    Russian Tattoo Book

Hi guys! There is a quirky little antique book store near me that is open like twice every 5 years, and today happened to be one of those days! I walked in too see if they had any tattoo books and walked out with this cool book I am about to post pics of here!! It's all in Russian. If anyone has any info about this book, or speaks and reads Russian, please let me know!! The barbed wire on the cover evokes a prison yard; perhaps it's about prison tattoos? I asked the bookseller and he said no, just tattoos, but he doesn't speak Russian either. :p Here are some pics I snapped! I will snap or scan more if there's interest. Also: I no can without womans.

So not been on here for a while but I have finally had the 3rd session on my back after a short break... I went on holiday. It definitely felt like we hit quite a lot this time round but it might just be that we were moving a little bit all over. So to add to the conversation going on above I definitely prefer to gradually work from one area to another rather than jumping all around. Suddenly moving to a new spot really sucks. Anyway this is how the progress is looking.

  5. Day 1 & 2 with Silvano Fiato 12 hours yesterday on this and 8 more today, still not finished. Coming back in 4 weeks time to Silvano the day after Florian to fill in the knee, do some more detail to the bottom part. He has done some very heavy saturation so that it will look great when healed. Going back next June to do the back of the calf. I love Lee Jeffries stuff so obviously we based it around his works. For those that don't know his work, link below if interested :) Lee Jeffries - https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=tablet-android-google&espv=1&sboxchip=Images&tbm=isch&q=lee+jeffries+homeless&revid=1539496463&sa=X&ei=MZAHVLbOIKbhywPamYHoCg&ved=0CB0Q1QIoAA&dpr=2&biw=600&bih=800 Sorry for the shit phone pic, Silvano will post some better ones soon.

Working on my second sleeve. Both were started on bare arms so I could have a cohesive theme. Both are Japanese style and my back piece flows into both of them.

    Hi Im Ryan

Exactly. Having a tattoo wont help with us women but the process of getting one could quite possibly help you with yourself. The quotey thing is not such a good plan, TBH, for a myriad of reasons. But, by all means apply that sentiment to taking full ownership of your body by tattooing it, if you will. No need at all to be literal or cryptic, spending the next 50 years explaining will be a pain the ass. Go for something big, powerful and protective, indeed. Panther, dragon, eagle, whatever. Something you find visually appealing. This, to my mind, is unnecessary, cuntish bullying.

  14. You'll have to excuse the quality of the image here as a combination of operator error and poor equipment. Couldn't be happier with how this turned out, done by @cltattooing at FTW Tattoo Edit: sorry if the images are huge, I have no idea what I'm doing!

    Hi Im Ryan

I'd take moped and flip flops guy. Rolex and wanky suit guy sounds... well... wanky. :p Ryan, you have the benefit here of many "hot girls" who are into tattoos responding to your post (at least I imagine everyone who posts on LST to be a beautiful person. Right?) Getting a tattoo is not going to make a difference. Your personality and confidence will. By all means get an awesome tattoo, but do it for yourself. That is way cooler than getting a tattoo that you perceive will make you cool in the eyes of someone else. Girls can sniff that crap out really easily, and it is a huge turn off. No-one likes a try hard. Being true to yourself and being comfortable in your own skin is attractive. Anyway, in response to what you actually asked... phoenix? Classic subject, awesome to look at, carries the sentiment of the quote without being a quote...

I'm working on a theme of "awesome tattoos". Same theme on both arms, actually. - - - Updated - - - But seriously though, I did start out with the idea of a theme on my left arm, but I've kind of relaxed it as time has passed. I'm kind of down to this: Left arm - bright and bold. Right arm, dark(er) and bold. We'll see how my plan holds up as I get more coverage.

  25. It was posted up by Rich Fie that this is the last Saturday Tony Polito will open Old Calcutta for tattooing! He and Rich Fie have been going in every other Saturday for a while now to tattoo mostly other tattoo artists but it seems that is going to be coming to an end! If you want to see Old Calcutta once last time......or even for your first time.....then this is the last or only chance! I can't make it up because I would leave my shop short handed if I did BUT I thought I would let everyone know!

    Russian Tattoo Book

I'd be interested to see how much crossover there is between this book and the criminal encyclopedias. Who wrote the ones you have? The author's romanized name is Lev Mil'ianenkov (undoubtedly any of you who have turned to google since hearing the title have discovered this for yourself - stating for the record!). I found a few books that referenced this book. This is making for some interesting hunting around, that's for sure. I will post anything interesting I find.

Thanks a lot @ironchef. @hogg it is indeed Ian's work. It's turning out to be so much more than I imagined at the start. He reckons that we've got just one more session on the outline which is great news. I can't wait to see it fully formed and start making it come to life.

    Hello from alberta north!

Welcome! I like the hand tattoo idea, and I think the right artist could do something great with that. Have you looked into Ollie XXX in Edmonton? I feel he's a good choice for you because you like traditional. If you want to travel a bit farther, to Red Deer, you have Lucas Ford who kills it with both American and Japanese style tattoos and is, in my opinion, one of the best tattooers in the country.

People work they way they work, but what I like about focusing on one area is that you end up sending most of the time getting hit with a shader which is a lot more pleasant, relatively speaking, than four or so hours of lining.

Session two on my back. Mercifully we stuck to lining and shading the background on my upper back. Next time I think we're hitting the lower back, ass, and thighs, which I'm sure is going to be a lot of fun. Can't wait.

  42. I always feel so guilty buying gym gear. I have no idea why. I think my mindset is that since I am at home now, I should be competent enough to rig something up that works well enough. So buying it is like cheating. I'm an idiot.

  44. max kuhn tattooed my whole back in around 12 hours total. it didn't seem to be going by quick while i was getting done but thinking about over it now that it is finished i think i lucked out. mario desa is super quick too. outlined a scimitar on my stomach in literally 10 minutes around 2 years ago. the whole thing took about an hour and 20 minutes which again i'm grateful for because it was pretty awful. timmy tatts & lowercase j are both very fast too. timmy outlined a friends rock of ages backpiece is 45 minutes!

  46. Side of my head is tattooed! For me it was the most painful tattoo I have gotten.....but I hear others say it wasn't bad at all! Mine was done in two sessions and the lining was not too bad.......the second session of shading and blending was horrible! Pink Tibetan Snow Lion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Lion

    Mike Roper

Roper has covered a large majority of Dana's torso (or maybe the entire thing, I can't remember exactly) and it's amazing. This makes me think of the SNL skit where they talk about the fabled salesman Bill Brasky, and each story just keeps building off of the others. Roper once tattooed the Pharoh's Horses on the Pharoh's horses.
