3.5 hours last night. One more short session to finish, but I plan on expanding it so who knows how long it will take to be completely done. My mom took me last night b/c my husband was on duty for a summer "fest" our little town started putting on...this year Florida Georgia Line is here so last night there were over 16,000 people out at the fields...our town is maybe 5,000 population. Mom seemed pretty fascinated by the whole process, and really enjoyed visiting w/the artist. I'm quite certain she didn't expect the shop to be as nice as it is, and didn't expect the artist to be as friendly and talkative as he is. Not sure I can ever get it into her head to get a tattoo but it would be cool...maybe when I get my tree frog reworked she'll be more on board w/it.2 points

I can't find a thread about cat tattoos that doesn't involve Horitomo! I just ran across this day of the dead cat and I think it's kinda cool - something about the eyes. Nate Beavers.1 point -
I suppose I could get a little more in depth. My first tattoo was in 2005 when I was 18. It's on my right shoulder. It's a tigers eye, underneath "She's a Tiger." Reminds me not to take any shit basically, to always do my own thing. I had a controlling boyfriend since about 14, so it was my first step for me breaking out of out of his mindset. At this point, I'm planning on getting it freshened up. My second tattoo was in 2009/2010. It is a simple black X on my left outer wrist. It's a little messed up in that the lines aren't the same length, but I'll deal with that when it needs to be touched up. The X is from an anime called One Piece where it was a mark of friendship. My brother and I bonded over that anime, so it seemed appropriate after he passed away. My third tattoo was on Saturday. It was meant to be two fireworks as a memory of me and my husband getting married on 4th of July. It didn't turn out how I wanted, or how the stencil looked, but hopefully it can be saved. They just look like big ugly blotches kind of. Ah well... time will tell. Eventually I want a simple spiral behind my right ear. - - - Updated - - -1 point

The other week I found myself talking to this guy who was collecting cans and bottles on the street (to get the refund) about my tattoos. He just walked up and asked what I paid for them. I was so surprised so I told him some number close to what it might have been (I'm not really counting this..) and he was so shocked. He later told me that he wanted to get the names of his father, mother and sisters tattooed on his arm and asked me if 50 euro would be a good price for this. I told him Yes. We talked in length about why someone would get tattooed and spend all this money. He confessed he wanted to get gold chains around his neck, "like in America, rappers!" He also described a friend of his who "lived like a pig" but drove a BMW. Just some hours later I was sitting on a bench with a friend when a bunch of drunk girls, a bit younger than me, walked by. One of the girls stopped like she had hit a glass wall and exclaimed "Are those tattoos! I love them!", while pointing at my legs. She proceeded to touch my tattoos and grab hold of my legs, lifting them and twisting them to see better. I have never had a stranger do this to me before so I was too surprised to tell her not to. After a while one of her, slightly less drunk, friends grabbed hold of her shoulders and guided her away from me. The whole encounter was strange.1 point -

Pagoda City Tattoo Fest - August 2014
titforatat reacted to suburbanxcore for a topic
Cash was definitely king since the ATM in the hotel lobby ran out of money on Saturday afternoon. I went up yesterday with @huggernaut. Neither of us were getting tattooed, but a few friends were. It was a great time. It was reallllly small, especially compared to the conventions I'd been to in the past, but that worked to its advantage. So many heavy hitters all in one room putting down serious work. The Kings Avenue booth was packed to the gills in the middle row and everything I saw them put out was dope. A back wall was lined by Ron Wells, Chad Koeplinger, Steve Byrne, Tony Hundahl, Marina Inoue, and a few from Inksmith and Rodgers (among others). I had friends get tattooed by Ron, Grez, Chris Stuart, and others. I had won $100 from their IG contest, so Justin was nice enough to know who I was coming in, catch me, and get that all situated. Since my appt with Scott fell through, I spent it on the With The Light of Truth book and a shirt at King's Ave. And some cookies at Vegan Treats! All in all, the convention was great, and I hope it becomes a regular thing! I saw @chrisnoluck's tattoo in the other thread. Did anyone else go? Thoughts?1 point -
Yeah, seriously! He wasn't hostile, was more like pleading with me, but I snapped at him "because I like it!" I was hot and on a mission to find water. I'm about 2 mins away from getting tattooed by him. Excited!1 point

Thanks for all the nice words. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do next and I may have a plan. It changes on a monthly basis, because so many tattoo styles and designs appeal to me. But, I think I'm actually decided now. The first plan is to design a shoulder cap tattoo incorporating moths. I'm thinking full colour. I don't want to come too far onto the arm, but will touch onto the collarbone and spread out further at the back onto the shoulder blade. This led me to plan two - I already have swallows on my other shoulder blade (15 yrs old and in need of touching up--I think one is missing its beak), so I'm hoping to do a similar shoulder cap tattoo on that side, but with birds. I have an artist in mind (found via The Brag Art List), so I'm currently collecting pictures to begin the big design. It's not going to be a quick thing, and I doubt I'll be getting new ink soon, but it's exciting thinking I'm starting down that path again. It's two years since my last tattoos!1 point -

I was sort of in the same place as you a few years ago, and I eventually decided to not extend my 3/4 and just get something completely different on my forearm. I think it's going to look fine either way, as long as you get tattooed by someone who does solid work. Good luck!1 point

@beez I thought Matt Deverson did an incredible job of place my snake skull chrysanthemum on my leg. I really really liked that about him though, it was one of the reasons I chose him to do my more visible part of my leg, He seems to have a natural eye for placement. And yes the Geisha Spider is gonna be dope, Ive given Matt (Dr. Claw full artistic liberty, so I know it'll be bad ass. Your quite the beast getting that much work done in such a short span of time. I don't think I could handle that. After a long sitting I need a week of break to gather myself back up. As goes pain referral leg are very strange. Ive got most of my butt done and god damn it sucked, One of the worst Ive done yet. @Eilin that is a wonderful piece, Not my style but solid work. It always amazes my when somebody can transcend a style with the quality of their work Heres a pic of Matt (Dr Claws) work so far Matt Deverson's piece and my wifes arm with work by Deverson also And finally a little sumthin sumthin by the boss man himself Bill Slamon1 point

Hi guys!! For those who have not seen on Instagram, I was a dumbass and scheduled three days of getting zapped on my last trip to SF. That shit is hard on the body!!!!! @cltattooing made an awesome stabby skull for me, and then we hung out w @CABS, who is an alright type of guy (understatement of the season!). Junii added color to my froggy, some shading and background and outlined a peony on my thigh. We started the first snake! Matt (dr claw) started on my serene butt snake. Shad will be starting the mean back snake in October, and Junii is doing the thigh snake (I think?!) I was not the only one getting my butt drilled (word choice?) in the shop that day. I had the pleasure of watching Drew Flores begin one of the backpieces that is part of the 108 heroes of LA project. How cool is that?!? Also @petiloi was in the shop getting some work done by Bill Salmon. Hi!!! I did not identify myself bc, you know, tattoos. But it was cool anyway! Pics attached. Warning: Butt ahead!! (Nice asp, I know. Tips hat to @CultExciter for that one).1 point

A lot of literary tattoos are terrible because people are far too concerned with the literariness of them and not enough with actual tattoo design. I think there are a lot of ways of doing literary tattoos that are great and are probably overlooked by most people wanting literary tattoos...the scholarly skull or any permutation on that design is always great, you could look at ex libris bookplates for ideas, I can't find any reference images from a really quick google search but I am certain there are some Mucha or other Art Nouveau drawings that would fit the criteria. In general, I think too many people who want "meaningful" tattoos don't care enough about aesthetics and get crappy tattoos because of it. Here's my book tattoo done by Seth Wood. It's the Necronomicon, pretty obviously.1 point

@mblx - Of course we can't get it 100% right; not even close! If we could, Jesus wouldn't have had to come. But I agree with you, if we truly believe, people should be able to see it by the way we live our lives. I would argue that those people you describe are not Christians at all.1 point -
