Personal meaning is not necessarily etched in the design. That CR skull & flames BrianH posted early in the piece, go for something along those lines, slammed fkn solid in that forearm. Then you can say it was a matrix inspired tattoo. WHOA no one will know what the fuck ya talking about. Cool [emoji106]3 points -

CABS and one other reacted to cltattooing for a topic
Awesome, congrats!! I'll be attending but just as an observer. Last year I took requests for people who want convention merch and weren't able to attend and I'm glad to do the same this year! Definitely down to hang out with y'all.2 points -
In this thread, we commiserate about healing our fresh tattoos.

Read this: WHO calls for urgent action to preserve power of antibiotics and make new ones | Society | The Guardian I'm not a fan of antibiotics unless your limb is about to fall off, too many doctors prescribe them happily for little reason, specially when it comes to tattoos that they think look 'infected'. the more you take antibiotics the more they wont work when you really are in a life threatening situation. your tattooer (if reputable) will always know more about this stuff than a doctor, it is weird that it looks like this 16 days on but i'd keep what youre doing up. Keep it clean and dry untill it begins to feel better. Many moons ago i had a very problematic foot tattoo on myself, it took over 4 weeks for it to be fully healed, and some times it takes a longer than expected and sometimes it looks worse than others. Take care!2 points -

Hey! I've been thinking about this for a while, I bet there are more LST-members on https://www.couchsurfing.org Let us link together and help each other out! Good for finding sleeping spots and company when visiting other cities for conventions or getting tattooed. Great idea? Yes. Here's my profile: https://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=5HBY048N0 I'm in Stockholm, Sweden. Also made a group for us that we can join and find each other easily: https://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=957331 point -
I think it's hilarious that the supposed deep personal meaning of his tattoos derives not from (to paraphrase Stewart Robson here) deep-rooted human drives and archetypes, but from The fucking Matrix. On the topic of deep-rooted human drives and archetypes, here's an article that appeared in Slate a couple of years ago about how scientists are hypothesizing that anxiety developed in humans as a defensive mechanism against being killed and eaten by tigers, panthers, and snakes. So basically if you want a tattoo that gets right down to the essence of what it is to be a human being, get a panther.1 point

I think he means "...on this site: where art is more important than personal meaning." But, he isn't well informed on sentence structure. As for it not being a slam on the site... I think his idea of trying to hide insults is akin to Ricky Bobby's use of the phrase "with all due respect."1 point -

I'm planning on being there. No appointments but this year's list of artists is absolutely outstanding. I'm curious about Grime's or Gogue's lecture if space is available. Would definitely love to meet up with LSTers too.1 point

Thread locked! We do not discuss finances, tips, or green soap budget for that matter here @anomaly1964. Read the newbie guidelines, and please try to read between the lines instead of looking for loopholes. I'm sure you had an idea of how a question like that would be welcomed here. If you don't respect our guidelines you are more than welcome to leave.1 point

How much do tattoo artist really make?
Bunny Switchblade reacted to smiling.politely for a topic
If a tattooer charges $X per hour, he usually takes home $Y after paying a Z% shop cut. It's simple algebra, I'm sure you can extrapolate from there.1 point -
How much do tattoo artist really make?
misterJ reacted to smiling.politely for a topic
That's for that tattoo artist to know, and for no one else other than maybe their employer to find out. One of the very first rules of this forum is not discussing money as far as how much people charge for a tattoo... this question is by far rude and out of bounds. If some random person at Burger King asked for a copy of your tax return, would you take kindly to it? Honestly, if I were a mod, I would lock/delete this thread as soon as seeing it, and let you know how thin of ice you'd be treading on for asking this question. And to give a slight hint as to an answer, not as much as they charge you up front. No matter what they take home per hour (which is nowhere close to what you're charged), they also have to buy their own equipment (which isn't cheap, if it's good), provide transportation if they travel a lot, pay for any insurance they may have (health, car, etc.), etc. etc. etc. You don't get rich as a tattooer... Hardly any even get to be well off. Just varying levels of comfort, if you're fortunate.1 point -

Hopefully get to take a basic sign language course. just one hour/week for 6 weeks but if it goes well she'll add another 6 weeks. We have a hearing impaired student starting at preschool and our lead teacher is the only one who knows sign, so the other three of us in the room are going to learn as well. I will have to learn more as they're going to make me his one on one, so I will need to work more closely with him. Just kinda fun...sign is something I've wanted to learn since middle school and living clear out in the boonies we're kinda limited other than trying to teach yourself from a book or youtube.1 point -

Thanks to everyone who gave me good pointers in this thread. I have learned that we all look at tattoos differently and that I, indeed, am in the minority on this site, where art is more important than personal meaning (that is NOT a slam on the site)... I do find it a bit funny that those who keep commenting the thread won't die, keep posting in it... Wicked grin...1 point -

Ha ha! Jill Bonny, Jill Mandelbaum, Jill Halpin, and Horiyuki are all one and the same. Tattoo names, Japanese tattoo titles, pen/maiden and married names. Lots of names. But as she once said to me, though, people still manage to find and get tattoos from her. Which btw, I just set up a new consult next week to start something new. Can't wait!1 point -

KBeee reacted to TrixieFaux for a topic
I'd go with the picture you find yourself looking at more, that brings you the most joy when you look at it... If you want to picture her young and in her prime, that will make you happy. It's still her. You had the bond with the woman your mother was, so whichever image you go with, it's her. As long as you have an amazing portrait artist, you should be happy either way.1 point -
Hello and welcome! Either way is going to be meaningful to you. I would say go with the younger portrait because that seems to be more what you want. I'm not super crazy about having her drawn as an angel because I think that a regular realistic portrait without embellishment would be stronger, but ultimately, it comes down to what you want and what you and your artist decide will work best. Who are you thinking about going to for this tattoo?1 point
