    Fill!

Today Greg and I sewed up the two major remaining blank spaces on my arm, leaving two or three small patches that could comfortably contain some sort of fill. My homework assignment is to think about what I might want to put in there. We can always default to flowers and leaves -- I don't think I'll ever feel like I have too many flower tattoos -- but we both feel like there might be another option out there that's fun and slightly different. I just...have no idea what that might be. I haven't spent much time thinking about filler! Maybe bugs, or something...? The only thing we know for sure is that we don't want to introduce any colors beyond the ones already on my arm. He took some pictures of my arm today that don't suck (before he did the cobra on the upper back of my arm), and I am including the links here. Any suggestions? https://instagram.com/p/1gugZ7TBPK/ https://instagram.com/p/1guZOxTBO-/

  4. He was banned. Any time you get a spammy PM, report it by clicking the little exclamation point in the triangle below the PM. It will notify the moderators, and we'll ban the spammer. Thanks to those of you who did just that, and thanks to @Iwar for banning this dude immediately.

I was just going to post that if this was my sleeve I'd see about squeezing a little frog in there. @sophistre it's really been a pleasure seeing you go from a poster with no tattoos to having this completely gorgeous sleeve. I am glad you shared it with us.

  6. The OP was about asking in person. As in, how much to I talk about this ahead of time with my artist without sounding like a paranoid client with 9,000 questions and making the artist want to back out? I have an honest question about the money conversation I've had with all three of my artists, but I'll never ask it here because of this kind of response. The bottom line is that it is your body, and you're entitled to ask any questions you'd like to ask. If the artist thinks it is too much, well, find someone else. Customer service has to be part of the equation if you're going to art on human skin, and the health concerns are legitimate if things aren't being done correctly.

  7. You're good dude. I'm possibly in the wrong here. I just think it's weird to chat about here on teh internetz. Standard, across the board, if you have concerns about your safety, always ask the person you're getting tattooed by. Everything you want to know about tattooing can be found on the internet, so just don't be surprised if, when talking to people you don't know on the internet, and some of them may/may not be tattooers, they may not the most forthcoming. If you want the answer, you can find it. But I still enjoy a certain veil of secrecy around this business.

  9. Healing an entire back is no joke. Being itchy from your shoulders to your arse is likely to make anyone go crazy. My coworkers can see how uncomfortable I am, so they volunteer their nails and scratch my back without my consent, which causes me to run away yelling "fresh tattoo, fresh tattoo!" 10. But he is banned... Btw, I know this forum is pretty liberal and you've been here way longer than me, but the language is a bit much...especially the "g" word. Not anything I personally take offense to, it just looks like a middle schooler who hasn't learned how to curse properly, and you might offend others on this forum...

Change of plans on Sunday. Managed to get a morning appointment with Tim Pausinger at The Pearl Harbour Gift Shop. Suits better time wise than rolling the dice on getting a walk in at The Okey Doke (next time!). I can have breakfast with my family and meet LSTer @markbee in lieu of queuing. The staff at The Pearl really went out of their way to fit me in. I have been lucky like that recently too with Uncle Allan. Tattooing, as an industry/community, has some really nice people in it.

My second thought was also a frog or a toad. My first was a snail with big tits but that's just me. Can I just say @sophistre that your arm is just gorgeous. I am insanely jealous!

  18. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that a vaccine to prevent hepatitis C exists. In any case, I'm not sure what vaccinations a tattoo artist has or doesn't have is relevant to his or her health and hygiene practices when it comes to tattooing.

  19. Ham Jordan, Jimmy Carter's COS, was a director of the company that I worked for. We are a major player in cancer detection instruments, and Ham was a three-time cancer survivor (and ended up dying from mesothelioma). He spoke at a company function once, and noted (also in his book "No Such Thing as a Bad Day") that no one has more interest in your health than you.

  27. This is a cool thread. Lots of really good tattoos. My contribution is as follows... Cross with Koru designs by Tommy Downs at Roger's Tattoo Art in Wellington, NZ. That is surrounded by a half sleeve by Gerry Carnelly at Octopus Tattoo, Derby, UK. The second piece then is a dotwork Aum gap filler by Patrick Huttlinger going in the little gap left by a half sleeve by Ian Flower at New Skool Tattoos in Ewell village, Surrey, UK. I really like that the combination balances the two arms. When I had the gaps it felt totally unbalanced. I agree with the earlier comment though about not having to tattoo that part of my body again. The cross was my first ever tattoo and not the most pleasant introduction to say the least...

  31. Definitely not sure about pricing, but this looks impressive, what you need is to find a good artist for the details, that's it What I really love about phoenix is the symbolic meaning which in general is: creativity, inspiration, passion, energy. That's all you need to stay alive and enthusiastic about your design

  34. I posted a little sneak peak on Instagram (@suburbanxcore), but Grez and I finally got into some brighter colors on my fifth session this weekend. My dragon now has a bright red belly to really pop out from his green scale and the darker eagle. It's starting to really come together. Not in again until 5/16 for Ed Hardy day and a three hour session!

  38. Haha, I brought my artist a book of illustrations Ive loved for 30+ years and pointed out 3 ideas but left the entire design for my 3/4 sleeve up to him. I saw it for the first time yesterday. He damn near put the entire book in there. LOTS of line work, it's gonna be a real PITA for us both. But it's stunning and I'm already old so I'm not to concerned with its aging.

    Tattoo convention

I understand you not wanting to seem like a douche......but never forget that the tattoo artist is being paid to do a service for you and that really is the end of it! I think too many tattooers forget that this is a job and that if someone is going to enter a contest......especially if they the tattooer ask them too.....then maybe they should help to pay for that! The artist benefits......not the customer.....and I think it's sad that customers worry about offending the people they are paying good money to do a service! I mean....as long as you are tasteful in asking then there should be no reason someone should get pissy about it.....imo If you are stoked and want to enter contests on your own then I say go for it!!! There is nothing wrong with you wanting to show off your work and give your artist some publicity! it's just my 2 cents is all.....
