I had the seventh session on my back yesterday and we finally started in on the colour and crushed the tiger. There's still a bit of shading to do in the water, and we're still figuring out what to do with the snake with regard to scales or patterns, colours, etc., as well as what colours to do the maples, but I am super stoked on the progress we're making.4 points -

Couple hours in today, more and more black! Steve worked on the waterfall and waves off the bum and down the side. most of my previous tattoos are now bordered in which was a really cool thing to watch (sore neck haha). Especially with this cool Escher dragon Steve had put on my ribs 10 years ago. It had a intense start, straight over the kidneys. yikes. mental session if you know what i mean. half a cheek and down the back thigh. you cats weren't joking. but made some really visible progress and the piece is really coming together and at a good pace. I'm going to wait two or three weeks to finish the lower waves and rocks, hope to have the background all in before heading on a vacation. Then all the colour in May. I'll post some shots after the redness and yellowing mellow out. Really feeling the fit of my tattoo suit. :)2 points

Sorry to see you didn't go home with anything, @SeeSea, except this awesomely ironic picture of us being photobombed by Brian O'Halloran from Clerks while wearing a shirt that says "Polite as Fuck." It was cool catching up with you again @Bunny Switchblade, and meeting you @daveborjes.2 points

Cross posting from the back piece thread, this is after session 2 with Marius Meyer yesterday. Yesterdays session was all the scales, all the shading in the skull and all the yellow. Looking to get the next session booked in for around the beginning of April, hopefully.2 points -

Tommy Montoya was doing something similar. His instagram is private now but before he marked it private he was tattoo hair on guys that had receding hair lines. Looked like these dudes got a buzz cut and had a little hair growing back. Pretty dope idea and looked good from the pics.1 point -

I shall treasure the picture! It was great to meet you @Cork and Mrs. Cork and Baby Cork! And @Bunny Switchblade and @daveborjes and @Mike Panic. It was as we said a couple weeks back - an experience to try, and I'm glad I did it. And it was a lot more boring than I thought it would be. The audience seemed to just be everyone standing around waiting for their classes to be called, and it was impossible to see much of the work as it was being judged.1 point -

Shoveled the walk and 20 percent of the driveway, gave in to my sciatica and went inside to drink. The novelty of this has worn off.1 point -
@Cork took 3rd and treated the audience to a quick burlesque after he dropped his drawers for the judge. I think that cost me the win. :). It was a field of almost 30 and some really nice work. Congrats to @Cork!1 point

So it's been a couple of months since I last updated the progress on my back. The shading sessions are just so much nicer for me than the outline. I think I May have even fallen asleep at points during the session in January. There was no chance of that this week though as the studio was pretty cold despite the heater just next to the bench. I ended up putting half my jacket back on the side that wasn't getting tattooed. Anyway enough rambling this is how it is looking now: p.s. @SeeSea your back piece has come out great. Congratulations.1 point -

Our bad tattoos
chrisnoluck reacted to irezumi for a topic
Oh I've got a few, some laughable some not, but I'm definitely not ashamed of this one First tattoo I ever did, at Tux's studio in '99. I was so nervous telling him & his wife the night before; I asked them to meet me for coffee and got it off my chest that I was ready to do this. He tried to talk me out of it by mentioning no heath benefits, no retirement pay, high-risk occupation, "why don't you be a vet or something, much easier. That's what Alex Herman did after quitting the biz". I could not be swayed. So he said"OK, show up at the shop tmrw and you can tattoo yourself". That really surprised me, I was not expecting that. I was prepared for "what the fuck, you shouldn't be doing this get the hell outta my sight". He had a legit rep for being rather brash and didn't pull punches. Chased a few people out of the shop looking for apprenticeships. When I got there I realized I had no idea what to put on myself. That part had not even crossed my mind, just "Holy shit Tux is gonna let me tattoo myself". So I said, "what should I pick?" He handed me this one and said "That's the first one I did on myself" which may or may not be true (once upon a long time ago he did the borneo scorpion on Higgs and told him he drew it himself hahaha what a classic fibber) but I didn't ask twice. He set up 2 Percy Waters, loud as hell, told me they were worth more than my life, showed me some basic info and turned me loose. That was one of the most exciting moments ever up to that point in my tattoo experiences. Best design ever? no. Best job ever? No. Some good blowouts? Yup. Something I'm proud of? Most definitely.1 point -
