    Boom.

Oookay...was going through storage and found this pic of my Korean white tiger by Chris Trevino in 1995. My first tattoo! Sorry I haven't updated my gallery yet...in the works. Thanks for strolling down memory lane with me! And also, @hogg, I was in Austin from 1993 to 2000...wouldn't it be weird if we knew each other?!

  2. Short time lapse video I made of a painting a few nights ago... decided to try to do a rose to fill up a scrap piece of Arches, with no pre-drawing or sketch of any kind. Also, I forgot my real webcam, so it's 240p. To top it all off, a bad Instagram photo... I need to be a better documentarian.

  3. A few of us from our shop in South Carolina came out for the SFO show this year and what hospitality! Got a crazy psychotic Ren from Ren & Stimpy on my outer calf by Jeff Rassier after a discussion about the show and animation. Great tattooer and a great experience all weekend! Scott and everyone at Black Heart were very open and made us feel at home. That shop is full of top tattooers who are also incredibly down to earth...an amazing combo

    Boom.

Love myself some awesome tattoos. Stoked about what is happening in the world of tattoo these days...amazing refinements of already awesome traditions and a lot of next level evolutions in technique and subject matter. Can appreciate all forms and styles. Prefer to wear more western traditionally styled work with a bit of Asian/Asian-influenced stuff thrown into the mix. BUT I still have A LOT of spaaaaaace and we all know how that goes :) ...anything could happen! I am both blessed and doomed to live in the Bay area of Northern California with tooooo much access to some of the most talented folks out there. Am definitely not above traveling overseas or who-knows-where to get work from someone who has caught my fancy. Celebrating (being in) my 10th year of marriage to my Hubbs with a tattoo odyssey that we have both been enjoying since January of 2013. First two tattoos from Chris Trevino (Perfection Tattoo - Austin) at the tender ages of 20 and 26 (late 90's). Getting tattooed right out the gate by someone who has put so much into their craft taught me more about tattoo than I think anything else could have and for this I am thankful. I love having tattoos. It has been such a great experience. I love hearing about other peoples tattoos. I want to be surrounded by tattooed people and their tattoo stories :o . Upcoming appointments are Horitomo in January, Theo Mindell (Feb-March), Stewart and Valerie (late April-May). Will take pictures of existing work and upload soon. I am pretty darned stoked and glad to be here. So thanks in advance, everyone, for that! :D

I think a well tattooed hand is te best thing ever, a sign of someone who can draw well and is a great artist. My man Marcus does amazing hands.

    tattoos of hands

I agree. Hands make for excellent tattoos. I have a small tattoo of clasped hands on one wrist and a hand of glory on my leg. The hand of glory was done by Chad Koeplinger last summer.

  16. Hey there, just dropping a line into the initiation thread real quick...my pseudonym isn't very creative :)...my name is Lenny Sandvick, I served an apprenticeship under Steve Gold and Spike Bieganek from Steve's Tattoo in Madison, WI. I have worked between Steve's and Spike-O-Matic Tattoo since 2006. I joined this blog to be a part of the larger tattoo community and since I heard this forum was put on by Scott, I had to join after my fiancee and I had a really good experience with him in September 2008. I got a skull and top hat and she got a flaming grenade. We'll try and post pictures soon. I'm just really thankful to get to do this job day in day out and am really excited to be a part of this great forum so as to get a deeper insight into our history. The videos are too good. I enjoy painting flash, hanging with my dogs and fiancee, and travelling to get tattooed and work, namely at Chinatown Tattoo in philly and Hero Tattoo in Conway, SC. Many, Many thanks to Steve and Spike, Braden, and Jeff and everyone who's tattooed me or let me tattoo them. Hope you'll have me, sorry it got long. Thanks again!! take care -Lenny

  17. I saw these donkeys on the way home from work the other day, seems like kind of crappy dry place to have to live IMO,not sure how well they are fed & watered,so we bought some fresh carrots, cabbage,& apples and brought that and some water down this morning and fed them the treats,as soon as we pulled over on the other side of the street they started walking over to us,so it appears we are not the only ones who do this ! LOL very cute & very friendly.I will keep carrots with me from now on and do this again for sure. . . . . . . . this is my favorite pic

  19. Wow @RScott that sleeve is amazing!!! And @Synesthesia that rabbit is looking so nice! Here's the fox I got yesterday from Ron Wells, tough to get a good photo. Was supposed to fly in, get the tattoo, and fly back out last night but due to the snow storm I'm now stuck in NYC until tomorrow. So getting this little guy has turned into an unexpected vacation / adventure / chance to hang out with old friends.

    Ukiyo-e

First I just want to get a rant out of the way. There was a picture of a tattoo done by Mike Rubendall posted on a tattoo community, and the comment's really annoyed me about how it was badly done, messed up face ect... It was a typical Japanese style tiger that looked great. Everyone is, of course, entitled to their opinions about their favourite styles but the ignorance of these people got to me a bit  Tattoo enthusiasts should really know about the influence of Ukiyo-e and Japanese tattoos. Anyway I thought we could have a thread to share some of our favourite Ukiyo-e pieces. This was the piece by Rubendall, and a Ukiyo-e tiger.

I love Guen Douglas's tattoos of hands. I'll definitely get this image someday as it's so easy to incorporate an idea into it (if that makes sense).

  27. I hope they make the exhibition catalog available to the public online/mail. Otherwise I would ask a big favor of anyone attending to help me grab a copy. I saw what look like a sneak preview of it on FB and it appears to be a bound hardcopy:

  30. What kind of style are you thinking of? Because when I think of tattoos in magazines I think of super realistic portraits of Jim Carrey as The Mask, and I hope that's not what you came here asking for.

  31. Bit of a long shot but I don't suppose anyone can get a better look at what is wrapped around the bottom of these sleeves? I love old school Japanese pictures. On another note I have decided to leave my sleeves as they are, I don't want to ruin the composition of what I have. I do love the look of the Juzu beads though, so will be concentrating on getting them incorporated around my neck when I get my chest and back done. Thanks for the input!

    New and Nervous

I guess this is a little of a derail but here goes anyway, I think those shows may be a part of it for some, but I also think a lot of people just love talking about themselves and attaching meaning to things. Before those shows existed, people attached meaning to their tattoos. It's human nature and symbols hold meaning. Some people are just a little sappier with the meanings they attach than others. And some more literal. But yeah, agreed: meaningful or devoid of meaning, or anywhere in the middle does not determine whether it's going to be a good choice in a tattoo. Just takes a good skilled artist to have a great, satisfying, and worthwhile tattoo.

  43. For now it's a case of looking at a body part and thinking "that spot looks naked"! For example I was sitting down the other day and just happened to glace at my feet. For some reason my right foot looks naked right now. I'm sure once that's done my left foot will need something.

  44. This is a photo taken by my friend, @Iwar, right after Marius Meyer did a hell of a oneshot on me. I was almost dead, at least very close to fainting. Haha! See a better picture of it in the august contest. The front is just a collection of good and bad tattoos. Some day the owl is going to taste the laser..

  46. I am digging these pictures that show more than one tattoo at a time. Good idea! Here are my arms. I plan to add to the right arm...filling it out to match the amount of coverage on the left. The owl is a little out of place. ETA: oh darn @Iwar...forgot to wear my fundoshis. I have several pairs. Pairs? Yeah next time for sure.
