Hi, posting at you from northern europe, Finland, to say i really like the site! I've found out about a lot of great artists and got good advice from here in my time lurking. I've been meaning to register for over a year since i found the site but i've put it off for not having any good recent photos of my tattoos, and i thought if i just register maybe i'll finally put the effort into taking some. I got my first tattoo 6 years ago at 18 and ever since i've been steadily adding to it a few pieces a year more or less. I decided very early on im going for full coverage but im saving the hand and neck tattoos for when im 30 if i still feel like it. Anyway, i managed to dig up some pictures, most are from artists instagrams i think. In no particular order: by Hexa, used to own Precious Tattoo, not sure where he works from now. Hexa Hexa Hexa Oni by Javier Betancourt at Ocho Placas I think i heard of him from here, theres so many crappy shops in Miami it was a chore to find something worthwhile but man am i glad i found him. Crow by Gustav Fröberg, also did my lower left arm which i dont have any pics of upper left arm is JPWikman no better pictures yet sorry Demon granny is by Hexa again In the last picture you can see a peek of the rooster on my ribs started by Jonas Nyberg and im gonna get that one finished up at the Helsinki Ink Convention next weekend! I'll try to get better pictures of all of it or at least the ones i dont have any of and post after i get back from the convention. Hopefully with a rad cock! :D4 points -
You don't have to have the artistic skill as the one receiving the tattoo, that's the amazing thing about tattoos! Have you shown this picture to the artist who you're interested in? I'm sure they can come up with some good ideas. You seem to have an eye for traditional, cltattooing gave a great list.4 points

GREAT list, thank you! I guess I really wanted some other tattoo folks opinions. Seeing it every day, it's nice to get some outside perspective. - - - Updated - - - Actually, I think I had a stroke of inspiration this morning. Being born and raised in backwoods Florida, hear me out: Traditional panther head, face on, but Florida Panther instead of the traditional black. @bongsau, :( sorry bud. My kids everyday ask me when is my next session for my back so they can help out... kind of funny... The oldest got paid when I was all healed and done... He woke up every day at 5AM with me to help me with my back. Many times I told him he didnt have too but he allways would reply: "Dad I want to see what this experience is like for you". So I figure I give him a bonus for all the help...2 points

Thanks! The Oni came out great and my only regret is that its not in a more visible spot. Took some photos today but they all came out a bit yellow. Ehh, best i could do. Top part JP Wikman, bottom Gustav Fröberg Hexa a yellow and badly focused pic of the Oni by Javier Betancourt its still much the same, the white highlights have faded to look more smooth but thats about it2 points -
Good job @tay943. Don't let those meat heads intimidate you. Nothing better than a confident woman grabbing heavier dumbells than some guys, ha. You guys have a pretty big bodybuilding scene in Australia so I can only imagine the competition in the free weight section. IMO the "free weight" section is the only section.2 points

Wow, the itching is intense on this one, I guess because I got such a big area covered all in one day. This is the first tattoo I have not been able to care for all by myself, and am pleasantly surprised at how much of a bonding experience it has been to have my husband help me.2 points

Fat people with tattoos: Your thoughts
polliwog reacted to Margarita Yaschenko for a topic
Has a client overweight or not for me personally is not important. Tattoos certainly pushing to have a toned body. On some slender body and picture looks nice but only due to the appearance of the type of object on which a pattern. But as said above - a tattoo and of itself is a good decoration for any body. Often heard the opinion that it is necessary first to bring the body into a slender look and people with excess weight does not need to do a tattoo - I think this opinion is wrong and unfair. Fat people also want to wear on his body something beautiful. He also chooses beautiful clothes (Nobody would choose ugly clothes because he has overweight) and wants a beautiful tattoo. And that's fine and good :) Not everyone can be for various reasons slim and toned but that's no reason not to do a tattoo if a person wants to do it.1 point -

I've been following this thread for a while but can finally post and say that I used actual real weights (not just weight machines) for the first time today! I've felt really intimidated of the free weights area before but plucked up the courage to try a new leg work out based on my google-research. My legs feel like jelly and I can't walk but I'm super pumped :). Used 10kilos for squats and five for lunges (as well as 35 kilos on the leg extension). Looking forward too seeing progress1 point

College course on history of tattooing
El Dolmago reacted to heathenist for a topic
I completely understand this perspective, but at the same time I have to disagree. While tattooers might have lots of experience and knowledge, they still aren't properly trained to do the type of research that academics do. Academics go through years of methodological training (via coursework as well as personal research experience) in order to be able to accurately analyze whatever subject they are studying. These forms of analysis can obviously vary from highly advanced statistics to more qualitative cultural analyses, but the point remains, it takes a lot of training to be able to do this stuff correctly. Sure, if you're just looking for basic history encyclopedia kinda stuff then that's one thing, but much further than that tattooers probably won't be of much use. That's like saying studies of the workplace are useless because you could just go talk to a worker. Workers (doesn't matter the profession) might have a pretty good understanding of the workplace, but that doesn't mean they can produce adequate research on that workplace. As someone who is working towards their PhD, I'm probably pretty biased though. As far as a college course goes, that's another story, college courses and academic research are two very different beasts and those who have argued that a lot of it would be dulled down rubbish are probably right. Basically, reading the academic research on tattooing is probably a lot more valuable than taking a college course on tattooing. As a sociologist I sometimes get the urge to study different facets of tattooing, but I think it's probably best to keep these worlds separate. But I'm pretty big on compartmentalization and keeping different parts of my life separate.1 point -

I've never been tattooed with a rotary, so I can't really compare the sensation between the two machines. All I know (or at least feel) is that the sound of a coiled machine is such an integral part to the tattoo experience. I can't imagine going into a tattoo without the artist setting up the machine, running it and adjusting the voltage before asking if I'm ready to start. I need to hear that sound!1 point
