  1. Got my walk in at Frith Street yesterday. Happened to get Oliver, he was an absolute gentleman, was a really nice experience overall. If any of you guys know the shop, Dante, Jordan and everyone else were hanging out joking, was so chilled. And I came out with a perfect tat :)

  3. I got this from Josh Adams a few months ago. I love it but it healed up a little weird in one spot (between the hands). It's probably just cause I already had a dry skin patch right there and never noticed until it was tattooed. I just set up an appointment with Frank William in a week and a half and I am stoked.

    Upcoming Tattoos

While @huggernaut and I were at the Devita show, I booked a slew of appointments with Grez to start my left arm. It won't be for quite a while, so for now I'm trying to not think about it. Hahaha. I do still have a few things between now and then, though.

  6. Get a tattoo of animals fighting. Big cat versus snake is always a winner, but any combination of big cats, snakes, dragons, eagles is always badass. Representing struggle that way I think is way more visually powerful and makes the point a lot better than a pair of complimentary half sleeves based around vague ideas.

    Upcoming Tattoos

He's there right now. Just texted me. Seemed pretty stoked. The stencil fit first try even though all of their pre-planning was done via email. Me: I can’t wait to see the dragon’s face! DJDF: It's sick. Just like I imagined/wanted. I am just as excited about him getting a new tattoo as myself. I'm so selfless. :D

I'm not sure what happens when you lose weight. If I get a stomach tattoo I'm getting the Pillsbury Dough Boy, that way it will always look right!

  15. My suggestion would be to find a tattooer who's style you're really into and ask them the same thing, as a client its okay not to be creative, there's a reason these people are paid to create art. There are tons of great artists in New York to choose from, I'm sure someone here can suggest someone who you'll be more than happy with.

  22. Cheers :-) Alright then, there is still loads to go, even just planning certain bits out we haven't finished yet, need to get the fingers finished, bloody loads to go on the lantern, try to fit the background into the Jess Yen work on the left thigh, then put lots of sweeping hair across the face - but here's our start! Will be full colour in the face/hand/lantern, and loads more black in the background. Will take quite awhile, trust me! I will update as we go if people are interested, cheers :-)

  26. Not for me, but my wife booked with Martin Lacasse at Olde City Tattoo in Philadelphia for a geisha 3/4 sleeve at the end of the month. He did her other arm a few years ago and she's been itchin to get this one done for a while. It's the same weekend I get done by Ron Henry Wells, so that'll be fun.

    Introduction

Just a quick intro, 24 years old and have been interested in tattoos since my mid teens. Have been getting tattooed for about 3 years now by Jun Cha. In the process of getting a left arm sleeve, a right arm forearm sleeve and a backpiece from Jun, if anyone knows anything about him you also know that this will probably take me 10-15 years to complete. Love all tattoo styles but have a particular interest in black and grey/chicano style. Have joined the forum to discuss tattoos with like minded people, especially those who have travelled far and wide to get tattoos from artists you love. Regards Josh

    Introduction

Hi I'm Dano and I've been lurking on this thread for about 4 months until I decided to join and contribute. I'm from Milwaukee, WI. I've lived here all my life. I have already been tattooed, but thanks to sites like this, I've had a flood of ideas and tattooers that I want to get work from. I have 3 tattoos including a fu dog covering my left side with 2 peonies. It was done by Rachelle at Serenity ink here in Milwaukee. Talented artist if your in the area. I also have a traditional style anatomical heart with a treble clef on my sternum (my first tattoo) and my Irish family crest on my arm both done by Julio Avila at solid state tattoo. He's one of my favorite artists, although when I got my first tattoo, I didn't know shit about American traditional or about tattoos so I'm just relieved it was done by a great artist. I'm hoping to travel all over the country to get tattooed. If I could ever get the chance, I would love to get a couple tattoos from Uncle Allan. If anyone has been tattooed by him in the past, I would love any information you might have. Does he come to the states at all for conventions?

    Coverup/Removal

I agree with @HaydenRose here. Does your existing tattoo wrap all the way around your forearm? Either way, you could go from your shoulder down, blend it with your existing tattoo, and then do something like HaydenRose pointed out the other day in the blackwork and dotwork thread and do geometric patterns as background in the negative space. Probably the best thing to do though would be to find the tattooer you want to do the rest of your arm, and talk with him or her about whether your existing tattoo could be incorporated into something larger, whether you should laser it, or whatever.

    Introduction

Hayden, Jun's pieces are the only ones I have..I followed his progress from my mid to late teens and basically said to myself I'm going to get tattooed by him no matter the time or cost. His super hard to get accepted by and given I live in OZ his also really far away and really expensive comparatively... So far I'm happy with the process/tattoos and I highly recommend him to anyone interested in B&G..

    Thick black outlines

I can't find the post right now, but somebody here posted a video of old NY/NJ tattooers sitting down and talking and they said pretty much the same thing about line thickness. The one tattoo I have from an old guy (ie he's been tattooing over 50 years) is done with thin lines. I also have some really thick lined stuff on me, it's a much larger tattoo though. That monkey Jesus looks like it was made to get Instagram likes.

  44. Not one on myself, but one I put on a good friend recently. He came home for New Year's to surprise his family, and drove three hours to surprise my fiancée before she went home to Ireland. I was the only one who knew of his plans, and thankfully he avoided all the snow issues. Inside of the knee/thigh... or the No Fun Zone.

  47. Me and @Pugilist got matching tattoos again. This is from Doc Forbes flash and was done by Chris Hold at Sacred Heart Tattoo in Vancouver, BC. It was a super fun one and Chris was a great dude to get tattooed by. Couldn't be happier with the tattoo and the whole experience.

  49. @hogg @slayer9019 I didn't say anything out of respect for the guys at the shop and because it isn't something that I was ready to advertise. Right now I just work there and do anything that anyone wants me to. I am basically the shop bitch. The understanding with everyone is that if they feel comfortable with me and feel like I have earned being there, they may offer me an apprenticeship. I don't know how far off that is, nor do I care. I do everything I can to help everyone who walks in and everyone who works there. Right now, the opportunity to learn to tattoo is secondary and my responsibility to the guys at the shop and the customers is first. I intend to protect and cherish the tattoo world I have come to love. I believe the way to do that is not to expect handouts or free information. Everything is earned and I want to earn anything I get.
