Just to add to the discussion of "it's different for everyone;" before we started my torso, Chad told me my belly would be the worst spot, so he'd work his way down there. When we took a little break to pour more ink and spin me around for the other side, Joe was looking sympathetic and says "that head must've been rough, I remember getting tattooed in that spot." So, there's two tattooers and all the anecdotal information I've read on here saying I should have been miserable when my belly was being lined, but I had a much harder time with my chest and shoulders. Granted, the whole thing was rough, wish I could have slept better the night before.3 points

Finally my next session with Dana is approaching this Monday. It feels like a real long time since the last time he tattooed me.3 points

Another thing I'd say about selling supplies to the public...it is the opposite of supporting tattooing or the "industry". These are also the folks who will usually have the most difficult time finding legit shops to work in or apprenticeships. Anyone who is truly passionate about tattooing, they are out getting tattoos and forming bonds and relationships with people who are doing tattoos in shops who have dedicated their life to it. People who really support tattooing and get tattooed are the ones who, over time, are fortunate enough to find someone who will give them a shot.3 points -
So solid @Shaggy That spot can get tiresome. @hogg dropped some wisdom on me that I'd like to share. Use deep breathing like you are trying to blow out candles that are 30 feet away. My abs are usually exhausted after a session of breathing like that, but it works.3 points

Long Lasting Styles

Right you are, Ken! I think that those 'douche bags' are douche bags because of their personality, not their tattoos. You could be a douche bag with a kickass peice, but that doesn't make you any less or more of a douche bag. I don't think tying tattoos to a person's presonality is a mean's to discuss the art form in any capacity. I think that most people are here because they genuinely appreciate and respect tattooing as a practice and art form (all styles). I think most of us here are enthusiasts and we can appreciate all styles, even if we personally would not choose to wear it. Ultimately, to each their own. I don't care what somebody else is wearing. If I see a cool piece, hell yeah I'll admire it and ask questions but in the end I'll wear what I want and I have no reason to challenge others on their choices. Just my 2 cents.2 points -

Hi! Bomba here. Just found this site while browsing the web. I'm a fellow artist and I draw digitally and traditionally. I've always been intrigued by the concept of tattooing. I love the fact of someone being able to create art on our bodies. Being able to carry something you love permanently on your skin. I've always been interested in pursuing a career as a tattoo artist but that dream is put on hold for while or until I can find a reputable shop that can take me in as an apprentice, which won't be happening anytime soon do to the fact that the Most of the shops in my area don't really have skilled artists and those shops who do are close to imposible to obtain an apprenticeship in so I'll stick to my sketchbook for the time being. Buying a cheap kit online (which I will not do) won't make me into the tattoo artist I hope to become someday. Here are some of my work. My traditional is all on paper I will make sure to scan it into my PC and show you all. Critiques and tips on my ART is welcomed because I definitely know I have a lot to improve on.2 points -

Selling supplies to the public defeats the purpose of what you say you're trying to accomplish with this school. Not that you care about it, but you're not allowed to solicit on the forum, which is just a small reason why people are responding the way they are. There's no point in trying to explain why people will think that you're an interloper.2 points -

Hi everyone! I'm Callista, and I work at a pretty cool little tattoo shop in Calgary, AB called Ascending Koi Tattoo! I've been fascinated by tattoos my whole life, but it wasn't until I started working at Ascending Koi that it became a passion of mine. I'm not an artist myself, but I greatly admire the amazing artists I work with. I started a blank canvas, and in the last year and a half have acquired three very rad tattoos I try to show off at every possible opportunity. I'm still finishing my leg, and I really hope to turn the one on my arm into a sleeve eventually! :) Glad to meet you all!1 point -

First post here, I'm on the other end of the relationship... I don't have any tattoos and when I met my wife, she was already pretty covered up(thumb, wrist, arm, foot, multiple pieces on her back, ribs). I always thought it enhanced her features and was part of her and her personality. I don't know that it necessarily impacted my decision going one way or the other(I think her trunk had a much bigger impact :p) but I definitely always thought tattooed ladies were more intriguing than non-tattooed. My opinion on this has only gotten better the longer I'm with her, we've been together nearly 7 years now and married for 5 years (anniversary in 2 days) and I couldn't imagine being with anyone else, she's my best friend and if for any reason I'd ever end up being single again, I think I'd certainly add a checkbox on my list of criteria to include tattoos moving forward. I was one of those guys who always said I'm never going to get a tattooed unless I go all out and get sleeves done... I've always had designs and thoughts about what to do and what to get, but it was always just a thought. I was that guy you guys meet and can't stand who love to talk about tats but doesn't have any. Sorry! Well, she's been pushing for it long enough now that I was on a waiting list for nearly a year and am now booked for 2 sessions to get my 1st sleeve done in October. I'm so excited, I can't wait...1 point

Just got back from a pretty great trip to see family in Newton, MA, Cape Cod, Martha's Vinyard, and Springfield, NY. Last night we ended the trip with our annual Red Sox game at Fenway Park. That didn't go so well for the Sox, but we had fun. My friend got a foul ball. What did I miss around here?1 point -
Oh, you guys are making me so jealous at the idea of getting tattooed during the day and being awake and having a well-deserved enjoyable post-ritual to look forward to! My pre-ritual involves a nearly full day of work, food that won't upset my stomach, and baking a fresh batch of brownies for me and my tattooer. He only works after hours, so we end up starting within a couple hours of my normal bedtime. My post-ritual involves heavy caffeine or energy drink and careful driving to get me safely home in the wee morning hours, driving through vacation areas near the Jersey shore where cops hide out to snag drunken drivers after weekend parties and when the bars close. I always wonder what would happen if I get pulled over. NJ has a drowsy driving law even if you're not substance impaired. I guess it would depend on the officer, his attitude towards tattoos, and my cheery personality. But I think the leaking wrap and paper towels taped to my back would give credence to my statement that I haven't been drinking! And I also play the Count-the-Number-of-Fucked-up-People-on-the Road game. Some day I hope to get tattooed during the day and then aim for a bowl of ice cream and a steak. In that order :D1 point

Mid Year Assessments
cltattooing reacted to heathenist for a topic
Rose morphs were the first thing to come to mind, but they rule so it's not really a bad trend. However, I think we often overestimate how popular traditional tattoos actually are, sure they are hip right now, but in the larger scheme of things, are they really that popular compared to other styles? Like among tattoo collectors, the punk scene, etc. traditional tattoos might be pretty popular, but like in the general public I don't think many people give a shit about them. Whereas things like black and grey portrait work and even Japanese traditional are actually pretty popular in the general public.1 point -
