UPDATE: Two days of brutality on my back with Henning. This go around we started coloring in the phoenix at Kings Avenue Tattoo. 7 hours on Friday in Long Island, then 6 more hours on Saturday in Manhattan. Henning thinks we need one more full session to complete everything. I think probably 2 more including any touch ups. By the way...I really really hate ribs...and spine....THE WORST. Enjoy the pics.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

got this one Halloween. A reward for losing 40 pounds. Kind of a spur of the moment thing. I had a couple ideas and really wanted to get one, but couldn't decide on one of the ideas I had, walked around for a couple hours while searching the internet for ideas and other designs, finally picked this one and walked in before I could change my mind. really happy with it. the first one that my mother actually liked, kinda, she still hates tattoos.

  10. little some some on my chest edit: fyi this tattoo gives nod to my mrs. - we honeymooned in stlucia back in '96 - in the tattoo we have the stlucian pitons, their national bird and 3 tiny birds (the children) - but i love the piece as a whole as it represents what i envision as a location of paradise (i'm sure some would agree to holding such imagery as well - anyway...)

    Upcoming Tattoos

Had a planning session this morning, & the usual cold cider stubbies while mapping out the right foot we'll start drilling into in 4 weeks. An idea I've had for some time and some inspiration from a certain design by @daveborjes [emoji106] Thanks man, it's gonna fill the foot nicely. It's funny, doesn't matter how many tough sessions you sit through, that nervousness about embarking on new territory is always there. Love that shit.

A little off on the dates and body parts. Finished my thigh with Henning on Wednesday and started my ribs/chest with him on Thursday. Also had a quick consult with Mike about my back piece but we don't break skin on that project until February so bottle up your excitement until then.

  13. I've been crazy busy this fall with the start of the school year, coaching xc, running my ass off, and getting ready for a baby in the spring. So, my internet and tattoo game has been nonexistent. However, I'm glad to see everyone still killing it. I get back in the game in Jan. Until then, keep it up, folks!

  17. So I am one of those weirdos who did their back first, and Stephanie always said to me that the great thing about starting there is that most other things will seem like child's play in comparison. Starting in my arms has been a treat!!

  20. growing up they always said I could have as many I wanted as long as I wasn't living in there house. when I graduated they moved to Minnesota and I stayed behind in NY. I didn't tell them when I got my first one, a Motorhead Snaggletooth on my left bicep, saved it as a surprise for when I flew out to see them. They just laughed and my mom called me a fool, but I listened to there rules so it was okay. My dad doesn't care much, as long as no face tattoos or those Nazi skinhead prison types. My mom still laughs and calls me a fool but then asks to see what I got. She actually liked my last one so there's some improvement.

  41. The length of your session depends on several factors. Others around here can add more. - The size of the tattoo. If it's small, couple hours, it's easy to sit through in one session. If you don't, you will be mocked and ridiculed. Maybe even to your face. If it's larger and your tattooer has the expectation you'll sit for the whole thing in one sitting, you do it or try your damnedest. - Your tattoo artist's scheduling methods. Some only schedule in well defined time slices, for example, 3 hours. If the tattoo takes longer than that, you sit multiple sessions. If your tattoo artist schedules open-ended sessions, then you'll go until he finishes whatever goal he set for the session. This could be time or a particular part of the tattoo. Or, he'll keep going until you absolutely can't take another second and you have to tap out. No one likes to tap out. It's a sign of moral weakness, contributes to global warming, and will cast poorly upon your family and children. Even after many hours, it's so psychologically awesome to hear, "Ok, we've reached a good stopping point" instead of crying silently into your hand and whimpering that you're sorry you just can't take it any more. The silence that follows such an abject admission is enough to curdle milk and paralyze small dogs. - The body part. Personally, I can't speak to many body parts because I'm only working on a back piece, but yes, location can play a role. (Although your back, in terms of pain, is it's own set of differing body parts.) My one and only tap out was after 5 hours on the top/middle of my back that included spine down to the bottom of my ribs and the bones of one shoulder blade. Apparently, many think the shoulder blade isn't bad. My next session is to do the second coat in that area. I'm queasy just thinking about it. - Your own preparation. How you prepare for your session has a big effect - some may argue that good preparation plays as big a role as where on the body you plan to get tattooed. If you go in tired, hung over, or on an empty stomach, body part may matter very little.

  42. An open letter to my puppy: I know the lotion smells weird and not like me. But please kindly refrain from attempting to lick it off the tattoo. I am SURE that dog spit is not part of the recommended aftercare routine for tattoo healing. Love, Your Person.

This is true. My mate, it's now been 6 years. We have become such close friends that we have acknowledged it will never end. I only have a little fill to complete back of neck (this w end), some colour fill on the butt cheek & upper thigh. Now only the feet to design and fill. Our regular visits will continue, our Sunday morning cider and beer tasting sessions, the presence of like minded people going through the same experience of suiting out...and by going on your advice @SeeSea, we can still enjoy doing some relining, punching some more black over black for good times. For me, it's not the end, just a new chapter in a lifelong friendship.
