Flyrite is a block or so away from Saved in W'Burg. Both are excellent shops. There's also Three Kings, Daredevil, Fun City, Invisible, Smith Street, Greenpoint, Bound for Glory, North Star, too many to name really. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that NYC is one of the best cities in the world for tattoos at the moment. For watercolor tattoos I agree with @bongsau but if you want to spend way too much money on a tattoo that is going to fall apart really quickly, you have Amanda Wachob and Gene Coffey, and probably others who are also "good" but really you should read this thread before you think about something like that. Welcome!3 points

I have been tattooed by a lot of different people and so the only thing I'll say with any certainty about tattoos is that everybody works differently. I will also say that the only time I've seen a drawing in advance was with my backpiece, and I know that plenty of my tattoos were drawn the night before or the day of, some right there on the spot, because that's how those artists work. I have great tattoos. If he's going to draw for you on your appointment day, I am guessing that's how he normally structures his work flow and that all the tattoos you've seen by him that you've loved and made you want to get tattooed by this guy were done in the same way. As long as you trust the guy and you feel like you "clicked" I wouldn't worry about it at all.2 points

@SeeSea, I remember during one past session, the Shop mentioned that people were no longer allowed to go into the work space unless they were being tattooed. It was a City ordenance rather than a shop rule. That said they may be cool if your mom popped her head in for a couple minutes. As for me? Yeah Monmon cats or cat heads in the arm pits. Actually it's the only space left. My torso down to my thighs is reserved. That leaves only my hands, neck, arm pits, and my lower left leg open. I'm kind of keen on leaving my neck and hands un-tattooed, and for whatever oddness, kind of like wanting to leave my lower leg open too. Hmm, I suppose I could get the lower part of my front done "gobu" style where inner thighs are open. I could then get him to do my inner thighs perhaps. But hey, if Beaux Brady can get his arm pit done by Horitomo and survive, I can hope to do so too! Ha ha!2 points

I got one of the best tattoo experiences I've ever had from Chris. The awesome tattoo he put on me came almost as a secondary bonus to the whole experience, haha. Go for it @TrixieFaux! You won't regret it.1 point

@hogg I really love @Eilin's girl head with the black cats. For some reason I have never wanted a girl head... but I do find them beautiful. Hmmmmmmmm. I've been wrong before. We met Quan Nguyen at boxing last week, and this is what has put the idea of a CC tattoo back into the forefront of my mind. Quan is a great guy with some beautiful tattoos!1 point -

I want a tattoo from Chris but I don't know what to get... It's a strange problem. I guess I will figure it out. I'm not closed off to suggestions though... PANTHER SKULL DAGGER?! :D - - - Updated - - - ETA: I was just kidding with the panther skull dagger thing, but...come to think of it...a Chris Conn panther would be really amazing, maybe that is what I need.1 point -
@BrooklynDude spend some time looking at other styles of tattoos. When I first found LST I thought I would be relegated to some blackwork which I think can be awesome but got great advice and ended up lasering my back. Early on I thought all black and grey (which i still find very cool)but quickly saw that bold traditional or Japanese was great for longevity and really started appreciating it. Fast forward 4 1/2 yrs and I have all traditional style tattoos and I love em. I see tattoos everyday most just re affirm that I made good decisions thanks to the help here.1 point

Horitomo Tattoo Cat Prints
TrixieFaux reacted to Lance for a topic
After I got tattooed some of the white in my paired monon cat feet tattoos didn't heal up well, since instead of relaxing after the trip up (as intended), I came home to a car that broke down and required me to run around town to get it fixed. Fast forward to this past SFO convention, I ran into Horitomo, and he asked to check them out. After looking at them for a bit, he offered to touch them up for me. Very cool of him! I finally contacted the shop this past week and I'll be back up in August. And since I'm going up again, I scheduled a consult to get more monon cats! I must be the totally crazy cat person with no cats. I'm scared though. Arm pits. Aw f*ck me!!! @SeeSea, you are totally going to enjoy yourself when you go up. Horitomo's station is a raised platform in one of the corners at the shop and it's filled with his amazing sketches. A really cool experience. @peaceridge, I agree with the other posts. Keep trying and be patient. Sometimes timing is off but if you're persistent it will happen. It initially took me 2 or 3 months to get into contact with my regular artist just because at the time I tried to set something up there were a lot of conventions/guestings/trips going on with the artist.1 point -

Fat people with tattoos: Your thoughts
polliwog reacted to Margarita Yaschenko for a topic
Has a client overweight or not for me personally is not important. Tattoos certainly pushing to have a toned body. On some slender body and picture looks nice but only due to the appearance of the type of object on which a pattern. But as said above - a tattoo and of itself is a good decoration for any body. Often heard the opinion that it is necessary first to bring the body into a slender look and people with excess weight does not need to do a tattoo - I think this opinion is wrong and unfair. Fat people also want to wear on his body something beautiful. He also chooses beautiful clothes (Nobody would choose ugly clothes because he has overweight) and wants a beautiful tattoo. And that's fine and good :) Not everyone can be for various reasons slim and toned but that's no reason not to do a tattoo if a person wants to do it.1 point -

Do tattoos ever act as a barrier to medical care?
Boiled Dove reacted to SeeSea for a topic
Well, it was certainly uneventful. My tattoo possibly felt warm, but I had more tingling from having to lay in an uncomfortable position. Probably hallucinating it had anything to do with the tattoo. I told the tech at this place about being rejected from the other place and he said "They always do that. We welcome the biker's here." Haha, funny, jerk.1 point -

hardest artist to book
titforatat reacted to Killercook76 for a topic
Are you asking me how I got an appointment by him? Well I started out with an email like once a month then every three months or so. I think I also dropped another artist(S) names too. When I got tattooed by him he told me that he gets like 1000 emails a week by people asking for a tattoo. Plus he travels a lot for conventions and guest spots. He does all his appointments so if it were me I wouldn't be able to filter through all those emails without going crazy. I mean there is only a certain amount of time during the day and someone that busy isn't going to answer them all. He probably gets a lot of people wasting his time too. I wouldn't call it unorganized it's just how does someone pick and choose when they get so many emails?? He told me that persistence was one of the reasons why it worked out. Plus he loves to do traditional tattoos though he is known for realism. My tattoo was a traditional style cobra. Who wouldn't want to tattoo that? haha! My advice would be to polite but persistent. Be nice and say youre a serious tattoo collector. Just be advised you may have to travel to Costa Mesa California. He does travel and told me that he would hook me up if he ever came to NYC but.. I think you need to take the first step and travel before he gives you any special treatment. - - - Updated - - - honestly I think I just got extremely lucky!! On a side note he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your life. Super down to earth and cool!!1 point -
I'm really just posting this to get my post count up haha. Apologies. I know most of you are into traditional here, but this was the first proper back I've done and I was fairly happy with it.1 point
