  1. My experience here is limited to what I've seen pictures of on the internet, and I'm not sure we're talking about exactly the same thing either, but I've seen pictures of 20+ year old black and grey Brian Everett portraits that still look fantastic. You'd never be able to tell that the tattoos are the age they are. So realistic black and grey done well has the potential to hold up and look great over a long period of time. In any case, I think the attitude @peterpoose has towards his tattoos, which is that they'll last as long as they last, and in the meantime he's getting tattoos that he's excited about and enjoys getting is something we should all feel about our tattoos.

He's there right now. Just texted me. Seemed pretty stoked. The stencil fit first try even though all of their pre-planning was done via email. Me: I can’t wait to see the dragon’s face! DJDF: It's sick. Just like I imagined/wanted. I am just as excited about him getting a new tattoo as myself. I'm so selfless. :D

    Upcoming Tattoos

I'm looking for a black & grey ocean animal theme on my shoulder/upper arm. An octopus, eel, jellyfish or squid but with some unique patterns, symbols and additional elements. Maybe a dagger, skull, necklace, etc.. Something original and different. I went to NY Adorned and Saved Tattoo. Both shops said to contact my artist of choice direct via email. Waiting for an email response from Anderson Luna and Yoni Zilber.

    Lady Heads

Someone else posted work by Anderson Luna. Here are a few more. My wife is not the jealous type, but I don't think she would like it if I got a tattoo of a woman. Never the less, Anderson's work is very impressive.

    Legends

There were multiple portfolios of rubbings and paintings to flip through as well that can't be shown here. Heart-stoppers, seriously. Same with some of the (quite unexpected & a real treat!) landscapes. I picked one up of his view of the Huddon River valley and mountains beyond, but it was a tough choice. There were others that had such powerful bold strokes it made me have to stop for minutes. Sometimes the simple things can be the strongest. Not sure if the other people attending knew that almost everything had paintings and drawings on the backs. You have to lift the boxes to look at the back of them, and the wooden flash as well. Hands-on interaction. Also not shown is the fruit crate box full of the wooden flash (not for sale unfortunately) to flip through. Anyone that didnt see those really slept on some gems. Maybe next time I'll have enough to make an offer on something that isn't for sale. For now I can be thrilled with the landscape and an eagle that I picked up.

  12. If we're talking about tattoos without outlines then yeah they will break down (relatively) quickly; even Gogue says that his work doesn't really last longer than 10 years under the scrutiny of how we expect them to age.

    New Tattoo Design Ideas

In all honesty I think it makes a better t-shirt than a tattoo. No offense intended, merely professional advice.

  16. That still works out to $500/hr, which is still pretty ridiculous. And as if just nonchalantly mentioning "regularly" spending $5000 a session (plus travel fees) didn't seem enough like trying too hard, you also imply someone is a pussy if they can't sit 10 hours. Wow.

  17. Got my walk in at Frith Street yesterday. Happened to get Oliver, he was an absolute gentleman, was a really nice experience overall. If any of you guys know the shop, Dante, Jordan and everyone else were hanging out joking, was so chilled. And I came out with a perfect tat :)

The sheer amount of art was overwhelming, I had to pace myself. Luckily I went Friday afternoon and it was pretty slow. I also couldn't afford to pick up anything, but the man is so prolific it's not like I won't have another chance.

    Coverup/Removal

This is my first post but I have been getting tattoos for over 20 years. So just thought I would offer my opinion since I am currently getting some laser done to remove some cartoon tattoos I got on my forearms when I was 18, now 39 years old. I would have a discussion with your tattoo artist and see what he/she can and can't do. The one thing I would say is don't get a specific cover up because it is the only thing that will cover properly, if you DONT really dig the cover up design. Sometimes they simply need the tattoo lightened up in order to achieve what you want. The old measure twice and cut once saying applies more to getting tattoos than woodworking in my opinion......I am spending a good deal of money to remove some not so thought out decisions I made when I was 18 and hit up the local shop on walk in day.... If you need to do some laser to end up with what you want on your arm for the rest of your life...bite the bullet and do it if the artist says it is needed.

  31. I don't know, there are so many images that could represent love or family--and you would know that it represented your adoptive parents and the love and respect you have for them without being limited by that flat design. A cluster of roses, for example, one for each of you... or, well, the possibilities are endless.

    good client behavior

just wanted to throw in my personal "outlook", "experience", whatever... I started out as THAT dude called it a gun not a machine. Thought I knew everything when I didn't know S#!@. But I was a fan kept getting Knowledged asked the rite questions. stopped the Rediculous demands on how I wanted MY tattoo to look and went with the flow. Now out the Respect and Loyalty I learned early on in getting tattooed. the bennifts to becoming that "Ideal customer" are my tattoos are way cooler because I do Give free range to the artist and keep my demands simple. Example: I want a unicorn with a dagger. the artist goes and draws it. Is it what i had in my head? No. But guess what its a unicorn with a dagger non the less. and for me personally sometimes not all the time but sometimes i don't get charged what they should be charging me which is a bonus in my book and I know a lot of cool industry stuff like the term porkchop. is it the coolest thing to know? No but to me its awesome! So thats my little tid bit.

    New and Nervous

that's such a good point,LA & Miami & NY Ink & Ink Masters & all the TV crap isn't what it's always about, very few of my many tattoos are not "meaningful" to me other than good art or just a cool tattoo ! not that there is anything wrong with a "meaningful tattoo",I do have a couple that are that too.

    New and Nervous

Sorry if my post sounded hurtful. Not my intention at all. Ask and you shall receive? I wasn't describing your situation just thinking out loud. My real point was that your situation and tattooing seem like a big roadblock and maybe it's time to accept a tattoo may not be in the cards. Especially if this is the only one you intend on getting. And a lot of people on here (myself included) get "random inconsequential design"s so.... meaning isn't always everything.

    Chest/Torso Tattoos

I got this gorilla & rose situation from Chad Koeplinger last Friday at the Montreal Art Tattoo convention. Believe it or not this was done in an hour and a half of tattooing! He actually broke a mag shading needle partway through. I've never heard of this happening before, but seemed routine for to him. Chad's a super nice guy, and made this a fun experience. He'll finish it up early next year, when he comes back to town. I'm super stoked!
