  2. Got my koi done today finally. We didn't go all the way around the back this time, the tattooist thought it would be better to wait until I extend it down to the forearm to do that. The colours don't look that great in the photo- irl they are far brighter. Need to take a daytime + healed photo at some point. 7.5 hours.

  5. Thank you!! So, as I have mentioned before, Junii usually has some inspiration right before the tattoo and our plans change a bit - now it looks like we're going back to two snakes, no hannya (maybe). And the collab? Oh, just Junii, Shad, and EVERYONE IN DIAMOND CLUB, nbd. !!!!! At the beginning of the second day, I was looking at some frog paintings my hosts have around their home and vaguely thinking "what a cool tattoo that would be". Headed to the shop. As soon as I get there Junii says "what do you think about this?" and pulls out some frog stencils she made!! As my mind was wrapping itself around this fun bit of synchronicity, she explained that she wanted to put a meditating frog down at the bottom of my leg, and then add some dreamy clouds working their way up so it appears that everything we see is what the frog is sitting and meditating about - we have a beginning now!! She is going to add a few more frogs, one guy with beads, another one with a coin, maybe another guy. I am so satisfied with how this tattoo is coming along - not just with the quality of the work, but also the completely organic nature of how the tattoo itself is developing. It's really incredible to be part of this experience!! ...searching for more words...I'm just into it, is all. :p I'm booked again in July...we'll see what she comes up with next!!!!! I've attached some action shots and one of me being just clearly insanely happy to be where I am. (Thank you for indulging me). Yes @Lance, best birthday present to self ever. @Zillah the koi looks great!! You are a beast to sit for 7.5 hours - that shit is hard! Congrats and can't wait to see a healed pic.

@misterJ Getting your back tattooed is no joke. If you sat for that long you can't call yourself a wimp in my opinion!

  17. Yea I was like third in line... I got there at like 5:30am and was shocked when I wasn't first. In the picture they took of the line outside I was the big guy in a red shirt at the front. (I think it was a red shirt) They posted it on instagram ages ago. It was funny how many people walking by asked if we were waiting for concert tickets. I hope the pic uploads but its a tiger fighting 2 smaller oni with peonies wind bars and waves. In the pic I'm like 4+ hours deep and felt like death. Rubendall is the man for coaching me through the session. He is an absolute professional and super cool EDIT: the big purple circles on my back are spaces reserved for 2 more peonies he didn't yet draw up he kept it there for visual reference.

arg I got six hours on my back today... And I feel like I am handling it like such a wimp. But, the focus on being calm and breathing helped me get through the first session.

    The ladies thread

Uh yeah, creepy ass grabbers at the coffee shop in the morning (7 am fer crissakes!) who think it's a) okay to grab my ass, and b) ask "how do I get to see all your tattoos?" <shudder>. Also my stepdad's friends definitely think I'm a ho' bc of my tattoos aaaand I get a lot of conservative married men asking me to send them pictures!! And you know they don't want pics of just the tattoos. Ugh. Shudder. @Tesseracts you are right on re the wrong kind of attention. (We're all hos and freaks, after all!). Ps I'm getting tattooed now...:p

    The ladies thread

How sweet! I actually saw some tattoo colouring books at the Tate Modern shop the other day and initially thought that it was a bit over the top to get little kids into tattoos already...but your story brings a totally new perspective to this. I'm curious to see how my two year old son is going to react to my first tattoo :-)

  35. I don't really have a normally. Right now I am getting work done by Mr. Rubendall at Kings Ave. I am headed for my second session on my back piece this Saturday. I am beyond excited and am sure this will slowly evolve into a way too expensive bodysuit of some variation as long as he will be patient with me lol. Part of the reason I joined up was I wanted to journal the progress of this piece (possibly). thanks for the welcomes

    tattoo tux

This is an old photo of a Bali mask he did on my friend John, he has extensive work from Tux as well. This is the flyer he gave me when we met; I looked really puzzled at 1991 when it was still October or November 1990 but I realized that he was printing them for the upcoming year. Or he was time traveling. Yup

  37. I have a big nasty keloid scar on my shoulder from surgery. It's an old scar, but still big, ugly and raised. You can still see it, but it's totally covered by the sharks tail. I did make the artist shift the tail to fully cover the scar, so the tattoo does look a little off. This picture is immediately after getting the tattoo. The scar is a little less raised now. I'm happy with it.

Unquestionably so. Dan would be the first to agree. Just look at this shirt; although he drew this after Dan started to develop his own style you can see where a lot of his early influence came from. Sorry for the huge pic; I can't figure out how to edit photobucket on the smartphone app.

    tattoo tux

I didn't really work with him as an artist or front desk; He let me tattoo myself there a few times and let me hang around whenever I wanted and answered any question I had. I was at his shop as much as possible between the years of 1990 to 2000. I feel lucky to have been in that situation because he was extremely gruff to just about everybody, especially other tattooers. Had a big opportunity not fallen into my lap halfway across the country I believe that would've been my first 'job'. There were only 2 people in that whole time that he set up machines for and the other person was my roommate at the time. There's no right/wrong 'what I should've done/chosen to do' at that time just decisions made and where they take you. I don't regret moving away from Baltimore at a turning point like that but sometimes I do wish I had been able to spend more time there at his shop at a crucial time like that before he passed away. I still talk to his widow fairly frequently and she tells me that she knows he would be proud of me now. I plan to see her again when I go to Bmore for a guest spot this summer, and have set up a visit with Nick and Thom as well during that same trip. Nick also had a big hand in showing Tux the ropes as did Thom and Elio. I recommend getting some artwork from Nick; he's a super rad guy and an amazing artist. - - - Updated - - - There's a certain not-to-be-named somebody here that has some great photos of Tux & Thom recently purchased that I've never seen before; I'll let them post them if he/she wants to after that person sees this thread. - - - Updated - - - One of the somewhat little-known people in Bmore worth knowing about is Tattoo Charlie Geizer Charlie Geizer Although his shop has changed hands and is no longer part of the Geizer family the shop is still there (in the red light district, of course)and worth a visit if the old flash is still up. My favorite part of Charlie's shop is the painted screens he had done. Screen painting, an old Baltimore folk art tradition, has themes that are usually quaint country scenes and whatnot but Charlie's screens are HUGE and are Bmore landmarks including 2 (3?) huge clipper ships. They're on the second floor so it's really difficult to get pictures of them. Bunny, you need to get someone to let you go into the offices across the way from them and explain how unique, special and part of Baltimore history they are so you can photograph them. edit; for the sake of a rough idea of what I'm talking about I used google street view. Not as good as actual photos but you get the idea. I also feel compelled to give context of where it's located. For a short period of time as a young lad I worked at what used to be a carry-out greasy spoon where that Subway is now. Memories.

  44. I grew up with the intention, & the values of never touching my face, neck or hands. After many years of acquiring my suit, well, I kind of figured only then, I earned to have my hands & neck sleeved in. And I have to say, at first I felt a little odd with my neck & hands being so exposed, but love those tattoos & feel they really compliment the suit work. I remember when I was 18 & wanting my hands done, although there was no way any tattooer would until you reached the stage of completion. I appreciated that sound advice, & fully understand the reasoning behind it. I had to wait 28 years to extend :) Will never touch my face for obvious reasons, & probably not my head. Only because I don't want to shave my hair, otherwise, head tattoos are faaarkin' awesome.

  47. @irezumi This case has been on my mind for the last few days. Especially that asshole's shit-eating face and how badly I'd love mangle it. But I'm not a violent person by nature. I just hate it when it's so glaringly obvious.
