  2. Frank Carter, Frith St. He drew this on in quite an awkward space between two pieces on my leg. Super nice guy, had fun getting this one. First time in Frith Street! And I robbed this picture from Frank's Instagram btw

  3. Wow @RScott that sleeve is amazing!!! And @Synesthesia that rabbit is looking so nice! Here's the fox I got yesterday from Ron Wells, tough to get a good photo. Was supposed to fly in, get the tattoo, and fly back out last night but due to the snow storm I'm now stuck in NYC until tomorrow. So getting this little guy has turned into an unexpected vacation / adventure / chance to hang out with old friends.

  5. The latest tattoo I did on an Asian guy that had quite the out look on life. He studies Noam Chonsky and was a Marvel comic book nut. Its fun getting to know people during a tattoo though many dont talk much so its a nice change to get to know how others live thier lives.

    Upcoming Tattoos

@Graeme YES! Wish I had the funds for my back (reserved for Yoni) now, alas I do not! Upcoming for me: on Horitomo's list for my CA trip in April/May. We'll see if I get in, I really, really, really want a Monmon cat. Don't know where I'll put it if I do get in, maybe on my thigh.

  7. Finished up this piece with Martin Lacasse at Olde City Tattoo in Philly. Based off of a Yoshitoshi print from 28 Famous Murders With Verse. Couldn't be happier.

  8. Excuse the awful picture, I'm out of town visiting my boyfriend and had to use his phone to try to get a pic. I'll have to try to get a better one when I get home. Had this done yesterday by Jason Reeder. This is my second piece from him, it's on the inside of my right leg (he did an owl and mouse for me on the outside of the same leg). The ears KILLED and that was by far my most painful tattoo experience thus far; it might be hard to tell from the pic, but they creep up to the side of my knee and the back one almost goes into my knee ditch. I thought this would finish off my leg, but I have a patch of open skin on my shin and the back of my calf is still open, so it looks like I have some more work to get done before the project is finished. Probably throw some moths in some of that space, and Jason is trying to talk me into getting a bat, we'll see. :D

  9. Tattooing and photography are totally different skills. The most powerful tattoos can't be adequately photographed because magic is resistant to photography.

    Butterfly Flash

I do love a good butterfly tattoo. I was talking to a guy who is planning to write a book on the history of tattooing and we got into a discussion on butterflies and masculinity. He laughed and told me that he thought a guy getting a butterfly tattoo in this day and age was almost asking to get beaten up. He is not particularly dialed into the scene. I rolled up my sleeve for him to reveal my SJ butterfly that I picked from a book of Jerry flash at my local shop. I love it and it has never for a moment posed a threat to my masculinity (however it is that I may wish to define it.) Edit: This was done by Glennie at The Pearl in Toronto. She has a much nicer pic on her instagram feed, if you were to scroll back the better part of a year.

  16. Info is starting to come out about Pagoda City Tattoo Fest, organized by Justin Weatherholtz (Kings Avenue) and Joe Johns (Wizards World of Tattoos). It'll be just outside of Reading, PA in early August. Instagram is @pagodacitytattoofest and it's putting out some names of people who will be there. It's shaping up to be a pretty good one.

    Geek Tattoos

A quick search around on the forums here produced nothing so I thought I would start this thread. Basically let's see all your geek tattoos from fossils to crazy lizards as well as computer games and circuit boards to the tree of life. Anything that could be counted as geeky/nerdy or anything in between. Unashamedly I am a bit of a geek about a few things. Anyone that knows me will tell you how excited I get about rocks and I think it's something to be celebrated. So I will start off by referencing my own ammonite tattoo that I have up in my gallery. Interesting and cool tattoos of any sort are always fun.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I am new to tattoo's and the choice of artists in NYC is overwhelming. Seems like the well known popular artists each have their preferred styles, subjects and turn down work if it doesn't interest them ? Seeing Yoni's work, it looked like his style fit what I am looking for and I believe he has a well established reputation for quality tattoos. Easy to reach and quick to consult. Booked for April. I did not find much information about Cheo Park and his background, but his tattoos look great to my amateur eyes. Maybe he is new to NYC, flying under the radar, among the many quality artists in NYC not getting a lot of attention or I am easily impressed since I am new. He was easy to reach and consult. Booked in 2 weeks. I'll be sure to post my tattoos from both.

    Scary Stuff in Today's News

Ha! Certainly not - overall. Generally in respect to physicality - often, especially when regarding rape. Actually, I'm sympathetic with both your and your Mom's views, but I'm more in line with her strategy of "broad spectrum" solution. Healing human nature can and should be tackled from all angles - but I'm more inclined to believe that raising a new generation of humanists who think and act ideally will enable mankind to evolve into something respectable much faster than trying to chip away at restoring what's already broken, ingrained and imbedded in our current foundation. Well there. Solved the world's problems this afternoon. Guess I'll go and find a cold beer to celebrate :p

  24. I really hope so too, here's to quality profiling. Son, I know you did not just call women the weaker sex ;) But yeah, people are shitty to each other, to the planet, to animals, to themselves, to their loved ones, to basically everything. I fully believe that our conditioning in regards to entitlement and disposability is to blame. I struggle a lot with my feelings of helplessness in regards to how humanity is systematically destroying all life known to us, and then I come back to my previous sentiment on how nobody can really change anything or anyone but themselves. So there it is. And also, in regards to specifically talking about women, rape is largely a crime committed against women. Although, rape of men does happen and is talked about even less, which I find to be really disturbing. I think a lot of that goes back to how western culture treats femininity and vulnerability, which are traits innate to everyone and largely viewed as undesirable in men. Like think about how many times in your life you have been told to "man up." Like what does that even mean, tangibly? It serves no other purpose than to belittle and silence someone. My mom talks about being a humanist instead of a feminist and it bothers me. Not because I think that being a feminist is better, but because I think that to try to tackle a broad spectrum of problems before addressing smaller disenfranchised groups can overshadow very real and demographic-specific problems. Anyway, I hope that answered your question. Thanks for contributing to this discussion, I think it's a really important one to have and is not had often enough.

    Upcoming Tattoos

Consult with Yoni Zilber yesterday. He will be doing an octopus on my right shoulder. Anderson Luna never responded. Found another artist, Cheo Park at East Side Ink. He will be doing a whale shark on my left shoulder. I like Anderson's work and I might persue him again in the future. Just was not in the mood to chase him down for what I am currently looking to have done. Judging from his instagram page, it looks like lady heads are his preference, which is not what I am looking for right now.

  30. Thats not true , @peterpoose 's work gets much love. I like realism , I have some myself. I think this is a place for all tattoos . The great thing about this place too , even if we don't like the style everyone recognises quality. (and no spell-check I refuse to use a Z in recognise!!!)

    Upcoming Tattoos

Sometimes the best way to make a decision is by not making one at all! My right forearm is still open and I want Yoni to tattoo it to finish my arm off. I don't know when that will be because I'll need to figure if I'll be financially able to get a fairly large tattoo while saving for/working on my back or whether it's something that I'll have to do after my back is finished, I'll need to work out travel plans, etc., but his tattoos are so beautiful and powerful and delicate and I want one. I don't know what my opinion counts for here, but he's one of my favourite tattooers. Between me getting basically a sleeve and a half there and my wife getting her back done there, we've spent a lot of time at Saved and so I've seen a lot of Anderson Luna's tattoos and he's amazing. He doesn't put a lot of his work up on the internet, but he does knock-you-on-your-ass tattoos. The pictures of his tattoos don't really do them justice. He has that combination of beauty and toughness perfectly dialed in. His script is, in my opinion, some of the best out there. So yeah, you should totally get tattooed by both.

  34. Cheers :-) Alright then, there is still loads to go, even just planning certain bits out we haven't finished yet, need to get the fingers finished, bloody loads to go on the lantern, try to fit the background into the Jess Yen work on the left thigh, then put lots of sweeping hair across the face - but here's our start! Will be full colour in the face/hand/lantern, and loads more black in the background. Will take quite awhile, trust me! I will update as we go if people are interested, cheers :-)

Came to post this Sailor Jerry sheet: - - - Updated - - - Is that on the inside of your elbow? If so we are twins, and my friend got one at the same time (Mine from Mario Desa and his from Nick Colella) in pretty much the exact same location. Also notice the rose tattoo on the elbow and the cutesy folk bird near the armpit, I'm clearly concerned about my masculinity and being tough. Sorry about the terrible photo:

Cool thread! That first piece is killer, but her right hand and left arm looks a little bit strange to me. Maybe just the picture, or maybe just me... I don't know. The piece as a whole looks really bad-ass though! Most of you have already seen my front piece, but I found a better picture of it on Marius' blog a while back, so here's to those who haven't seen it already (sorry about the insane size of the photo)
