Had my 2nd session with Thomas Hooper yesterday. Mostly dot shading and mostly sat okay for it. Much easier than the line work during our first session.6 points -
Did another six hours yesterday covering the waist to knees. I watched a couple of movies which helped keep my mind off everything, although I found the ass/legs to be way easier than the lower back. We've got 10 hours total so far, and the next appointment is only in a few weeks, woot!2 points

I know how you feel, and let me assure you, after the first one those feelings get SO much easier. But I think it's also good to not go into it being unsure. Kinda like taking really good acid. Shit can get real if you aren't 100% about it.2 points -
Tattooers on Edgeland podcast
DeathB4Decaf reacted to suburbanxcore for a topic
Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this is the right subforum or not, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Feel free to move it as you see fit. I don't know if anyone has heard of Edgeland podcast, but it's a weekly podcast that comes out every Friday. The host interviews someone who is currently/still straight edge in the first half hour, and then someone who has broken edge in the second half hour. It's obviously geared towards the hardcore/punk community, and it's most weeks the interviews are pretty good, regardless of your edge status. In addition to musicians, it's not uncommon for him to have tattooers on there. In the past he's had on Heather Bailey and Beau Brady (and maybe others I forget). This weeke's episode has DJ Rose in the edge section and Chad Koeplinger in the non-edge section. I haven't listened yet, but I thought it may be something people would be interested in. You can find it on iTunes or Stitcher (or whatever you use for podcasts probably), and also on twitter and Instagram (@edgelandpodcast).1 point -

I'm quoting you but addressing all. Yes, we do sarcasm here. But like any group of people in the real physical world, you can't go waving around sarcasm immediately without feeling folks out first, sniffing butts and being really obvious in the beginning that you are being sarcastic. Believe me, we LOVE sarcasm here, and foster conversations and people who enjoy the art. But just like in the real world, you can easily get rebuffed if you aren't being cognizant of basic social graces, which are so much harder to make obvious through a keyboard. And I suspect that's what you are feeling now. Don't turn around and call this group cliquey and passive aggressive as a result - read around, absorb who people are and when/why some conversations (and sarcasm) are had. Or, huff off and demand your account be deleted. Your choice of course. AND NOW BACK TO WHAT IS IMPORTANT. Awesome, @losParanoyas!1 point -
I just want to say thanks to all who have posted so far. People here are so very friendly and helpful!;)1 point

Welcome! You've found the right place if you want to learn about good tattoos, and I'd expecially recommend watching the artist interview videos because they'll give you an insight that you can't really find elsewhere on the Internet. Glad to have you aboard!1 point

@Iwar, yep. Are you? Although I've never actually been super into straight edge hardcore or overly outspoken with my views, straight edge has definitely been an important part of my life. My first tattoo was actually a straight edge tattoo at 21, and then I got a second when I was 30 (XXX) years old.1 point -
Interesting thread... My wife has a distinct dislike for tattoos (Very conservative person) but she deals with them because she meet me with them. Now 13yrs married and I still get them. Now getting older has not help me lol.... I am now diabetic and if I don't eat well after I get a tattoo I will hit the floor the next day or I go in a risk of going in to a coma while sleep... That gave my wife the power of arguing with me every time I get a tattoo or go in to a session.... She did saw me passed out the next day after a 8hr session... I didn't eat nothing and went to sleep.... Woke up went to the restroom and I hit the floor.... lol.... Scary but funny... At any rate I hate the fact that I am diabetic and my wife argues to me about it and tattoos... Funny shit is that I am a healthy person... She likes my tattoos and she does not give me a hard time with them unless she finds something wrong, and if she does she will voice it... At the end we are together for ever.... ;) She does bitch about it from time to time about the risk I am running but than she gets over it... She helps me allot when cleaning parts of my tattoo that I cant reach... She basically took care of me when my back piece was healing...1 point

So I feel like a fraud but... I cancelled my appointment. I ended up drowning in doubt. Doubts about style, design, my chosen artist. By the time I'd finished tying myself up in knots, I doubted whether I even wanted a tattoo at all. So not the best frame of mind in which to make a lifetime decision. I was pretty bummed out about it for a couple of days but I know I made the right decision and I'm gonna take some time to get my head straight before making another appointment. I think the best place to start doing that is right here. I'm gonna soak up some culture and wisdom. I'm also going to attend a couple of conventions in May.1 point -

I don't use any moisturizer on mine either ... mostly because I can't reach most of it! :D But dry skin gets itchy so I'm always rubbing it on my hands and arms. Vanity, too. No one likes a girl's hands to be all chapped and cracked. Although, perhaps I lied. My face moisturizer has UV protection in it - SPF 30. Helps with the sun exposure on my face, and I do take any left over and rub it over my shoulders for a little UV protection for parts of the tattoo that stick out of my shirt. So maybe that's a consideration - using moisturizer with UV protection to keep those colors bright.1 point

Fat people with tattoos: Your thoughts
Colored Guy reacted to OutOfIdeas for a topic
In my opinion, if an artist has an issue with your weight, they don't deserve your business or money anyway. If they went so far as to flinch, they probably deserve a smack upside the head before you exit the building. I have seen plenty of artists post back pieces done on larger folks; I really doubt it will be a problem. I think body shaming, on either end of the spectrum, is one of the most disgusting things that people can do. Our society is so obsessed with political correctness, I don't understand why so many people think it's acceptable.1 point -

Well this is my first time logging on in a while. I've been going through some emotional stuff and needed to take a good long break from tattooing to get things straight again. I have an appointment coming up this Friday to get back into the game with a bang...starting my "sleeve." This is my first above the knee tattoo, and my first traditional tattoo. It's scary, but weirdly liberating to start making progress on more visible stuff (forearms someday!). I'm getting an eagle and rose by Brian Via at Golden Ages. https://www.facebook.com/goldenagestattoo#!/media/set/?set=a.486756928091524.1073741827.486086374825246&type=31 point -

I had the seventh session on my back yesterday and we finally started in on the colour and crushed the tiger. There's still a bit of shading to do in the water, and we're still figuring out what to do with the snake with regard to scales or patterns, colours, etc., as well as what colours to do the maples, but I am super stoked on the progress we're making.1 point -

Just got home from a relaxing and respectful 3.5 hours on the Shaolin back w/ TheGangOfOne Finished all the black clouds on the mid-back, did some borders around the ribs on both sides and the R armpit (oof), hit a grapefruit sized chunk across the mid-spine and over the kidneys. The solid blackness of the background is really helping the monk pop forward. Also got the back of my knee filled (praise be to the Buddha, never again!) and shaded the waves and rocks on the back of thigh. We figure another 2 solid sits to get the waves and waterfall across the lower back and fill up the bum. Back on the table next week. So far 3 sessions, 12 hrs total. Today I hit 190hrs total over my 12 years in this silly tattoo thing...gotta keep going ;)1 point -
I'd rather have my ribs done than to revisit the fatty area on/around the hip bone/waist - ouch! No butt/lower back/knees/etc for me yet, but damn if I had to choose between ribs and that hip/butt area, I'd take the ribs every time.1 point

I really was thinking of it as an aesthetic question. Because I have a womanly figure, I know that boxy shirts are not flattering on me. I wear them when it isn't important, but if I wanted to 'put my best foot forward', I'd pick something more fitted. That's as much mechanical as psychological. Curved clothes suit my curved body better than straight ones.1 point -
