Thanks y'all! It was the most positive experience I've had getting tattooed. Yutaro is a real gentleman and very funny, when you know a good soul you just feel comfortable. Also had the joy of meeting Stewart and Valerie who came by a bunch to check the progress, both I can say the same about as Yutaro, just really good souls. A real positive start on a collection of skull and sword pieces :)

This is Leo who we adopted from outside after he got into a fight and another cat chewed up his tail. He got a bad infection, and we dragged his hissing scratching self to the vet. He would have died. We saved his furry butt, but as a result of the fight, he got FIV and then somehow got diabetes. I spent an insane 9 months following an insulin protocol that can reverse diabetes in cats, and I got him off insulin. Now he's my spoiled rotten loving handsome guy.

Spent about 6 1/2 hours at Memoir with Kim yesterday and I think we finished this arm. She did a little more outlining and shading all over, and added a little misty shading background. I love it. Will post healed pics in a couple weeks.

I am not from Japan, Paris born (France), discovered Japan pretty early by myself at 16 yrs and since my early 20's, doing some back and forth for work ever since then. I am actually based in Tokyo, until when again I dont know, so I am rushing Shige to complete everything :)

It's amazing to see so many good back pieces in this thread. I am just at the start of this process. Arranged some time that I can get off work to go and have a consultation. A little over 2 weeks til that and then we will see where it goes from there. Right now though it is an equally exciting and terrifying prospect.

I'll try to put this as nicely as possible: asking for free tattoos is not a good look. If you can't afford good tattoos, do what the rest of us did and make that a priority. It may take time to save up enough to get something good, but it's worth it. Definitely not easy, as most of us can attest, but you'll be glad you did. Good luck.

Those are all nice. I think it's interesting how the Japanese-style phoenix is different from the "rising from the ashes" image from Greek (?) mythology. Also how the dragons mean something different than the Arthurian ones with wings that are depicted as evil not benevolent creatures. Have you seen this site? Tons of great info on there. And here we are again :) Today/tonight was the 4th session, this time 3 hours, I could have gone longer but my artist needed to pick up a guest artist from the airport. Anyway we still made good progress, my other side is now completely shaded as is my right left. Next session we are going to do the rest of the shading on my left leg, and on my ass (ouch! : ) ) and put some black in the clothing, and then we're done with the black and its onto color!

I'm sure a bunch of you saw this all over Instagram already, but Troy Denning started Invisible Radio. It's a podcast, and in episode one he interviews Matt Vancura and Chris Garver. It's a little scattered and kinda awkwardly paced, but overall it's a solid first episode. Worth checking out.

That's a weird one. Seems like both of these issues could be related to your browser session - like it thinks you're already logged in or not logged in w/ the 'like' button not showing up. I guess try logging in and out, or try a different browser next time it happens. Let me know if it persists - and especially if you can let me know how to reproduce the issue so I can try to diagnose. Thanks again for the feedback folks, much appreciated.

I went to Flask Mob on friday at Golden Gate Park. It's a monthly SF meeting/photo-walk for photographers and young creatives. Had a blast. It was raining on and off, but no one minded, and everyone I met was super nice. Got some photos for the zine that I'm working slowly but surely on. Ended up making a mini road trip at the end of the night, down to Santa Cruz. Good times.

A whole bunch of random stuff. Like I said, it was a little bit scattered, so they were all over the place. Troy said he wants to do a "tattooing in the 90s segment" in each, so there was a little of that. One idea that seemed neat but didn't seem to pan out was them watching a Youtube video of some tattoo school thing and sorta MST3King it. But the whole segment just didn't seem to work. I liked the idea, but it was better on paper than in execution. Regardless, give it a listen. Pretty cool.

Hope it's ok to revive this thread from a few months ago. Here's my gorilla on the back of my calf, this pic was taken right after it was finished. Got it done back in Feb of this year, probably time to take a good healed pic! This one was done by Endijs at Chalice Tattoo in Boise. I'd been wanting a gorilla tattoo for quite a while and when I saw this painting of his I knew it was the one I had to get.
