  6. I had the pleasure of hanging around while Taki checked the exhibition yesterday and did his press conference. I don't normally get involved in gallery shows and museums because they usually focus on the paintings tattooers produce which doesn't interest me as much as tattoos but this is and incredible thing for me to be part of. Mostly because of the other tattooers involved. It's a small-ish exhibit as far as museums go but there's a hell of a lot to see. I'm not going to review it, I'll leave that to others, I just wanted to share a few of the photos I took yesterday. I checked with Taki and he's ok with me posting them here but most of all: Photography is encouraged at this exhibition. If you post the shots to instagram, twitter etc. Please hashtag them #JANMtattooshow Enjoy.

  7. The problem is... (and I hate to admit it) but you'll find women with a lot of tattoos will exude and air of confidence and not give a fuck what anyone thinks. However... the more close-minded men that pervade realms of society whether it be the news, TV, movies, etc. with these ideas about women, the more women will be raised into a world that holds that mindset and ultimately, will care. Yes, I have, over time come to accept myself and my body, but I can also say that it took me the majority of my life thus far to reach that point. And even my love for myself is teetering on a delicate tight rope because women are constantly fed (even by eachother) how to feel, act.. what to say and how to say it... what we should or shouldn't put onto or into our bodies. It's disgusting and repulsive when you peel back the mask on what is happening all around us, but it is also so difficult to ignore and not be affected by it when you are raised into the ideals of men. Sorry to get all feminist on you all, but my point is that most heavily tattooed women do not get tattoos to feel attractive, but don't assume we are above feeling "less than". Or experiencing hatred towards our tattoos and our image and being hurt by it and falling into a world of shattered self-esteem. Everyone experiences it in the world we live in and no one is truly immune. Some just learn to roll with it and take it in stride.

  8. Thanks you everyone, I totally love it! The sternum was an 8 of 10 pain wise wasn't pleasant the nipple was a 10 on a mans scale of pain lol but it only lasted like 10 mins... First day we did only 6 hours as we spent like 4 hours perfecting the picture and stencils and by 6 hours of work it was 1am and my Mrs had had enough so we called it. Second day 14 hours! I am considering lasering y Remis piece as letting carlos do my whole front, we have some great ideas for it and the Remis piece just doesn't fit in

    New here.

I'd recommend finding a great artist whose style you love, saving up, and paying whatever it costs to get good work. Break it into smaller sessions if you can't afford it all in one. Penny pinching with tattoos could just land you with bigger tattoos that you don't like. I understand being on a budget, I'm on one, too, but good tattoos are a priority for me up there with mortgage and groceries :-).

  15. I will definitely give a full report, no worries. But it definitely won't be anything compared to actually making it down before it ends @beez. Too bad it's still not exhibiting while SFO Convention is going on. Make it happen, you know you want too, what's rent money? @DJDeepFried, @TrixieFaux, great news. I never thought I'd say that when hearing someone cancel a tattoo session. I definitely plan to be there both Friday and Saturday so I'll see you there. Also @Reyeslv, @irezumi, @Jen Beirola, and all the rest who are going, looking forward to seeing you again or meeting everyone. and @cltattooing, please give us an update about the Analog Show. I really wish I was still living part-time in SF.

  16. Are there way too many feathers, especially on ducks? The body is not a pillow. What's wrong with these warped pieces of poultry that they don't have any concept of what it means to be a living bird? You're not an eagle that rents grass for piles of snakes and crossbones.

  18. Oh no! My post definitely wasn't directed at you. It did spark my brain to post what I said, but more because it seemed like a lot of men had been rallying for women the past 4 pages (which is great!) but I felt what I said needed to be said in general so that people don't do the whole "well since I think women shouldn't be victimized for their bodies I'm helping the problem by saying so." It's like racism... there's a difference between saying your not a racist and actually stopping racism. We can't just assume level-headed women are always immune to this type of slander. I remember seeing a short documentary on rape and one of the interviewees said that she had never met a women who truly loved her self and her body. And that is, unfortunately, so true. And now I'm jumping off my podium. Commence the troll-bashing! Who the hell starts a jack-ass thread and then abandons it? WTF?!

  21. @Lance et al : PLEASE give a full report!!! Pics if allowed!! I really wish I could be there!! Junii hadn't quite yet decided the full dint of her lecture when I was there last week, so I am curious to know what she lands on. So if anyone goes, I can't wait to hear. Hopefully I can get back down to LA before September (and not October, thanks @Lance :p), because I definitely want to see in person. JEALOUS! Definitely meet up if you guys get a chance. @cltattooing and I were just discussing this over in the 'awesome things you've been doing' thread -LSTers are awesome folk. - - - Updated - - - The t-shirt helped ease me over the awkward hump at the Bay Area Convention. Because otherwise you're just people staring at people and that is kind of weird and possibly creepy until the LST connection is made. When I saw the shirt I was able to point and grunt excitedly (i was still awkward ;p) and I think that's how I met @Scott R, @ian and @cvportagee - easily identified by the shirt.

    Hi Everyone

Glad to see forum communities like these exist. I work at a museum and the spare time that I do have I usually draw or photo a lot of graffiti for local graffiti artists. I didn't really get into tattoo's til around 2004 sometime. It had grown on me over the years. I love tattoos. I've met some of the most amazing and talented people who do tattoos in Detroit, New York and @ many Tattoo Conventions. I love art all kinds it's just awesome forums like this is around.

  31. Ha. Sounds like a maths question from a text book "if Lisa has one tattoo on her back that was covered up with a new tattoo and Peter has 2 tattoos on his arm that were incorporated into a sleeve, how many tattoos does Felix have?"

  32. codeword: squidpants  I also wore my LST shirt at the con in October, I don't think it did any good though, haha. Everyone that I ran into from the board I had already met over dinner. Also looking forward to a full report on this show. I'm going to the ATAK show tonight, so I'll be sure to take a boatload of pictures.

  33. Upper arm and forearm aren't that painful and they're pretty easy and quick to heal too, so I don't think it makes much of a difference one way or another when in your trip you get them. I would probably tend towards later in the trip just because New York can be super hot in September and you'll probably want to keep a fresh tattoo covered up, but I think either way is probably fine.

    Hello

Looking at portfolios (mainly Read Street and Paradise Tattoo) it looks like Deirdre Aikin may be best suited for my simple, but geometric, pattern. Anybody here have work done by her? Tattoo Paradise - Deirdre Aikin (I also noticed that Deirdre Aikin is a MICA graduate, and I have some connections with people there...)
