Thanks @TrixieFaux and @El Dolmago I think she'll get over it too. I gave her a big hug and reminded her that she didn't -really- have a normal mummy anyway. She said, "oh, yeah..." Heh. I reassured her that just because I was getting an upper arm tattoo didn't mean I was going to suddenly pick her up from school in a tank top (because that's not what I normally wear). I also printed out for her the koi design I'm getting and asked her to colour it for me. Now she's really excited and wants to show the tattoo artist her colour choices ;)5 points

Ok, sorry to buzz kill this thread. Now back to your regularly scheduled program ... So, I'm gearing up for another session next Friday and trying to get my head in the game. Psychologically, this every 2-3 week sit-as-long-as-you-can business is wearing on me. I'm healing a couple jellyfish now, and I'm not sure at ALL what we'll be working on! Possibly start filling in the water. He showed me a huge needle he's going to use that has like a thousand points on it for shading @_@ ::newbie eyes spinning:: Double the size, double the "pleasure"?5 points

Aw, poor mommy! Kids are so honest with what they are feeling in the moment and they don't hold back, do they? It's a good thing...but hurts sometimes! It's a good chance to ask her what's normal anyway and what's so great about it? The most normal looking mom may spend her time behind closed doors screaming her head off at her kids, who knows? It probably has more to do with change being scary. You're going to look different. My daughter kind of freaks out every time I change my hair. I told her, I've been dying my hair since I was 13, I'm not going to stop now...change is fun, you'll get used to it. And of course she always does. Then I change it again. Your daughter will get used to your new tattoo! She just needs to learn that having pictures on your skin doesn't change who you are and realizing this can help her grow up to be more open minded. Haha, I just asked my 6 yo daughter for fun, "Stella do you like tattoos?" She goes, "Nah, I don't wanna get one." I laughed and said, "But do you like them on others?" She said, "Yeah." Then she went to jump on her trampoline.4 points -
One of my buddies want to get a small neon sign with a simple pull chain to turn it on and hang it above the station, so that anytime someone asks "Can I get a tattoo of a word in white ink?" ... stop tattooing, reach over & pull the chain - 'FUCK YOU POSER' pull the chain to turn it back off and return to tattooing. No words or even eye contact need be said or done. "Can I get a word on my pinky?" 'FUCK YOU POSER' "Can I just get a line or two with no ink to see if I can take it?" 'FUCK YOU POSER' "Can I get it backwards so that I can read it in the mirror?" 'FUCK YOU POSER' (not kidding, this has been requested along with "can I get this quote on my ribs upside down so that I can read it?") "Can I blah blah blah waste your time blah blah blah I want a tattoo but not really I just want to say I have one" 'FUCK YOU POSER' The whole idea that this thread is based on gets the FUCK YOU POSER. Not to any of you personally, I think what I said is pretty clear.4 points

Uh yeah, creepy ass grabbers at the coffee shop in the morning (7 am fer crissakes!) who think it's a) okay to grab my ass, and b) ask "how do I get to see all your tattoos?" <shudder>. Also my stepdad's friends definitely think I'm a ho' bc of my tattoos aaaand I get a lot of conservative married men asking me to send them pictures!! And you know they don't want pics of just the tattoos. Ugh. Shudder. @Tesseracts you are right on re the wrong kind of attention. (We're all hos and freaks, after all!). Ps I'm getting tattooed now...:p3 points

Continuing the work on my leg next week with this Zeis flash piece. I'll see if I can dig up some more wolf pics. That is one of our favorite shots just because it shows how big they can be. Lakota was only a little over a year old when that picture was taken; he is about 5 years old now and still very human-friendly. He lives in an enclosure with his three siblings. We refer to that enclosure as the lickatorium. :D - - - Updated - - - A couple more shots from the same moment. All I can find on my computer. I'll dig up some more this weekend. There are a ton of wolf sanctuaries around the country and most are desperate for volunteers. A little sweat is all that is required in exchange for making a bond with a wolf...or ten. We generally camp about 50' below the pens in an Aspen grove. Few things in this world match listening to wolves howl at the moon right up a hill from your camp. Highly recommended! - - - Updated - - - Here is the video that those shots were pulled from. It was our first visit to the sanctuary. A couple of the wolves are hybrids; Zoya being the prime example. She was actually domesticated and lived indoors for a while, which explains her rotund shape. The second video is more for sound. It was the first night we spent at the sanctuary. Everybody we take camping there, goes back for more.2 points

The ladies thread
TattooedMumma reacted to SeeSea for a topic
I haven't seen a thread that focuses on gender-specific advice, information-sharing and support for the wonderful ladies around here. Little gems are randomly sprinkled here-and-there within other threads. I thought it would be a nice idea to collect that type of stuff in one place. Questions like, "what do you do about wearing a bra after getting a tattoo?" and "does it really hurt more to get a tattoo the week before and during your period?" And the empowering stuff like the wonderful thread about using tattoos to feel better about your body - especially the delightful discussion of beautifying the horrendous "batwings." In addition to starting new topics here, when we find relevant nuggets of info elsewhere (I'm kicking myself for not making bookmarks of them), we can add those links here so we don't have to repeat everything or we can refer back to existing stuff. About responding to existing content: When you find good stuff elsewhere, if it's part of a well-encapsulated or dedicated thread, it would be best to reply over in that thread so content is together (and put a link here if there isn't one already). If the good stuff you find is randomly spread through a larger or unrelated thread, then include the link to the first post where the good stuff starts, and respond here so your new info doesn't get lost over in an unrelated thread. The boys are welcome, too, you know, because anything related to boobs and bras and the lack of bras surely has universal appeal, etc. - - - Updated - - - So I'll start with the period question - does it really hurt more the week of and during your period? Have you dealt with it in any special way...rather than praying to the menopause gods or demanding a hysterectomy just to get more tattoos? :D - - - Updated - - - Here's the start of a thread about bras and tattoos in the bra area: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-after-care/32-best-post-tattoo-care-page10.html#post517341 point -

I'm surprised we don't have this thread yet; or it's here and I've never seen it. This is a tattoo forum so I would think to keep it fairly or at least somewhat tattoo related. That said, I will probably be the first to post upcoming shows that aren't at all related. My good friend and work buddy Joel Long is having a show at Adrian's new spot, scrolls and paintings that will completely blow your mind. A bunch of it was displayed at a local gallery late last year, and I posted a couple of teasers from that show, but this is a chance to see them in person and see some new ones as well. Myself and a few of the others from Bolder Ink will be in attendance. Show up and hang out drink wine eat cheese mingle shake hands buy artwork and all that other stuff.1 point

Yeah, the unsolicited attention can be a bit much. I had a man inquiring about my about pain tolerance/threshold in a really creepy, sexual way; it was gross. I've had a man follow me, chanting a prayer. Some people have weird hangups and misconceptions regarding tattoos (esp tattooed women), other people don't know when to shut up or how to think before they open their mouth, other people are just disgusting specimens of humanity. The only thing I can control is how I react (which is usually exciting the scene very quickly). On the brighter side, a friends young son told his mom she should get decorated fancy like me.1 point -
How sweet! I actually saw some tattoo colouring books at the Tate Modern shop the other day and initially thought that it was a bit over the top to get little kids into tattoos already...but your story brings a totally new perspective to this. I'm curious to see how my two year old son is going to react to my first tattoo :-)1 point

Anything is possible if you throw enough time and money at it. I see it as an evolution of technology, for all the wrong reasons. Just because you can doesn't mean you should be doing it. The human element (on both sides of the ink slinging) is what makes the art an art. Rob1 point -
And on another note: Mummies/Mommies with tattoos... my 10 year old daughter imagined the tattoo I am getting tomorrow would be smaller. Now that she has realised I am getting my upper arm covered she is upset. I asked her why she is upset and she said "Because I want a normal mummy!". Heart -broken-.1 point

Do you have a car? Are you limited to public transportation. Specifically, what do you want to get? Do you want to collect a few small tattoos or start a sleeve? There are soooo many good tattooers in the city, in the boroughs , upstate , NJ etc. Is that your entire tattoo budget or just to get started? I'm sorry to bombard you with questions but I think your answers will help us direct you better1 point -

A lot of my real estate has been filled up and so I've ended up going the unorthodox route of putting multiple smaller pieces on my thighs. So thought I would share a racy picture of me in my underwear...I mean of this bizarro mystical panther I had placed on my inner thigh by Shawn O'Connor (now in Nelson, BC at Timber Tattoo Co). One sit for 4 hours. I'm planning on getting another sit in at the end of summer to add some flames as well as fill in all the thigh gaps with spider webbing. - - - Updated - - - "Don't lick the frog"1 point -

tattoo tux
rightbrigade reacted to irezumi for a topic
I didn't really work with him as an artist or front desk; He let me tattoo myself there a few times and let me hang around whenever I wanted and answered any question I had. I was at his shop as much as possible between the years of 1990 to 2000. I feel lucky to have been in that situation because he was extremely gruff to just about everybody, especially other tattooers. Had a big opportunity not fallen into my lap halfway across the country I believe that would've been my first 'job'. There were only 2 people in that whole time that he set up machines for and the other person was my roommate at the time. There's no right/wrong 'what I should've done/chosen to do' at that time just decisions made and where they take you. I don't regret moving away from Baltimore at a turning point like that but sometimes I do wish I had been able to spend more time there at his shop at a crucial time like that before he passed away. I still talk to his widow fairly frequently and she tells me that she knows he would be proud of me now. I plan to see her again when I go to Bmore for a guest spot this summer, and have set up a visit with Nick and Thom as well during that same trip. Nick also had a big hand in showing Tux the ropes as did Thom and Elio. I recommend getting some artwork from Nick; he's a super rad guy and an amazing artist. - - - Updated - - - There's a certain not-to-be-named somebody here that has some great photos of Tux & Thom recently purchased that I've never seen before; I'll let them post them if he/she wants to after that person sees this thread. - - - Updated - - - One of the somewhat little-known people in Bmore worth knowing about is Tattoo Charlie Geizer Charlie Geizer Although his shop has changed hands and is no longer part of the Geizer family the shop is still there (in the red light district, of course)and worth a visit if the old flash is still up. My favorite part of Charlie's shop is the painted screens he had done. Screen painting, an old Baltimore folk art tradition, has themes that are usually quaint country scenes and whatnot but Charlie's screens are HUGE and are Bmore landmarks including 2 (3?) huge clipper ships. They're on the second floor so it's really difficult to get pictures of them. Bunny, you need to get someone to let you go into the offices across the way from them and explain how unique, special and part of Baltimore history they are so you can photograph them. edit; for the sake of a rough idea of what I'm talking about I used google street view. Not as good as actual photos but you get the idea. I also feel compelled to give context of where it's located. For a short period of time as a young lad I worked at what used to be a carry-out greasy spoon where that Subway is now. Memories.1 point -
