  1. Some recent stuff: this was my end of the trade with Olivia. We decided to use her birthmark as a nipple. And then this was a medical illustration of a humerus bone. This is actually on a dude who is from the same town that I apprenticed in. It was pretty nuts actually, he told me that he had gotten work done at the shop I was at, and turns out he had a tattoo that I had drawn for my mentor to use. Small world..

I wouldn't have said Halloween. I would have just let us assume you always wear a sparklymask. Life is more fun with a sparklymask.

    Hand Tattoos

All-time favorite is on a friend of mine, mostly because of how silly it is. What do gorillas think about? Bananas, duh. By Drew Rash. Additionally, here are three I've seen on Instagram recently that I've loved. Another Tim Hendricks. Squeezing a readable ROA on there blows my mind. Grez. Does it get better than classic roses on a hand? Grime. And to totally tweak out the classic rose, a rose skull morph.

  6. hahaha so yeah totally not anything I'd "planned" in my head. Blue peony upper right arm. Will do a pic when I get home and get it uncovered. Did some more planning for more work on the area too..

wow great pics everyone. @Graeme "squidmitts"! Hah! I don't generally seek out dotwork so those Jondix, Weisbeck, and Hooper hands are completely blowing my mind right now. Amazing! Unfortunately if I am ever able to get my hands done, it won't be for several decades. But in the meantime, here's a couple more on other people. Rich Hardy Grez

I like Uncle Acid's Bloodlust a lot, the new one is similar-ish? I also youtubed some Blood Ceremony, songs from the new album, and I like it.

  15. At least 4, maybe 5 of mine, when I walked in the door for my appointment I had no idea what I was getting. The rest I had an idea ("how about a dragon?") but I've never seen sketches or anything ahead of time. I like it like that, I like surprises! :)

  17. What is your aftercare routine? I scabbed bad when I tried healing with ointment (aquphor, etc) and dry healing. As a result I have some large patchy areas on my first tattoos :( but I think I only notice because I can inspect my tattoos all day long and can find at least one healing "imperfection" on all my tattoos. It was very frustrating so I switched to rewrapping the area in plastic wrap every 8 hours for the first 2-3 days. Ans have had great success so far. Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

  19. Remember reading someone, somewhere, saying that every time you get a tattoo you should ask yourself why it's not a dragon. Don't have a dragon myself (plenty of space left though) but it seems like valid advice!

  20. I've done it and I think one of the super fun things about tattooing is walking into a shop not really knowing what you want and getting something that feels right at the moment. I'm thinking of trying to get a walk-in somewhere next week when I'm visiting my parents. Spontaneous tattoos rule.

  24. Yes it was with dry healing and lotion. I normally re-wrap for the night after the tattoo, I guess I'll wrap the following 2 nights as well and make sure the area stays soft. I never really got in to aquaphor. I just use Neosporin combined with hand lotion. Thanks for the input. Hopefully it works for me.

Yep, Rhode Island or New Hampshire. Strongly leaning towards Rhode Island at this point for a number of reasons, and me and @Pugilist have talked about including a visit to Boston as part of the trip. No firm plans made yet, mind you. A New England LST meetup would be great.

  33. I got started on this tattoo by Ron Henry Wells last while he was guesting at Tattoomania in Montreal and we'll finish it at a later date. Sorry for the not great photo, it wraps a bit so it's tough to get a good one. As always, it was a real pleasure to be tattooed by Ron, and the Tattoomania crew were very gracious hosts. I love tattoos.

  38. I spoke to another Veteran at my work yesterday. He was pretty covered, and out of curiosity I asked him politely where he got his tattoos (or pieces of crap, as he called them) done at. He couldn't remember the artists who did most of them, but he pointed out two specific ones. He told me that he got two (on his outer biceps) done by Charlie Wagner in Portsmouth, Virginia. He told me Charlie mixed the ink with his spit then said "tattooing has changed a lot from those days". I wish I could have spoke with him a little more, but I didn't want to keep him from going about his day.

  43. This one will be a bit photo heavy... First one is on a fellow who came in and got a family crest on his forearm, said he got this 30 or so years ago early in his time in the military, but couldn't afford the lettering the first visit. He had to go back a two weeks later to add it. Second one is on a guy who came in from meeting my dad at the VA. He got his somewhere in Kentucky, also early in his military service. The rest are on the fellow I mentioned earlier who got his in 1964. If I recall, the Hot Stuff was in Chicago, the hula girl was in Hawaii, and the rest were either Hawaii or San Diego. The last one is the only one we couldn't easily decipher... theories were mostly a heart/banner/leaves design, or a sparrow.

  49. It is interesting that 222 will always be revered in the same was Realistic was, Scott did the roses on my neck in '99 I do have an Eddy story tho, I grew up in Sydney Australia and came to SF for the first time in 1992 and seeing Tattootime 5 and also a few traveling peeps with Eddy work he headed the list of people I wanted to get work from, of course my taste was pretty different to what Eddy was doing at the time and I had my buddy draw up a tribal arm design for me. So if it wasn't the first day I was in SF it was the second my naive 21yo legs marched down to 722 Columbus Ave North Beach and it was 11.55 entered the shop and there is Eddy mopping the floor with some scruffy bum watching (of course that turned out to be Dan Higgs) but alas did not see that they had not turned the closed sign around, so they informed me they were not in fact open yet which kind of made things a bit uncomfortable because I just waited outside and twiddled my thumbs for 5 minutes until they turned the sign around. Its funny because I did not end up getting tattooed there because of that (I went and saw Leo Zulueta in LA and he did the work for me), and I think I just wasn't ready but I often think what I would have ended up with if I let them go to town I sill think that early Tattoo City kinda set the style for the world to follow, now that I am pretty well covered I realize that it shaped me to do the research first to get good tattoos and I have traveled all over to get them. I did try to get an appointment in 96 with Eddy but this was a few months before 222 opened and he was busy with getting that together, so I had pretty serious coverage by the time I saw him in 2006 and he blasted on the mask in record time and this year he did some windbars with flames on my belly tying together the work on my legs to my front so all good things come to those that wait! -Duncan
