  1. Apologies. Can't get a better wrap around pic myself at present so stolen from her blog. Drawn on Eagle Vs Snake piece by the amazingly talented Valerie Vargas, Frith Street Tattoo, London.

  5. I just started my back as well. The worst part for me is always the lining. It just sucks and because its such a large area, it seems to take forever. That said, its manageable and well worth the few hours of suffering to get a killer, life-long piece of art. Good luck and I hope you have a good experience.

An outline of a bird filled with fruit loops. Good choice. Go see a tattooer in real life, who gives a shit about what some people on the internet think.

  8. While I had originally planned to work on my back today, we ended up filling in a few spots on my legs. The tattoos are from Dan Higgs' flash and were made by Tim Pausinger at The Pearl in Toronto. Sigh. Sideways pic.

  9. The badger sunscreen is nice because it is a simple formula with natural ingredients that are less likely to irritate the skin. And for me the zinc is nice, even if it gives me goth face and washes my tattoos out a little much, because otherwise I'd just be completely covered all rhe time and never get to show off :p

  13. Such nice folks on here! Oh no way, well not yet at least. For now top of the shoulders to just above my waistline. I'm going to John Gloyne @ Hot Stuff tattoos in Asheville, NC this weekend for the first session. Will def post up progress pics as it comes along; I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions during the healing process. Yeah, I'm a little nervous about the pain, but mostly it's ALL I can think about everyday. I'm so excited to finally get started.

  17. Ahhh, good ol Neutrogena! A few years ago my friends temporarily nicknamed me "SPF 100", when I brought a bottle of Neutrogena spf100+, with us on a wedding/vacation to Maui. I was the only one to bring sunblock and also the only one who didn't bring board shorts. I have an extreme distaste for direct sunlight and tanning. I'm paranoid of turning into a walking handbag. ;-)

  20. @scubaron If we are talking about the last 17 years then the only significant difference is more companies making it. The basic formulas themselves and for the most part the material that makes up the pigment particles haven't changed much. The only real significant change in the last 30 or so years is the introduction of synthetic binders. Without getting technical or saying more than this forum calls for I can sum it up into the difference between natural or synthetic ink. There are a lot more companies making synthetic ink with bright shiny packaging and sponsorship deals, tv appearances, etc, so to someone it might seem like there's all kinds of new technology and brighter colors but that's not really accurate.

    Foot Tattoo

i agree wrapping does seem to help with swelling/healing. with other parts of my body i've had the best luck with washing and rewrapping with plastic wrap every 8-10 hours. so i think i'll stick to that for my feet too.

    Foot Tattoo

Do you work on your feet a lot at work? If not, then I'd say you could probably get em both done. Sounds like you have a solid plan. My one bit of advice from getting my feet done (at different times): Wrap your foot up with some kind of breathable medical (gauze) tape after you remove the initial bandage. It really really cuts down on the swelling. I put a gauze pad over the tattoo before wrapping it up to prevent chaffing. Everything is a breathable material so it still air drys.

  29. Haha, I thought you meant to attach an image. Now that I see it, it's super cool. Honestly, this whole search came about because I talked to a Japanese tattooer on the phone about maybe getting a money mallet, and he said, "I think the drum is cooler." I thought I knew what he meant, but I obviously didn't. I still think the hammer's cool, though.

  30. This solid baby sunscreen from Aveeno has been very helpful as the sun's gotten stronger. I always have one on me for emergencies. It's probably pretty useless if you're covered but works well for reapplying to small-to-medium sized tattoos in places that get a lot of sun exposure, and it doesn't stink/feel greasy.

  31. I'm going to go through my whole process. This is what my tattoo looked like immediately after got home, about an hour after I got the tattoo. As I was instructed I took off the plastic wrap, and washed it with a tiny amount of soap while gently massaging it. I used very hot water to kill germs and wash off as much stuff as possible. Then I used a tiny bit of aquaphor and re-wrapped it in ordinary plastic wrap. The next morning I was thinking about the how much my last tattoo scabbed, how much it hurt to stand up, and how I have heard red can take months to heal completely. I decided the Saniderm I bought was worth trying. I washed the tattoo with soap again while massaging it, and I thoroughly rinsed it in very cold water to reduce swelling as much as possible before applying the bandage. I applied the Saniderm. My tattoo dripped a lot and a lot of liquid collected under the Saniderm. The next day I peeled it off, washed my leg again, and applied another sheet of Saniderm. As I said before, I believe this was responsible for a huge reduction in pain and swelling. This morning I felt some tingling when I stood up to get out of bed, but there's no pain at all, and no swelling. It's been about 4 days since I got the tattoo. I took a long walk this morning and my tattoo started to itch. I decided it was probably due to sweat collecting under the bandage so I removed it, and took the photos that I'm attaching to this post. I have a photo of my leg before taking off the bandage, immediately after, and what it looks like after I used Aquaphor. Now that my skin is bare there is no itching. When I took it off some skin and ink came off with it, but nothing major. I washed the tattoo without soap and put some Aquaphor on it to prevent the next application of Saniderm from sticking too much, as the Saniderm website recommends. Other than the dead skin that still needs to peel off, my tattoo seems practically healed to my eyes, but I'm going to apply another piece of Saniderm when I'm done with this post to be on the safe side. So far this is going really well and I'll probably use a product like Saniderm on any future tattoos I get.

  40. I turned down an invite to Vegas, because I am taking a month off of work to go to an outpatient rehab for a helluva coke habit. I haven't mentioned anything about it on here, because I didn't want to bring something like that to a proper tattoo discussion, and it wasn't really needed. But, now that I am actually having good thoughts and actions towards getting help, I feel it's okay to say something to the rad people of LST who have shown me so much love and support in my tattoo endeavours. I'm definitely struggling, and I really am in deep with it all, but I have my older sister who is my best friend supporting me in all this, and I think it's going to stick. I know of one other LSTer who no longer posts who went through some similar stuff, and his example has crossed my mind more than once over the past couple of months. Posting here helps me, because I am an introvert, and actually putting myself out there convinces me more than it convinces others that I am actually doing something positive. I went to the bar tonight to talk to someone who helped me with my resume a while back, and he is putting me in contact with a rather elusive tattooer for my magazine. At a time like this in my life, I am glad that tattooing exists to help me feel like I am still worth something more than having this cocaine addiction. Bought my ticket to Lee Fields at The Fillmore next month since @CultExciter was so kind as to post his music. Ordered the catalog for Perseverance, after some long weeks of spending way too much money on non-tattoo things. That's my awesome struggle update.

  42. Sounds like he just wants to fuck you over and get your money and go party! Or.. sounds like he's nervous about doing a sizable tattoo and has been getting some guidance on the drawing along the way and maybe chose a time that his mentor is free and can give him a little coaching. If he's an apprentice (or still super green) he may be sweating it. I doubt it's some grand, money-making scheme. If you like the kid's work, work with him. Also, sometimes you have to get tattooed on days that aren't 100% convenient.

  43. I gotta agree with the sound advice already given above. Faaark the wings, go the full eagle. Not only are eagles the epitome of cool, they're timeless, and as a kick arse tattoo you will love it weather your 18 or 80. Ditch the superman idea, that'll go down as "the tattoo I got when I was 18". Full blown eagle, either smashed on the chest or across the front would both be shit hot. But in saying this, this will be your 1st tattoo mate. A major piece em blazed on your front is no walk in the park. But don't let that make you opt for a little piece you may regret later just to test the waters. Maybe...work out a killer half sleeve or something on your arm, then progress to a more challenging part of the body. But then, I also know fellas who have gone hard core, straight up tattoo number 1. Either way, the consistent advice here is choose well. This is my eagle smacked under my chest. Eagles are rad!

  45. It's a tattoo you've had for a while and is healed? I have some tattoos that raise up a bit sometimes, usually and as far as I can tell, due to things like weather, heat, and humidity. I'd say that if it isn't much of an annoyance and only happens from time to time that it's best to just leave it alone and ignore it. If it is a nuisance I'd try taking antihistamines to see if that has an effect.

  47. just to throw this out there. i was talking to my daughter yesterday while she was drawing. and she told me that what she was drawing was a tattoo. so i said cool i didnt realize it was a tattoo and her was response was "of course daddy, it has black in it" i never told her that it was her own observation, needless to say i was extremely proud of her. so after all that could be said about what lasts or not i can say this. if a 5 year old can come to that conclusion on her own that its only makes sense to have black in tattoos then i conclude whether things stay or not it belongs there.
