  1. My experience here is limited to what I've seen pictures of on the internet, and I'm not sure we're talking about exactly the same thing either, but I've seen pictures of 20+ year old black and grey Brian Everett portraits that still look fantastic. You'd never be able to tell that the tattoos are the age they are. So realistic black and grey done well has the potential to hold up and look great over a long period of time. In any case, I think the attitude @peterpoose has towards his tattoos, which is that they'll last as long as they last, and in the meantime he's getting tattoos that he's excited about and enjoys getting is something we should all feel about our tattoos.

    Upcoming Tattoos

He's there right now. Just texted me. Seemed pretty stoked. The stencil fit first try even though all of their pre-planning was done via email. Me: I can’t wait to see the dragon’s face! DJDF: It's sick. Just like I imagined/wanted. I am just as excited about him getting a new tattoo as myself. I'm so selfless. :D

    Upcoming Tattoos

I'm looking for a black & grey ocean animal theme on my shoulder/upper arm. An octopus, eel, jellyfish or squid but with some unique patterns, symbols and additional elements. Maybe a dagger, skull, necklace, etc.. Something original and different. I went to NY Adorned and Saved Tattoo. Both shops said to contact my artist of choice direct via email. Waiting for an email response from Anderson Luna and Yoni Zilber.

    Lady Heads

Someone else posted work by Anderson Luna. Here are a few more. My wife is not the jealous type, but I don't think she would like it if I got a tattoo of a woman. Never the less, Anderson's work is very impressive.

    Legends

There were multiple portfolios of rubbings and paintings to flip through as well that can't be shown here. Heart-stoppers, seriously. Same with some of the (quite unexpected & a real treat!) landscapes. I picked one up of his view of the Huddon River valley and mountains beyond, but it was a tough choice. There were others that had such powerful bold strokes it made me have to stop for minutes. Sometimes the simple things can be the strongest. Not sure if the other people attending knew that almost everything had paintings and drawings on the backs. You have to lift the boxes to look at the back of them, and the wooden flash as well. Hands-on interaction. Also not shown is the fruit crate box full of the wooden flash (not for sale unfortunately) to flip through. Anyone that didnt see those really slept on some gems. Maybe next time I'll have enough to make an offer on something that isn't for sale. For now I can be thrilled with the landscape and an eagle that I picked up.

  12. If we're talking about tattoos without outlines then yeah they will break down (relatively) quickly; even Gogue says that his work doesn't really last longer than 10 years under the scrutiny of how we expect them to age.

It was really cool to check out the Devita show this weekend. I wish I'd had the money to pick up some art, but no such luck. There was some incredible stuff there.

In all honesty I think it makes a better t-shirt than a tattoo. No offense intended, merely professional advice.

  16. That still works out to $500/hr, which is still pretty ridiculous. And as if just nonchalantly mentioning "regularly" spending $5000 a session (plus travel fees) didn't seem enough like trying too hard, you also imply someone is a pussy if they can't sit 10 hours. Wow.

  17. Got my walk in at Frith Street yesterday. Happened to get Oliver, he was an absolute gentleman, was a really nice experience overall. If any of you guys know the shop, Dante, Jordan and everyone else were hanging out joking, was so chilled. And I came out with a perfect tat :)

    Lady Heads

Well, I see for the most part that there's alot of lady heads now, even by lesser known tattooers, that have the same look as Conn ladies, which of course influenced Vargas and Xam ladies... I think it's just a shift in aesthetic. There's something very captivating about the eyes on these ladies, and their popularity seems to be spreading. Hell, I even have a lady head who looks somewhat in the same vein. In all, just seems to be a shift towards what I think will become the new standard for lady head tattoos, though the real traditional looking ones will probably continue to be popular.

  29. Get a tattoo of animals fighting. Big cat versus snake is always a winner, but any combination of big cats, snakes, dragons, eagles is always badass. Representing struggle that way I think is way more visually powerful and makes the point a lot better than a pair of complimentary half sleeves based around vague ideas.

    Dry healing

I've been using the pumping hot water way of healing for a few years myself. works a treat. Steaming hot towel wash down directly after application. Pumping hot shower (along with ice cold cider) as soon as I get home, washing it down with a body wash. I only apply a dot of cream for any hard healing areas, mainly is creases or on the hands.

    what's it mean?

The main questions I've had about my lady head are: Who is she? Why do you have a massive womans head on your leg? Fortunately she is based off a character in a book series I love so I can just go with that. My next tattoo is going to be a deer head wearing a big fruit hat, so I have no idea what I'm going to tell people when they ask what that means, haha! I'll think I might have a bit of fun and make some stupid shit up. This thread is giving me lots of good ideas. Hate the questions about cost! So rude!

    New and Nervous

that's such a good point,LA & Miami & NY Ink & Ink Masters & all the TV crap isn't what it's always about, very few of my many tattoos are not "meaningful" to me other than good art or just a cool tattoo ! not that there is anything wrong with a "meaningful tattoo",I do have a couple that are that too.

    Chest/Torso Tattoos

I got this gorilla & rose situation from Chad Koeplinger last Friday at the Montreal Art Tattoo convention. Believe it or not this was done in an hour and a half of tattooing! He actually broke a mag shading needle partway through. I've never heard of this happening before, but seemed routine for to him. Chad's a super nice guy, and made this a fun experience. He'll finish it up early next year, when he comes back to town. I'm super stoked!

    Rotary vs. Coil

Do what you gotta do to get through it man no judgement...shit hurts sometimes. I was just talking with my buddy yesterday while he was tattooing me about rotary machines and he said the guy he used it on healed in like 3 days and said it was less painful. I proceeded to ask why the fuck he wasn't using it on me then haha.
