    Hi Everyone!

Hello! I've been following this forum for a good long time and enjoyed reading the threads. I also decided to jump in after 27 years and got a tattoo of a crane while on a trip in Japan from Gakkin at Harizanmai in Kyoto. The tattoo itself took around 4 hours outside of the drawing I think. It was interesting and a good bit painful to say the least, though it wasn't too bad until it got near the end when my skin was just sore. Funny enough, it wasn't the needles that was the most painful at that time, it was the wiping the skin every now and then which felt worse. All worth it in the end! Gakkin did a wonderful job and I absolutely love my tattoo. Here's the picture of my tattoo

  7. Congratulations @Russ though I don't know why you'd want to cover that tattoo up with an LST t-shirt!

  8. Are you saying you are deliberately obtuse, rude and offensive to the tattooers and other workers at the tattoo shop?

    Hi - Newbie from Ireland

Hi folks, Long time lurker but first time poster. Have been learning plenty here since I started paying attention!! Don;t have pics of all my tattoos so will obviously need to get that done asap. A quick run down of my tattoo history is as follows (in chronological order): - Pair of wings by Sean (I think) in Zulu, Dublin (a typical first tattoo, I'll leave it at that...) - 3/4 Japanese-style/koi sleeve by Jani in Wildcat, Dublin (again, in hindsight, probably should have been paying more attention/completed more research!) - Sand timer/roses on inside of bicep by Tyler James Densley in Seven Seas, San Diego - Latin Script by Kris Magnotti, Adorned NYC - Half sleeve on outside of arm by Ross Nagle at Allstar, Limerick. An owl on top of a heart with blood and webbing. - Gramophone on outside forearm by Kim Anh Nguyen in Salon Serpant, Amsterdam - Sugar skull/raven/panther head with roses on inside of forearm by Ross Nagle at Allstar, Limerick At the minute, I only have pics of my 2 Ross Nagle pieces. The Tyler James Densley piece is blurred out in the first pic. The top of the sugar skull looks a little distorted in the 2nd pic because of the stretch in my arm. The Kim Anh piece is on her Instagram, is there any way I can get that across to here?

    Hello

Thanks very much for all the comments and suggestions. I popped in to Paradise Tattoo and chatted briefly with the guy at the front desk and he was very friendly and helpful. I also visited Read St yesterday and they were also great people. Spoke briefly with Alex (I think it was) there.

  15. Allright, so I realize that I've upset some people with some of my comments here. I sincerely apologize for being a dick. I hope that you all will accept my apology. And to anyone who has said anything disrespectful or upsetting towards me, whether you feel the need to apologize or not, I forgive you. I now wash my hands of any negativity I may have put out here, caused others to feel, or otherwise brought upon myself. The drama is over.

    Hello

I've gotten four tattoos at Tattoo Paradise and can highly recommend the shop! Scott M (who doesn't work there anymore but is guesting there sometime now or very soon) and Dave Cavalcante have both worked on me. It's a clean shop and the guys and gals are fun.

  25. Hi everyone, introduction time! My name is Esther, 19 years old, proud owner of only 1 tattoo at the moment, and currently spending day to day life in Ireland. I came to this website to share my enthusiasm for tattoos with artists and admirers alike. Although I currently only have one tattoo and my second one planned for a to be determined date (read: money issues) I also admire the art of tattooing and wish to inspire myself by talking to others who obviously share this passion. I have a small portfolio in the making which doesn't include a lot of proper stuff yet. (Rather, it has a bunch of random scribbles) My hopes are that I can get inspired through everyone's words and pictures and train my skills even further. I guess that is all I have to say for now, below you will find a picture of the tattoo that prides slightly above my left breast.

  26. I agree with Sophistre. I looked into covering my tattoo with make up as I am into costuming and sometimes will wear costumes that reveal my tattoos if they're not covered in make up. So far, I've only tried it once, but I gotta say the result was good, but at the end of the day the make up was all blurry and sticky due to excessive sweating and movement. Nevertheless, I saw the video before and it was a really cool thing to see him transform like that.

  27. Ross actually talked me into the webbing. I wasn't totally sold on the idea at first I have to say but delighted I agreed in the end, it fills off the piece perfectly Sent from my GT-I8730 using Tapatalk

  28. Ugh, he is so ridiculously good-looking. And that video was amazing. But speaking as someone who puts make-up on on a daily basis just on the face, I don't think it's really viable to plan to do that over a large area. It's not easy to get coverage that full, even with a heavy product, and keeping it 'set,' especially in humid weather, would be pretty much a nightmare. It's a neat option for smaller things, but even then...anywhere that clothing makes contact you'd get a lot of transfer.

  29. Then you will no doubt have an absolutely killer tattoo at the end of those 2.5 hours. Should be a good size tattoo as well, as Scott is very fast.

  31. You can be disloyal to the guy you work with--assuming you aren't married to him. There's a whole wide world of amazing artists out there...but only limited skin space and cover-up-ability...

  32. If you know that you like a certain group of images, then you might want to just email him that and give him free reign on the actual design. It's an awesome way of getting a really great tattoo, especially if you trust the artist, as you mentioned that you do. He'll most likely pick two or three of the images and draw something rad. Do you mind my asking who you are getting the tattoo from?

  33. I think this is the right place to put this question. I am going to travel about 800 miles for a tattoo in April (Seattle to SF). I made my appointment over the phone and placed a deposit. I was able to be fit in for two and a half hours on the day I could be there. I was told I could email ideas and references to the artist but I said I would just show up early and pick out flash. I have seen numerous tattoos the artist has done and all of it is beyond amazing. My question is would it irritate the artist to simply tell him when I get there that I like daggers, skulls, snakes, roses, etc. and tell him to do whatever he wants and can finish in two and half hours? I am really looking forward to the experience of being tattooed in that shop as much as getting a badass tattoo. I also have room on both legs above the knee so size/placement shouldn't be an issue.

    fix or cover-up?

If everyone here, including several well-rounded tattooers, are giving you the same advice worded slightly differently each time I would have say that the answers are not going to get much different. Telling people that they are wasting their time and effort trying to give you sound advice in a thread asking for advice just because it's not what you want to hear is kind of a dick move. All in all, the BEST advice here is to go into a shop whether it's this artist or a different one, and go with them. We have given you some ideas and advice and that was the point of your thread. Take it from here and seek out a consultation in person with an artist.

    Tattoos and the workplace

As a fellow nurse, I have to agree with @KegRN, I also have a concern for my patient's comfort. Most of the patients I see are in their 50's to 80's and if I came walking in with 2 full sleeves, they aren't going to feel comfortable around me, which means I can't do my job effectively. I would rather sweat my ass off wearing long sleeves at work (which I never ever do by the way) than offend my patients. I feel if I told my patients to deal with it and came of as a dick, I'd probably be further feeding into their presumptions about tattooed people. I don't see any problem covering my tattoos out of respect for others as an impedance on my rights. It's called being considerate. And I also agree with @Graeme as far as keeping my tattoos a secret. The tattoos I get are for me, no one else.

  41. @BrianH you're 27???? I did not realize! @iowagirl - I do like challenging people's expectation of "who" tattooed people are. Although I am still very conservative about this myself, and non of my colleagues nor my students know that I am tattooed (at least not to my knowledge). I remember making small talk with a colleague last year about one of her grad students, and she went on a whole schpiel about how bright this young woman was, but you wouldn't believe it to look at her - she was all tattooed and weird-looking! Who knew that someone like that could complete a worthwhile dissertation? I had to try really hard to keep a straight face.

  45. Remember reading someone, somewhere, saying that every time you get a tattoo you should ask yourself why it's not a dragon. Don't have a dragon myself (plenty of space left though) but it seems like valid advice!
