  8. Thanks Guys, I'm honoured to have become one of the Tattoo of the Month winners :) Even though there wasn't much competition this month (in number of people, not in quality ofcourse ;) ), it still feels awesome to have won

  10. Carried on to Italy from florian Karg to Silvano Fiato today :) What a true gentlemen and artist! Just came out from his studio. I only went to join the face to my knee but he insisted on working on me for 5 - 6 hours for free including the knee joining. He always thought the first piece I had done by him was very plain and didn't push his skill level and wanted to at least do as much with her as he possibly can. So he reworked her face some, blended it into the new piece, ready for the final piece at the back next year. Personally i liked the previous one but now that he has added more shading and depth I much prefer the new piece. Once the swelling goes down and redness it should look awesome. He went over the house in places to make it darker but he couldn't continue or put any white in her eyes, lips or house as my skin is too raw. He will see it all healed next year and add more to it. To be honest I have had enough of being tattooed, feel really drained and tired. I am going to make my new appointments for late next year and take a year out, I think my body needs it :) He didn't touch the train as he said when this settles and heals it will be the right shade. Personally I love the depth he has given her.

    Tattoos and the workplace

My current job doesn't have me working with or interacting directly with customers, but I am around them and I've found that I get approached by far more customers when I have my arms covered. Guess that means the tattoos are working like they're supposed to.

  12. Florian is really fast, well fastest artist I've had work on me. My idea of course didn't work lol not enough room so we had a compromise. He has never**done a spider before, so I broke his virginity. 5 hours for this but this place is so painful and sensitive. Shit pics, red raw and swollen. I personally love what he has done. The space was a lot smaller than we thought :) Tomorrow off to Silvano again!

  13. Had such a great time at the London Convention on Saturday, didn't get a chance to see much of it but I ended up getting tattooed by Greg Christian on top of my appointments with Bert Krak and Eli Quinters. The frog and fly are from Eli and the eagle and snake from Greg (picture from his instagram). I dont have a picture of the Ed Hardy Butterfly I got from Bert but i'll post one when I do.

  14. @Wilhell, @Ninab, their 3 year old son Levi and myself will be visiting SF from October 15th till 22nd, and we'd love to hook up with some fellow LSTers while we're there! Don't hesitate to holler if you'd like to meet up with us :) I was also wondering if anyone knew what the best mode of transportation to and from San Jose is. I'm booked with Horitomo on Saturday (the 18th), and I have to get from SF to SJ and back. I'm considering renting a car, but from what I can tell most car rentals are closed on weekends, so I'd have to rent friday through monday if I go that route. Any tips on exhibitions, museums, bars (don't worry, Levi's not tagging along for that one) etc are also more than welcome. If anyone's wondering, Wilhelm is getting tattooed by O'Donnell and Hoyer in NY the week before, then Rassier and Lehi in SF. Nina is booked with Scott Sylvia, and I'm in with Grime and Horitomo. If we're lucky there might be one or two walkins along the way too :)

  16. Thankyou, I asked specifically for the eyes to be like that, I love odd-eyed cats! The split tail comes from Japanese folklore, I've always loved the Nekomata especially, they supposedly are cats that were treated badly in life, and in death gain the powers of necromancy, murder and arson for their malevolent revenge. Bad kitties.

  25. Thank you, @ironchef--I thought of your peonies thread when I was going through my pics from yesterday :) I can't wait to see how the color heals up--there's some white in the petals that's starting to show as the redness underneath fades.

    The ladies thread

Tattooers tattoo over all sorts of scars, stretch marks, etc. Don't feel embarrassed or worried! This is the job, what makes it challenging and interesting. They have seen it all! I felt self-conscious when I started going onto my thighs because I have lots of cellulite. I wasn't sure how designs would turn out. The answer is obvious: my thighs are ten times cooler now. :)

  28. Thanks for the tip @Pleadco! I'll look into that. Oh, and I wouldn't trade it for the world, haha! Been looking forward to this for almost a year now. Are you planning on going to the convention while you're already in the neighborhood? - - - Updated - - - Bummer! I would have loved to meet up and check out your amazing tattoos in person. I'm sure we'll get another opportunity sometime in the future though :) Thanks for the car rental tips by the way! I'm joining the monmon club.

  30. @MrToby Yes, that was me with the kindle. I think I saw that white rabbit on Instagram? Nice. Although it was hot in the dock I almost think that was better than it being chilly if you were getting tattooed, but I guess it's a fine line.

  33. I went up a few days early to get tattooed by Bert Krak at Frith Street the 'MUM' rose, attached. And went to the 'Miniature Ink' exhibition at Atomica Gallery that evening, where I bought the small works on sale by Curly and Alex Binnie. The day after I went to the 'Time' exhibition at Somerset House, I definitely recommend it. The first day of the convention I didn't do too much, went to meet Ed Hardy first thing pretty much. I bought the 'Nurse Mercy' lithograph, and he signed my copy of Tattooing the Invisible Man, relatedly - I was walking around later, and to my surprise - I saw Bill Salmon, so I also asked Bill to sign it. Second day - got a sacred heart from Freddy Corbin, whilst my friend next to me had a very long sitting (6 hours?) with Mike the Athens. Today I only went to pick up the lithograph and went home! I saw a few LST'ers, but didn't want to bother anyone.

  34. Yeah, this is my 5th(ish) tattoo, and I've healed it differently than all the others. Aquaphor for the first couple days, then nothing for a couple days, then a light layer of lotion for a few days, and on and off whenever it looks/feels like it needs it. I have to say, other than the swelling, it has been the nicest healing process by far. It barely itches!

  36. I will capitalize on this thread to ask a question: If you had to recommend a couple of books that are a good place to start for someone interested in learning more about the history, culture, and development of tattoos and the art of tattooing generally, what might you recommend?

  37. That Cripwell suit is beautiful and so perfectly executed, but I find it a little too perfect for my tastes. Looking at those tattoos, I don't know if I get much of a sense of the person who has them. I guess aesthetically I prefer a more organic mish mash of tattoos where you get tattoos of different ages complimenting and clashing with each other and you get a whole that transcends any individual tattoo.

    The Tattoo News

This isn't exactly "news" as these have been out for a while, but Scott Harrison recently put out the second issue of his Weltworld comic. It's dark, perverse, grotesque, and just plain weird, and I mean that in the best possible sense. You can buy them here: The Artwork and Comics of Scott Harrison

Background complete. Did arm pit, lower back, butt, and touch ups on random spots. I prefer working one area after this session lol. Next session is stripes then color starts. It's so far from done but I couldn't be happier with the way it's coming out.
