  1. So June didn't exactly break the record for most contestants, but man oh man, those who submitted had some killer lookin' tattoos! However, @ThatGuy stole the victory with this utterly stunning back piece by Valerie Vargas of Frith Street Tattoo in London. Congrats!!! Please PM @steve1461686340 with your shirt info (size and male or female) along with your address. New contest will be up shortly!

  5. I've been lurking for a while, just soaking in the atmosphere, but I suppose the time has come to formally say hello. So, hello! I'm tattooed (a little), but I have bigger plans (don't we all?). A little background - when I was in my mid-teens I decided I wanted a tattoo. I was underage, but I approached my mother and told her. I'd grown up around tattooed men (think old Navy type) so to me marked up skin was the norm. My mother said she would consider taking me to get a tattoo. The following day she and my grandmother came home, both sporting tattoos of their own. Apparently they wanted to beat me to it! I was so shocked and actually thought they were transfers to prove a point. No. My grandmother had got a tattoo. Needless to say they couldn't stop me after that. I was taken to the same shop five days later and got my first one. It was flash, not what I would pick now if I could go back, but hey, we live and learn. Anyway, great forum and community! I love the banter and knowledge you guys seem to have. Hopefully (when the time comes) I'll be showcasing my own new ink. :)

Funny and ironic....I'm reading the latest posts on this thread as I'm watching RED DRAGON on cable. The icing on the cake? As most of you know, I have a dragon on my back...from Rubendall. HA! @misterJ @BrianH PS. Yes, it hurt...a lot. But so well worth it.

  10. Had a nice little walk in not knowing what the fuck we were gonna do until after a couple of ales again. I'm enjoying these little pieces ATM. Keeping us interested before we get back to slamming fields of colour on my right thigh/ arse cheek. Anyway, eagles..skulls..daggers? fuck it, throw em all together mate! :)

  11. Joining the ribcage tiger club with this little guy. Taken from Yoni Zilber's IG, and done yesterday while he's guesting in Asheville. Super nice and humble guy. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Might be a new B&G enthusiast because of it. He has got some 20+ year old B&G tattoos that look no older than 5 - heavy and fine line stuff. Simply amazing. With that said, I will probably not get any more torso pieces for a long time haha. It was so worth the pain though.

    Hello from Brooklyn

Hey Everyone, I'm new here. My name is Brian, I'm 30 years old, from California but moved to Brooklyn a few years ago and really enjoy the city. I'm interested in tattoos as a very deliberate collector. As for my tattoos, currently I have two small tattoos on either side of my ribs. They are figures, inspired by cave paintings. I got them when I was 18, with a lot of thought about doing it, rather than thought about finding a great artists. So they ended up being significant to me but nothing special to look at. I was young. After that experience, I patiently waited until now to get some larger work done. I have two appointments coming up that I am very excited about, and a lot of free space! First appointment I booked is with Grez at Kings Ave. I really love his work. My loose idea is todo some animals on my left arm, in the inspired by natural history illustrations. Those appointments start toward the end of the year. Second appointment I booked, I feel so lucky about. I'm going to Italy for my first vacation in years, coming up here in July. I figured might as well just see if Rudy Fritsch had any openings that I could make and he happened to. So I booked that right away. I love how bold his style is, and particularly the buildings he does. So I've asked to do that. Even though my Italian is spotty at best, I'm really excited to jump into the deep end get tattooed not far from where ancestors lived (and probably also got tattooed). Anyway, that's me. The forum is great. Thanks for having me.

  13. guy at the newspaper did this of my daughter. Going to see if I can get the negative of it to make a poster to hang in her room. Finished our eight performances yesterday, and we got so much positive feedback. Several people came more than once, some came almost every night. The last four shows were all sold out.

  17. Went to the beach this weekend and finally got the opportunity to unveil Kongo Yasha Myo. As I was lying there reading my book, no one touched me. As I walked down the beach with my wife, no one asked me questions. Playing in the waves, no one stared at me. What am I doing wrong? Give me attention!!!!!! It's funny how sensitive people are with touching. One of the girls at the shop has a sweet forearm snake, or maybe it was a tiger.. this was last year sometime and the details are hazy, so she held out her arm to me and I touched her forearm to sort of rotate it so I could read it all at my own pace. After I realized what I did I recoiled in disgust with myself and apologized. She didn't seem to care, but I can't tell for sure. Now I think she secretly hates me and may have already posted in this thread about me.

  28. Today a little bit of everything has been done (in just 2 hours), red in the arrow, the glove, the shoe, the nails of the fox, even more red in the man's face etc. Next time we have some small things to do (which we couldn't do today because it's in parts that were not fully healed from the previous session, and to tidy everything up. I talked to my artist about the 'blank' part in the fox, and aked if he was planning on keeping it this way (as i think it looks a bit 'unfinished') but he gave me a firm 'yes' so I guess that's how it will stay :)

  31. Needles and Sins pointed out this gem, a CBC television interview with Doc Forbes from 1964. CBC Digital Archives - Pastimes General - Doc Forbes, tattoo artist The interviewer talks with Forbes and his clients, we get some nice looks at his tattoos and his flash, but the coolest thing about the interview for me is near the end when Forbes is tattooing an 82 year old client who has really extensive work from George Burchett including a battle royale backpiece from 1906. I've posted this picture before, but I'm a bit of a nerd about tattoo history and when I was visiting my family in Vancouver last Christmas I made an appointment with Chris Hold at Sacred Heart Tattoo so that me and @Pugilist could get matching tattoos from some Forbes flash. What could be better as a souvenir tattoo in Vancouver than a design from Doc Forbes? Chris was amazing and super accommodating about fitting us in on short notice, and the tattoos are great, so simple, folky, and charming. Chris had also fairly recently visited Lyle Tuttle, who has a pretty huge collection of Forbes' flash, and we got to see scans Chris had made of it and there's a lot of really great designs in there. Lucky's Tattoo Museum also has scans of a bunch of his flash that you can view here.

Ha! Because it's so much better to get started knowing you are going to get TORCHERED and then being relieved that it's really only just terrible, then to go in thinking it might be pretty bad and finding out it's REALLY TERRIBLE.

Shared a bed with a new acquaintance for 4 nights, biked around a bunch, met cool people, ate awesome food, saw the ethnographic museum and Pergamon, hung out with a friend from back home and stayed for two nights at my X's place. 36. So I have put on a bit of weight over the last couple of years, started aout 4 months after I did the Tough Mudder, and my most recent blood work came back with everything in the really not good zones. So I'm really starting to try to change diet and everything around and my wife has been working to encourage this. To this end she hit me with a great incentive. If I can trim down to a washboard stomach and keep it for a while she won't complain and I can go get a giant chest piece wherever I want. So, all y'all out in SF be prepared for me to be out there in about a year when I'm all trim and booked with Scott Sylvia.

As I was leaving Walmart tonight there was a older gentleman named Art running carts/security. He was happy to tell us all about getting these done on the west coast in the '40s. The rope was to protect him from drowning, and he's happy with how solid the panther still is.

Finished up session #4 got a solid 2:30 hours in today. I've crossed that line where my goal is to not move, sit still, and take 0 breaks that way he gets to make the most progress possible. I feel like 1 and a half more solid sessions and background is done. We discussed extending the piece officially to thighs and the consensus is finish this first. Honestly my excitement is far outweighing The pain

  42. I also especially love smiling and being really friendly to those who have obviously made a snap judgement on my appearance! My boyfriend is a muscly, skin head with very vibrant traditional tattoos of a reaper, a devil and all sorts of dark things. But he is the biggest, kindest and cuddliest bear ever when you speak to him! So polite and thoughtful, a real gentleman. It still cracks me up when he holds the door for a little old lady and they look terrified of his kindness!! haha EDIT: I am not so sure my BF would be so pleased that is how I described him come to think of it! Ruin his manly image ;)

  43. The machine I use that was put together by Tony Polito and Richie Montgomery has no cap and the one Tony used on me a week and a half ago had no cap! I am going to be replacing a front spring soon on mine though.......those who know will understand.....and those who don't "get why" don't need to know! Machine runs like a dream and is one of my two main shaders I use!

  46. I don't think the two are necessarily in contradiction. Read this article by JoJo Ackermann, especially the part where he talks about how he can do the same design on ten different people and have ten different tattoos at the end of it. Take a look at the sheet of roses that Adrian Sanchez posted on his blog here and notice how different they all are despite them all coming from the same line drawing. And this is even before we get into placement, how these tattoos go with your other tattoos, and so on and so forth. Basically, even if you pick a tried and true classic off the wall, you're still getting a unique tattoo.
