    Upcoming Tattoos

It's been a good amount of time since I've posted here. The only real interesting news in the tattoo world is that I have an appointment with Chad K @ Rock of Ages in April. Big ol' tiger on the knee. That should be a fun flight home.

I'm heading down to San Francisco on Friday for work to attend the Game Developers Conference next week. Obviously, since it's San Francisco and it's the best city ever, I'm extending my trip a bit on each end to hang. I'm getting tattooed by Freddy Corbin on Tuesday evening, and it's looking like Tim Lehi may be able to squeeze me in this Sunday if all goes well (fingers crossed)! I'm sure it will be a cool time.

I think Iain Mullen does some of the best devils around. Straight up gnarly and evil looking. I've got a Judas wearing a hanyaesque devils mask on the side of my leg, by Iain. Tattoo was done in two hours, boom!

I'd advise you to hold off on hand tattoos for now. Start on your sleeve; maybe your tattooer could even incorporate your hand in a way as awesome as this Seth Wood piece. Personally, I think hand tattoos with no sleeve just kind of look like a hand stamp you get at a club, or something. Unless we're talking mehndi-like design, then it's whole other thing.

Welcome! I'm going to suggest that you get your arms done before you even think about hands and fingers because there are few things in life more ridiculous than people with hand tattoos and nothing on their arms.

  22. I echo that sentiment! If someone posts a picture of tattoo on LST that you don't like, please don't shit all over it. Even if someone ask for critique, try to be gentle with your feedback, and educate rather than simply state how shitty you think it is.

  23. I submit for your consideration my coverup. This was just done, so there was a little swelling and bleeding on the bullets. Unfortunately Im at da3 3 of healing, so no proper pics for another 4 or 5 days. While not you typical tattoo, please consider that fact that this is a coverup and I wanted a tattoo as comic like as possible in style. This is a reverse image of Captain America Volume 7 #15 from March of last year. This is a large piece that takes up my whole left upper arm

  24. I once started a fire that way. But yes, from a pot, dumped into a paper grocery bag, and smothered liberally with melted butter. Eaten preferably at the drive-in with the tinny static speaker hanging in the car door window.

@polliwog Smack-you-in-the-face amazing, indeed. That is undoubtedly quite a striking tattoo. I'm also in the search of a potent back piece, so I know what you mean. Your bit about looking at Kali only through a feminist lens is so spot-on. I think it's very tempting, as Western women whose cultural female iconographies are dominated by the demure Christian variety, to cling to Kali as purely a symbol of female force. It's empowering, and I can see how folks are drawn to that. Tattoos are entirely personal, though, and I think people should be free to do as they will. I hope this discussion doesn't come across as a condemnation of some kind. So what about those devil tattoos, huh?

  32. This is definitely a topic for the thread "what plainskins say". I have tons of stories about my sleeve tattoo. It's a koi and goldfish mix. I've had people ask me how many ponds I have, if I have a japanese background ( I'm a redhead with a full red beard, looking real japanese) and even some ask if I own a fish store. No but I do own 4 fish tanks at home I guess.

    The ladies thread

@graybones --Reading your post made me smile. This may sound kind of dopey, but I get a nice warm, happy feeling when I find out that someone I have had an ongoing interaction with (like you with your gyno, or like a colleague) has a tattoo. It's only happened with me a couple of times, but when it does, it's a great feeling. I found out our accountant who has done our taxes for years has a half sleeve, and when I first saw it peeking out (she clearly dressed to keep it covered) I got really excited! I didn't want to be that person and make a stupid comment, or violate her privacy. But I really wanted to connect. So I nervously said something like "So...I think we have something in common - tattoos." She was sort of shocked, but immediately dropped her professional guard and we had about a half-hour chat about tattoos and living with them in a professional world. It was sort of like a mutual "ah...someone who understands!" Funny thing is that I always thought she was a cool lady - very competent and professional, but with sort of a carefree streak that I admired.

Erryone talking about not being able to rock a proper devil/demon tattoo is missing out. Alls you gotta do is fork over your everlasting-soul to the dark lord! Simple! On a serious note, I find this really interesting. I'd say some of the depictions of Kali I've seen are waaay heavier than most devils tats (as only one example) but there's far less response of "I couldn't wear that". What is it about the great satan hisself that conjures such hesitation? - - - Updated - - - And also, Herb Auerbach rules for devils: https://instagram.com/p/veW3SZvJbe/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/y5UEJAvJRb/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/wZh-EGvJZn/?modal=true

Whenever I think of devil/demon tattoos, the first person that comes to mind is Derek Noble. Don't think it gets much better when it comes to the demonic stuff. And like a couple people have already said, as badass as they look, I don't think I could properly rock something like that. But they do make for some badass tattoos.

  41. @Tuchaka I wouldn't hesitate talk to call up your tattoo artist before your appointment and see what s/he thinks about both the prescribed product and the condition itself. EDIT: Just read your first post again and saw you already did that. D'oh! Also for anyone who has had a reaction to a certain color before, bring it up to your future tattoo artists as well. I have 3 tattoos with red in them but I've only had a reaction with the first one, different ink will have different ingredients and your tattoo artist can work with you to avoid the issue in the future.

Welcome Chadrick, This is a pretty good tattoo site for information and discussion. I've been on a few others and this one gets more activity than most, so more enthusiasts will see your topics, which is good. What do you have planned for your upcoming tattoo? 47. Yep, @Graeme is right. Who gives a shit what people think. The majority of people have no ability to discern elements of a tattoo design once it is applied to the skin, let alone a japanese piece. I had someone ask me if I had a dinosaur on my forearm a few weeks ago. DOES THAT LOOK LIKE A FUCKIN' DINOSAUR TO YOU?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!! People are dumb, just ignore them.
