Hey everyone, so I got the first session in on my qilin yesterday! Would've posted earlier, but I was exhausted and passed the fuck out after getting some food in me. It was originally going to go on my arm and back but Greg didn't count on my arm being that small and the stencil looked really squished. He talked me into going with my thigh and I'm so glad I listened to him! I was also a bit apprehensive about some things like color, but he firmly (but kindly) put his foot down and told me why my ideas would not make for a good tattoo so I finally canned it and let him do his job. Couldn't be happier with the result!! He's not too sure about the belly color yet (may go silvery blue or golden pink) but the hair will probably be ochre and we'll probably add some peonies in the third session. I could only get through about 4.5 hours before the shaking and shivering set in.6 points

These are my findings: Doing what you want to is cool and never a turn-off for the right person. I surveyed 1 person for this poll. 1 out of 1 agreed. The beardo in the other room would probably agree w/me too though. So let's just say 100% of the tattooed women and bearded men in this house were on board. :cool:2 points -

The general consensus around here is that those tattoos with no black outline will not look good for long and that "bold will hold". I would keep looking. Are you in NY? There's a wealth of good artists in NYC. If you love the way that looks you could always risk it... what were you thinking of getting?1 point

@idyllsend When I was getting my back done, it was basically whatever I was comfortable with. They had no problem setting up the screen. As far as looking out the windows... well anyone peering in the windows got lucky. Reverse bathrobe is the best bet. For me I have a fundoshi and a towel. But I don't really have to worry about covering up boobs. @Ditch Belgium It's all relative. Fresh hits are the worst, but as soon as the area gets used to being tattooed, the pain eases up as you can acclimate to it.1 point

Zillah reacted to geeyouknit for a topic
@deadsp0t – I have a couple, but nothing worth showing. I'm actually here to see if anybody knows of good, traditional tattoo artists in or around singapore. I'm a big fan of the old school traditional style, but most local artists i know of tend to favour oriental/realism styles instead. - - - Updated - - - @Zillah what else did you do besides seeing our silly mascot! I've been to New Zealand too, visited Auckland, Rotoroa, a few other places I can't remember right now. As someone who plays rugby, New Zealand was a great experience.1 point -

Tattooing to be banned in France?
idyllsend reacted to Ditch Belgium for a topic
Hi, Living at the border of France and always being tattoed in a french tattoo artist, I could inform you from my point of view: French state was crazy. In last quarter 2013 they have afraid all tattoo world by suddendly making a law project to cancel 59 of the 153 ingredients used in tattoing inks... New reglementation should have taken place at 1rst January 2014... French tattoo artists and their customers were really shocked as this law is concerning 90% of the tattoing inks. In other words, the tattoers would have had 2 choices if law become elligible: tattoing in black/grey only in their shops or tattoing still people in colours but at home and ILLEGALLY of course... like in the time of alcoohol prohibition in Chicago.. Yeah baby Yeah Reasons to forbidden these ink ingredients were not pretty clear: State is assuming they are carcinogenic.. but no medical evidence tests behind. Finally, a syndicate of tattoo artists went to discuss with the State healthy and Safety authorithies and finally managed to cancel at last minute this law project. They took opportunity to work together and reinforce some dark some like the traceability and ingredients on the ink stickers. I'm so happy this law was not published. Like that, I can still go to my french tattoo artist and perform tattoo in colours.. But this episode had an impact on tattoed people because we learnt that MAYBE, it's POSSIBLE that some ingredients in our coloured tattoo currently in our skin COULD be toxic or carcinogenic .... the only thing is maybe no medical labatories didn't prove it at 100% till now...:confused:1 point -

I was plainskinned when I first met my now wife, but we didn't start dating for a few years after that. She had one small and simple tattoo on her ribs, now has three, all simple outlines, which she loves. I've now got half squidpants (did we agree squidshorts was a thing?), one side of my ribs and both upper arms nearly filled. I feel really lucky to have someone in my life who appreciates them. We have always been supportive of each other's desire for more tattoos, as well as the divergent styles they often take. Today she was talking about a coherent upper arm (thanks @HaydenRose , best term IMO since squidpants) and I would love to go through that process with her. Hopefully one day she will be helping me cream my backpiece! Forget painting a house together, this is the stuff memories are made of 1 point -

I posted something here, and then realized that I really don't want to feed this thread. But the gist is that, as a client, I only really want to see computers assist with tattooing if they're helping an injured tattooer do his or her job. The delete button is my friend.1 point -

I'll see if I can dig up some more wolf pics. That is one of our favorite shots just because it shows how big they can be. Lakota was only a little over a year old when that picture was taken; he is about 5 years old now and still very human-friendly. He lives in an enclosure with his three siblings. We refer to that enclosure as the lickatorium. :D - - - Updated - - - A couple more shots from the same moment. All I can find on my computer. I'll dig up some more this weekend. There are a ton of wolf sanctuaries around the country and most are desperate for volunteers. A little sweat is all that is required in exchange for making a bond with a wolf...or ten. We generally camp about 50' below the pens in an Aspen grove. Few things in this world match listening to wolves howl at the moon right up a hill from your camp. Highly recommended! - - - Updated - - - Here is the video that those shots were pulled from. It was our first visit to the sanctuary. A couple of the wolves are hybrids; Zoya being the prime example. She was actually domesticated and lived indoors for a while, which explains her rotund shape. The second video is more for sound. It was the first night we spent at the sanctuary. Everybody we take camping there, goes back for more.1 point

Hello from London
Ditch Belgium reacted to omeletta for a topic
Hi everyone! I'm German, in my late thirties and live in London. I've got nothing to show I'm afraid as I've got no tattoos as of yet. But I recently realised that all the reasons that kept me from getting a tattoo so far don't seem that valid for me anymore…so I started to do a lot of research and ended up lurking here. Pretty amazed by how much nice and cool stuff is out there. I think I'm mostly into neo-traditional stuff and I've absolutely fallen in love with one particular artist (well, her work, of course) who turns out to be as far as away from me as possible, argh. Looks like it may be a while until I actually get the tattoo I'm dreaming of right now. I guess in the meantime I will continue changing my mind ten times a day about whether to get something else sooner and if so, what to get ;-)1 point -
FST: On the Shoulders of Giants
Hands On reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
It's not Breaking Bad ;) Meaning; it's not serialised. There isn't a story. It's in four parts because each part focuses on a different aspect of being part of FST (or being part of tattooing as a whole) Part One is the close knit family aspect. Part Two is the global 'community' and FST's position in it. Part Three is the people, roads and attitudes that led us to be where we are (wherever that is) and Part Four is focuses on what it is to dedicate your life to something. Each part was designed to stand on it's own. Each one has a slightly different feel. Already the people who've seen the rough cuts of them all have a favourite. Thanks to everyone for the interest. Special thanks to those who bought or rented it. I really appreciate it. The response has been way more positive than I thought. I feel I should say: it's probably not what you expect. It's not a moving gallery of tattoos and it's not an advertisement for tattooing or for FST.1 point -

I think there's a subtle difference between a Swallow and a Sparrow tattoo particulary for someone in the U.K. . I think of a Swallow tattoo as more angular and slimmer and over here it can have associations with someone doing time or a "hard-man" . Swallow tattoo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia1 point

Relationships and tattoos
Zillah reacted to Deb Yarian for a topic
I got married to a tattooist and started tattooing when I was 19. He was heavily tattooed. I am now married to another tattooist who is even more heavily tattooed. I had a brief thing with yet another heavily tattooed tattooist. I think my tastes may be a bit skewed, but I am 50 now, and a heavily tattooed man is my standard for attractiveness. If I was single I couldn't imagine looking outside of my "community" for companionship. That's just what I find physically attractive and has nothing to do with whether I would like someone's personality though.1 point
