As promised I have now managed to get some pictures of my fully outlined back. I never imagined it would be so many lines when I started but after 5 sessions and 15 hours in total we have completed the first stage. Very happy with it and can't find enough mirrors to look at all the detail.

I was hoping we could hold a thorough review of her academic credentials before giving her mod power, but what the hell. Welcome aboard, @Pugilist!

  6. Colour! Pic pinched from Clare's instagram as I am sore, having a beer and don't have anyone at home to help me take pics yet. Have another appointment in two weeks to add on. We are doing a peony on inner bicep (couldn't resist with all the peony envy going on right now) which will wrap around and fix up the gap in her arm, mallard duck and fox with fruithat. Unsure if we will add on piece by piece or use the next session to get everything else lined.

  7. It doesn't matter how he meant it - it's a shitty, patronizing, objectifying thing to say and has no place on a board where people are meant to behave respectfully towards each other.

  8. Thanks to @Mush @marley mission @9Years @DeathB4Decaf and @Cork as I say I a really happy with all the line work. Definitely worth going through 15hours to get it looking like this, but the word bananas does some it up pretty nicely. 6th December will bring the first session on the shading. I can't wait to see it keep developing now. It feels like it is now really gonna start coming to life a little bit at a time.

Post anything you'd like. We have no problem with you or your non-tattoo photos. As for that other poster, let's just say that sometimes, a hatchet gets the hammer.

Hey dudes, maybe listen to women when they say they find something insulting, instead of telling them how they should take it. It's an infantilizing, objectifying and therefore misogynist thing to say, even if you "mean it" as a compliment. And I agree with @SnowyPlover, it's a nice reminder of why being a woman into tattoos can kind of suck.

    The ED HARDY Thread

I don't think we have a thread dedicated to Ed Hardy, so let's use this one to share anything Ed related. If anyone deserves their own thread on here it's gotta be him, right? I spent my evening rewatching some old Hardy interviews, and I even found a couple new ones (to me at least). Here's a few of them. Joel Selvin chats with Ed Hardy about his life in tattoos at Book Soup in Hollywood Interview in conjunction with "the unruly art of Don Ed Hardy" exhibit that was displayed last year Part 1 Part 2 - - - Updated - - - I have more, but there's a 3 videos per post limit, so I'll have to wait untill someone else posts something in here.

  19. @TrixieFaux - the first time I did a boxing training session, I could not lift my arms above my head for about a week. It is BRUTAL!!! I am glad you enjoyed it. :)

  20. I've never had an interest in boxing, but the mom of one of my kindergartners told me I should take a class at her and her husband's boxing gym. I laughed at first but then I thought, what the hell?! I got my other kindergarten teacher friend to join me for a class today. Holy crap it was grueling, and so much fun! I want to go back!!! Every time the instructor (my student's dad) would bark out orders, my friend would go "This is BULLSHIT!" and we'd crack up. Hopefully we didn't laugh too much for the more serious fighters in the class. Seemed like the music was up loud enough that it didn't matter. Great time. After the workout I asked the mom if this was payback for not giving her son enough stickers. Of course they did not even react in the slightest to my tattoos, not even the little kid! I knew they'd be cool like that. I have a feeling I am going to be wicked sore tomorrow and possibly Monday.

    Use of Painkillers

When it comes to pain and tolerance I think it's important for you to find your sweet spot. The longest I've ever been tattooed was roughly 5.5 hours and I realized right afterwards that I never wanted to go through that again. It wasn't bad but unless your getting tattooed by an artist that isn't local or traveling great distances there is no need for it. For me I've learned that 3-4 hour sessions are the sweet spot depending on location of the piece. It isn't too short and it isn't too long.

UPDATE: Two days of brutality on my back with Henning. This go around we started coloring in the phoenix at Kings Avenue Tattoo. 7 hours on Friday in Long Island, then 6 more hours on Saturday in Manhattan. Henning thinks we need one more full session to complete everything. I think probably 2 more including any touch ups. By the way...I really really hate ribs...and spine....THE WORST. Enjoy the pics.

  41. This is a little more technical in nature, but I think it's kinda cool to share. My mentor(s) have really had me focusing on the craft of tattooing lately. Making needles. Making pigment. Tuning and rebuilding machines. It's something that we take for granted with the ease of pre-made and disposables. But it feels good to know that I'm gaining the skills the old timers relied upon.
