    Who is Dave Gibson?

I had these two done at Lucky's roughly 14 years ago. Both of them are by Morgwn Pennypacker. I'm pretty certain the one on the right is Dave Gibson flash.

  7. Well shit, I was all punk rock in the 80s but I don't know many of these bands you guys are talking about! I got to see some classics, like the Ramones, play in Hartford, CT... I loved bands like the Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, the Specials, Flipper, Devo, the Rezillos... ok too many to list. Some stuff from the more fun/silly punk rock side of the spectrum to some heavier stuff. Always loved David Bowie and Elvis Costello, not even sure what genre Elvis falls under, new wave? These days, I've been listening to the new Brody Dalle album, Diploid Love: And I love this Shirley Manson/Brody Dalle collaboration, Girls Talk:

  9. That tiny little club in Lafayette Indiana, where I grew up, had some really impressive bands come through. I did not even realize at the time how lucky I was for the fact that I was in the middle of nowhere midwest. Op Ivy, Dag Nasty, Naked Raygun, Zero Boys, Toxic Reasons, KGB, Screeching Weasel, SS20. Damn that was a fun time.

This was terrible at first for all the reasons mentioned here -- poor sound quality, Troy talks too much -- then I got sucked in. The Chris O'Donnell and the Horizukara ones were really interesting, and I actually liked the Lori Leven one too. He hinted at an upgrade so maybe they'll work out the kinks.

  13. I searched around and found no threads about punk music. Well here it is, all things punk rock. Post some new bands on the scene, or some classics. Also any punk tattoos, jackets, vests, mohawks, or anything else related. Sorry in advance if there's another thread like this.

Well, it's complicated because since it's her first tattoo, she thinks she has an obligation to make it mean something. All said and done, though, I know she will be happy as long as it's pretty, which is a guarantee. Because of my obvious Japanese art preference, she has come to feel the same way. So hers will be something along those lines. I would guess that either botan, chrysanthemum, or maneki neko are her top 3. I want to convince her to get a little maneki-neko popping out of a botan, but we'll see. Now if she backs out and it's up to me to fill the slot, I want a heikegani. I bet Wendy would kill it. Assuming I wasn't too slow and we get a spot :( What are you thinking about getting @ironchef?

I sat last weekend for 5 hours, and my guy texted me at 3am that he has me on the schedule for tonight - forgot to take me off the schedule since we had a session last week. Sooooo, looks like I am sitting again tonight! The bummer is I don't have any brownie mix to bring down a plate of fresh chocolate goodness.

  18. Something postitive from my side... I work at the national air traffic control center in Switzerland, as an Aeronautical Information Management Controller. Sounds pretty uptight, right? I had some doubts if tattooing my arms would be a no-no. However when I learned that they hired a girl with neck tattoos, I went for it. Here's the exchange from a superior several management layers above me: Her: New tattoo? Me: Yes Her: Ooooooh show me! Me *shows outlines of Oldschool Pirate Girl and Ship Halfsleeve* Her: Wow thats beautiful! But you get it colored in, right? Me: Sure I do Her: Cool you have to show me immediately then End of story. Also, several coworkers who have expressed prejudice against tattooed people actually admire mine. Work relationship has not changed in the slightest, but instead even improved. A lot of coworkers now come to me for recommendations. Nice talks ensue.

  19. I saw them in a tiny little club in Lafayette Indiana. I was there to open the club for them when they showed up. The funk that came out of that van when they opened the door is something I will likely never forget until the day I die. fucking awesome show though, He kept jumping around between songs saying "We just want to be your friends!!!!"

  20. My 1st tattoo, back in 1985 was the spiky haired punk rocker being shot through the head from the Sub Hum Anz album The Day The Country Died. Had it reworked and it sits in with the suit great. My 1st tattoo at 17, and now turning 46 this year, love it as much as I did then. "Don't worry, you'll get over it, you'll grow old, you'll calm down, another youth, another fashion"..... Haha! Not even! Great thread. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think my wife is finally ready to get her first tattoo! So tomorrow (actually, later today I guess) we will be heading into Toronto to try for a walk-in at The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop. If we're too late or they're really busy I will try at The Okey Doke. Not sure exactly yet what either of us will get. I'm going to add to my left arm, I've got a couple ideas (and the rest of tonight at work to keep thinking of more). She's been looking at Pinterest for ideas (!) so hopefully she ends up with something cool but tbh I'm just happy she'll go with me.

My guys sent me some texts last night saying his grandmother has to go in for surgery the day of our appointment. He was really apologetic about it. I told him not to worry and to go take care of his grandma. We can make another appointment when that situation has stabilized. I mean, damn dude, go take care of her. I guess some people can be real dicks because he seemed genuinely surprised at my response. Family first, all the way. It might have been a bit different if I had a cross country trip planned for the appointment but I would hope my reaction would still be the same.

  28. So many awesome tattoos here lately, wish my tapatalk likes would show up! I got double teamed on my feet today, Jason Walstrom did the pig while Mimi Wunsch did the rooster. Pics stolen from their IG's. Wasnt as bad as I'd thought it might be beforehand, but definately stung more in a few places than most other spots so far, a bit worse than collarbone, nowhere near as bad the rib cliff. It's gonna be a fun few healing days coming up I'm sure!

  33. Greetings my inked brothers & sisters, esteemed Artist Masters, Collectors of fine body art, Kitchen Wizards extraordinaire ...lowly fellow newbies. I am here for ANSWERS! The questions are irrelevant. I wish to snatch the pebble from the master before he can close his hand. To hear the grasshopper at my feet. I seek the path to enlightenment, a rad Japanese sleeve, the joy of a good, full bodied cigar for under $4. And most importantly to be the first kid on my block with a Frank Frazetta like viking with a Jackson Pollock inspired ink job done by Paul Acker. Since you asked, I would say I am a cross between (pre-cocaine) John Belushi, Chuck Norris's emotionally suspect cousin, and remember that guy on the TV show Night Court? The one that does magic tricks and dresses like he's from the 40's? Yeah, not that guy. I want to take this opportunity to put the rumor to rest that I was born in a manger in Bethlehem. Actually, I was born in the Bronx. Many, many, many people would agree that my greatest strength is my humility. I would confess that my greatest weakness other than kryptonite; is that sometimes I can be a little bit too...awesome. In conclusion, I am here to learn and share in the fellowship of exquisite, exciting and daring ink. I hope that you allow me to tap into that wellspring of precious insight that can only be acquired by learned experience and angry, self-righteous maturity. While we're here I hope we can share some laughs along the way and If were not careful we just might learn something. Let the panic commence, MAGIC HATE BALL

John Sultana at Saved does a lot of the black and grey geometric stuff. I'm not too well-versed in that style of stuff, though, so I don't know how he may be with a raven.

  36. Hmmmmmmmm I wonder if anyone has a copy of International Tattoo Art November 1996 issue???? If you do not, too bad, it came out before a lot of "contemporary" tattooers were able to grow those beards. He has flash set's older than the latest crop of tattooers out there............and it's all done with a speedball nib, and water colors. Try to get a back issue, because it is a very long interview, with tons of really good pics of REAL street shop tattooing. I still do his flash in my shop to this day.

That thing was pretty bad...I couldn't get past the egg-shaped negative space on it's forehead. That elephant definitely had a cut and paste feel to it but I would rather wear that then have that horribly drawn melting mask tattooed on me forever. An ugly drawing tattooed well is still an ugly tattoo.

well fuck me! thats cool as shit, I would probably just sit and listen. I was very close to getting something from hooper early this year in Austin. I think I dont deserve my good fortune sometimes I mean within the year by SOG I will have been tatttoed by richard stell, Valerie Vargas, David Bruehl(who is getting me in before he moves to Red letter 1 in Tampa) and Maybe Marcus Kuhn( he offered to do something in late may but I am traveling for brothers wedding. With the pregnancy issues I wont travel more than a day till SOG so unless I do a Dallas trip my tattoo next week will last me till late october. Man one year ago I joined here trying to get some bad covers covered now I am getting some work from some of the best IMO and thankful
