    Full Back Piece Thread

Here's a fully of the progress so far, not just butt teasers from Dana's Instagram (though no one was complaining.....). I had a little fun and struck my best rear "relaxed" pose from my bodybuilding days. My internet personality is way more interesting than in real life. But hey, we're all just in it for the "likes" anyhow, amirite?!

  4. Gonna ignore everything wrong with the post for the moment and focus on this statement; don't start off with 'all I can show you is my early work'. Sorry but nobody cares (by this I don't mean us here at LST) a whole lot about what you did years ago; impress someone with what you've been doing lately. If you have nothing recent to show then it doesn't seem like its a serious enough commitment to spend 200% of your extra time and money into a career. On that note, I sense less of a passion and note of a 'business' perspective. That's the biggest fail of anyone trying to 'break into the business'. If you're not ready to live and die in the chair then it prob ain't for you. There isn't any retirement plan for tattooers; either you work until you're dead or you due from some fucked up social disease. You ready to smell people's dirty ass feet? Be a foot any from some gross stinking armpit sweat for 5 or 6?hours at a time? Breath in aerosoled blood all day? Lot less glamour than what's shown on TV. Spend every free dime getting tattooed and every free moment drawing tattoos. Pastel portraits are nice but doesn't mean shit as far as basic tattooing. Get sleeves if you haven't already. Spend every dime at the shop. Best advice.

  5. Excuse the awful picture, I'm out of town visiting my boyfriend and had to use his phone to try to get a pic. I'll have to try to get a better one when I get home. Had this done yesterday by Jason Reeder. This is my second piece from him, it's on the inside of my right leg (he did an owl and mouse for me on the outside of the same leg). The ears KILLED and that was by far my most painful tattoo experience thus far; it might be hard to tell from the pic, but they creep up to the side of my knee and the back one almost goes into my knee ditch. I thought this would finish off my leg, but I have a patch of open skin on my shin and the back of my calf is still open, so it looks like I have some more work to get done before the project is finished. Probably throw some moths in some of that space, and Jason is trying to talk me into getting a bat, we'll see. :D

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

This past summer, I was sitting on the bench at Congress St tattoo, waiting for Chad Koeplinger to finish up the appt before mine. Turns out he was running a bit later than I initially thought and it was going be a little while till we could start. Soooo, I took advantage of the extra time and had Jebb Riley start a pretty huge panther coverup. Honestly, while I had been planning on covering up an older tattoo that I have, I didn't approach Jebb with that idea initially, but rather I just wanted get a nice medium sized tattoo by an artist I really liked, while I waited for Chad. After looking at his very awesome sketch book, I saw a really awesome little panther, and well, one thing led to another, and I couldn't be happier. The night of my appt with Chad, he just lined the panther. This past Saturday he added the roses (love them), and did most of the shading. 4 and 1/2 hrs, and not all of it peachy :) One more session to go for some more shading and color. Jebb is an awesome dude, and I had a blast getting this tattoo. btw- initials were clearly there before, and spared during the coverup (hoping to have him clean them up the next time) The actual tattoo getting covered is a medium sized celtic knot tattoo from about 20 years ago. It was done well initially, then I made the mistake of having someone else touch it up. It was scarred and screwed from then on. SORRY ABOUT THE SAGGY PANTS!! I was a mess at the end. ---fixed pics! Thanks @MadeIndelible ----

  13. Hey Folks, Just wanted to share my experience from a few years ago dealing with contact dermatitis after a new tattoo. Back in late 2011, I had started a thigh piece on my left thigh which covered basically almost the entire front and side of the left thigh. After a couple of days, I developed a bunch of red spots on the back of my thigh, all outside of the tattoo itself. It wasn't a localized rash as it ran up and down the length of thigh and was in random areas but nothing on the ink itself. My artist unfortunately was just doing a guest spot locally and returned to his country. Best I could do was send me him pictures and even he was puzzled to the point where he recommended I see a doctor. But before seeing a doctor, I luckily had the benefit of three very good friends to contact. These were old college friends, all of whom were pharmacists and have encountered all types of ailments. One was even tattooed, so I called her first. She hit the nail on the head with her initial diagnosis. She asked if the spots were small and if any had popped and oozing clear serum. When I confirmed, she knew it was contact dermatitis. It basically happened because my skin is normally sensitive and was subjected to the trauma of tattooing. Add to the fact I normally wear briefs and switched to boxers to be comfortable and let the tattoo breathe but by doing so, added new cloth material contacting an area that was already irritated. Plus the shaving and the tape holding the saran wrap in place didn't help either. The fix? Good old Benedryl, both in pill and topical cream format in over the counter form. Within a couple of days, all the spots cleared up. More info on contact dermatitis from WebMD: Contact Dermatitis Causes, Symptoms, Treatments, & More I know everyone wants their tattoos to heal up without any issues and try to be diligent about aftercare. I know I do and sometimes verge on madness since it is a permanent investment in my eyes. I did myself a huge favor by getting to know my own body and what works with it. There's no one true formula or cure all that's ideal for everyone. Speak to your artist and the shop management about their recommendations for aftercare and then turn it into your own personal regime that suits you. Ideally, if at all possible, share your experience with the tattoo community so that others can benefit from your experience. Cheers.

  14. it would be completely fucked up for you to get a piece finished by someone that didn't start it. regardless of them "reaching a certain level". if you're going to a quality tattooer and you sign on to get work from them, you have to see it through unless you're unhappy with the work for some reason. going to someone else to get a piece finished just because you don't want to wait is about as disrespectful as it gets. don't get tattooed if you're going to pull some bullshit like this. people have no respect for tattooing anymore. this isn't a situation where you buy your xbox at target and buy the games at wal mart. this type of attitude pisses me off. why get tattooed by a given artist to begin with if you're going to have someone else finish it? just go to that motherfucker in the first place. whoever you choose to go with be sure they're who you want. book a couple appointments at once if it's large scale work and make the commitment the same way your artist makes the commitment to apply the work to your body. I've had this happen to me more than once not because a client couldn't wait but because they didn't want to pay my very reasonable hourly rate to get the work finished. they'd get their boy down the street to "color" a piece I drew, lined and started. this type of shit will earn you a punch in the mouth if I see you in public.

@Mark Bee @TrixieFaux I guess we'll just have to wait until we retire! My principal is pretty cool about my tattoos, but I also keep them covered during the school day. I coach track and XC though, and I'm always in shorts and a t-shirt. He comments on most of them positively, but I don't have anything crazy. If I got some sort of topless pinup on my forearm, that might present a problem. Haha.

    Geek Tattoos

A quick search around on the forums here produced nothing so I thought I would start this thread. Basically let's see all your geek tattoos from fossils to crazy lizards as well as computer games and circuit boards to the tree of life. Anything that could be counted as geeky/nerdy or anything in between. Unashamedly I am a bit of a geek about a few things. Anyone that knows me will tell you how excited I get about rocks and I think it's something to be celebrated. So I will start off by referencing my own ammonite tattoo that I have up in my gallery. Interesting and cool tattoos of any sort are always fun.

  25. Oh I am sort of jealous of you fitness dedicated folks. The holidays totally sucked that away from me and into piles of homemade cookies that are still circulating through my house. I'm not even sure how that's possible. Too many... That being said, I did just get back from traveling in Israel. Woo! That's the view of the Dead Sea, looking towards Jordan from the top of Masada.

  26. This was done on the 16th of January. I'm the owner, the artist who did it is Dano, from Black Cat Tattoo in Schwerzenbach ZH, Switzerland.. Fresh after getting stabbed to death and back to life.

  27. Was at the shop yesterday to get a Leopard head. Here's what Dano, the artist, came up with. Needless to say I was stoked, even tough it wasn't what I originally had in mind. However its over 9000 times better than what I had in mind and I was very open to suggestions. Which I think he appreciated, you could tell he had a lot of fun doing it and during the smoking breaks, he was constantly checking it out thinking about it. He said while tattooing he's in another dimension. Soo... bold will hold, here's the finished tattoo right after getting stabbed:

  39. Wasn't mine either, to be honest. But what I had in mind looks good on paper but not on skin, and since my artist likes this style the most I said fuck it, and went with it. Meaning I fully trusted him that we will deliver something awesome. And he did and I do not regret in the slightest.

  41. Please don't take this wrong.....I am not meaning to sound like a bitch...but tattoos do not make people have anything in common with each other any more than you both having brown eyes! I think the longer you have been a tattooed person, the longer you have had to deal with people just walking up to you wanting to discuss your tattoos and even walking up and touching your tattoos! I am very willing to accommodate most people who want to do that as long as they respect my boundaries........ I mean it's cool to think of us all as one big family BUT 15 years ago it honestly was much more a family than it ever will be again because so many people are tattooed now! Also....a visibly tattooed person is a person (in my opinion) that can no longer hide the fact that they are tattooed by pulling down the sleeves on their long sleeved shirt! Hands/knuckles....necks....face! Everything else can be covered with clothing so heavily tattooed....yes.......visibly tattooed......not in my opinion until you can no longer hide them! I think it's great people are getting more tattoos and I guess it's cool that they seem to be more acceptable now.....but I rarely walk up to someone and talk to them just because they are tattooed....

  43. My experience here is limited to what I've seen pictures of on the internet, and I'm not sure we're talking about exactly the same thing either, but I've seen pictures of 20+ year old black and grey Brian Everett portraits that still look fantastic. You'd never be able to tell that the tattoos are the age they are. So realistic black and grey done well has the potential to hold up and look great over a long period of time. In any case, I think the attitude @peterpoose has towards his tattoos, which is that they'll last as long as they last, and in the meantime he's getting tattoos that he's excited about and enjoys getting is something we should all feel about our tattoos.
