  1. Ah, there it is...the opinion that validates yours. If you don't like it (and it seems like its pretty clear WHAT you don't like about it) why ask around about opinions? I don't mean this to be harsh, but maybe this style of tattoo isn't for you? It's been my experience with larger work that there will be differences between the original drawing and the final tattoo application. They are, after all, two very different things. If you go in being dead-set on every detail and line I think it's a pretty sure bet your expectations will be different than the outcome. I think the impact and overall effect are much more important, but that's me. Not to say you shouldn't feel like you can (and should) get what you want, but with something that large and involved it's unlikely that any drawing will be a perfect transfer into the tattoo. As mentioned above, extend it up! With more coverage, the over-all impact will become the focal point, not some minuscule details that only you (the wearer) will notice because you have the opportunity to obsess about it. 4. you got an octopus tattoo in a japanese style, a really nice one at that. now, you're talking about lasering a small section off and/or getting some other tattoo artist to fix it ? good luck with that bud :/ let it heal and settle in (mentally and physically). it's a nice tattoo, you are indeed overthinking it.

  5. I think it would work if it was all black, illustrative style tattoo. However I wouldn't be confident the shape of the skull will hold over time, as your body changes, as you age, as you move with the tattoo on you, since the design is fairly static. A skilled tattooer could make it work though. An alternate perspective: If you want to get a skull, get a skull. If you want to get flowers, get flowers. Too often we try to get too 'clever' with a design and it ends up being hard to read, complicated, and (especially) dated. Simplicity is what stands out and stands the test of time. My $0.02

    DEVILS

Erryone talking about not being able to rock a proper devil/demon tattoo is missing out. Alls you gotta do is fork over your everlasting-soul to the dark lord! Simple! On a serious note, I find this really interesting. I'd say some of the depictions of Kali I've seen are waaay heavier than most devils tats (as only one example) but there's far less response of "I couldn't wear that". What is it about the great satan hisself that conjures such hesitation? - - - Updated - - - And also, Herb Auerbach rules for devils: https://instagram.com/p/veW3SZvJbe/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/y5UEJAvJRb/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/wZh-EGvJZn/?modal=true

Whenever I think of devil/demon tattoos, the first person that comes to mind is Derek Noble. Don't think it gets much better when it comes to the demonic stuff. And like a couple people have already said, as badass as they look, I don't think I could properly rock something like that. But they do make for some badass tattoos.

  11. It's really hard to take a picture of your own legs (especially when you're apparently too stupid to remember to set the camera on a timer). A year ago I had no leg tattoos and no plans to get any, so it feels like they're filling up fast - though of course I have tons of room left.

Mine is @graybones, nothing too exciting but follow if you want! I recently started following @yellowbeakpress, they post a lot of interesting vintage or vintage-style tattoo photos and flash. Completely unrelated to tattoos, but my all-time favorite IG account is @usinterior. It's the US Department of the Interior's official account and they regularly post gorgeous photos of US national parks. If you like nature stuff and aren't following them you're messing up!!

  23. I'm a CLevel/Director type in IT. With the exception of my wrist tattoo, the fools have no clue. I use the one on my wrist as a "tell" in meetings. Their reactions tell me more about them than it ever says about me. I know damn near exactly how to negotiate based on their reaction. <evil grin>

  26. Here is a quick pick of the back of my knees...thank god, never again. Hey unless I can get my hands on that removal cream, then let's party all over again... TheGangOfOne rolled in the blackness on the left 5 days ago, it is just continuation of my backpiece. So my whole L backthigh (and buttocks) is all black water waves and rocks. The R side was put in back in 2011 by OllieXXX, the green water connects a sperm whale on the thigh to an octopus on the leg. That lizard on the side needs a touch up yikes That red-yellow rising sun was my bright (?) idea to fill in my lower leg. It kind of looks silly but folks always seem to point it out, and the red and yellow have held really well for 10 years so whatever. I'm almost tempted to black over and continue the black/grey water waves down. The scrappy looking black tattoos on my calves are a palm tree (Island Records) and a Bad Brains bolt that I got in 2003 from this skinhead pal. THe plan all along has been to keep them open and completely fill around. - - - Updated - - - Knee tattoos are painful to get, but manageable if you have a tattooer who can work quickly and efficiently, as the knee will balloon up and once that happens the pain will intensify. The healing I find more difficult and painful than the tattoo, either when moving or at rest. Especially that friggin lizard, he took longer to heal than anything else. Hard to bend the leg when the skin is raw and tight afterwards for a few days so you will have the zombie limp. Don't let that deter you! I went jumping and kung fu kicking 2 days after a knee session, that was dumb but my leg still works and the tattoo is still there. You won't die haha. Within a couple days that swelling and bruising go away, you regain some mobility and it's business as usual, just with more colour to accentuate yourself :) the mortality rate is very low! good luck, you can do it! Also, be aware that knees take a lot of abuse over the years. I've banged up my knee a couple times since I got one tattooed. Took a big chunk out the centre and one off the side. So you have to be prepared for that happen. Just part of living life. - - - Updated - - - i found this pic of my "squid pants" from a few years ago on my computer last nite, enjoy...a colourful dude and his ugly dog. Turtle is 10 years old, from Miles Kanne. Hard to believe the blue is still blue. They do look better as they age :)

  30. @DeathB4Decaf I once ran into a girl in the restroom at my school who had a full sleeve by Myke Chambers. I could barely contain my excitement to come across someone I could talk tattoos with, however briefly. Never saw her again, haha. But go for it, dude! I think we all wish we had a tattoo buddy at work.

  32. This time last year I was enthralled by True Detective, but the second season doesn't start until this summer, so that's shit. Hard to imagine the second season living up to that mind blowing first, but I'm definitely excited for it. Game of Thrones will be starting up soon, so there's that. I watch the Walking Dead too. And with football season over, it's mostly hockey, and lacrosse in the rare instances it's broadcast.

  34. Forgive the lengthy post, but I went through the whole thread and wanted to add a few things to the conversation: That is an excellent type. This! Women have to contend with so much douchery while dating, anything that reduces it is great. The problem I consistently run into is that men are “intimidated” by me (I’ve been told this over and over for years, by girlfriends and guys alike). I wear too much black, I look too stern, tattoos make me unapproachable, my job is off-putting — my opinion is that if a man (or woman) is so insecure and frightened by my outward appearance, I want nothing to do with them. I’ve only had one serious, long-term relationship (6 years) which sunk for reasons far more serious than my tattoos. But, as I started getting work done towards the end of it, he very clearly expressed his dislike. I’ve had other flings with plainskin guys, but they didn’t seem to feel strongly either way about it. I have quite a bit more work now and I plan to become heavily tattooed, and I can’t see myself with someone who doesn’t support it. I think it would be cool to share ideas and discover artists, and have someone who gets exactly what it means when I say “don’t touch it, it’s fresh”, haha. With that said, I wouldn’t want to get tattooed together. Getting tattooed is something I very much enjoy doing solo and I’d like to keep it that way, whether my SO is tattooed or not. Girl, I feel you. Putting your phone in front of someone’s face and going “isn’t this the most amazing tattoo you’ve ever SEEN!?!?” to hear a nonchalant “it’s okay” just crushes your enthusiasm. At first, I got side-eyed by friends and guilt-tripped by my mom all the time (she was a single mom; as a rule, how I spend my money gravely concerns). And yeah, when you add up all those hours of tattooing together, it looks like a lot, but it’s spread out over a long time, with carefully chosen artists whose work I love and find extremely beautiful. People outside of tattooing only see the number, they don’t understand the attachment you have to your own work. That shit is priceless.

    The ladies thread

Nope, but I am of the mechanical flavor. Things mostly changed for the better....lots of the factory floor folks saw me as much more approachable and I made a lot of new friends. To be honest it was nerve wracking to deal with management that day....though no one said anything. I'm in my 40s with 25 years experience in my field, so I dare them to say anything! 41. I have both the Saul's on the DVR. Hope to talk my wife into them soon. She had to watch the episode of The Flash that we were behind last night and our daughter has us on a Friends marathon on Netflix. I have started watching this show called Black Mirror on Netflix. It is a British science fiction show, 3 ep per season, and it is possibly the best science fiction I have ever seen on television. It is not happy 'save the space princess' stuff. More along the lines of the darkest stuff Bradbury or Asimov could have come up with. Fist one is very, very dark and I have not come away from any of them feeling particularly good. That being said they are fantastic. If you don't shy away from the darker side of our existence then I would highly recommend this show.
