  4. Here is my latest. Done on Tuesday by Aaron Coleman (Immaculate Tattoo, Mesa AZ). I asked for a crawling panther plus "whatever, as long as it's fairly traditional". Got a sword and some roses and I am extremely pleased of course. Done in only 2.25 hours as I mentioned in the 'fastest tattooers' thread.

  22. I can't seem to post links very easily from my wife's iPad - but I am a fan of Joe Ellis (Sacred Electric in Leeds, UK). He was an apprentice when I first became aware of him a couple years ago. For a sample of his work check out my Rock of Ages in my gallery.

  27. I've noticed a lot of tattoos in video games recently. In GTA5 there is a tattoo shop that allows you to purchase some designs, but most are reserved as rewards for completing game content. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErTGryhsOAU The game overtly links tattooing to criminal behaviour. (Pull off five heists, get a chest tattoo, etc) I admit I'm not too fussed about it. And I'm looking forward to getting more than one in-game tattoo. Today I found this YouTube clip for Assassin's Creed 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQXEX13frvE It seems to be called the "tattoo trailer." I thought it was interesting that it seems to feature more traditional style (ish) tattoos than other games which generally focus on black and gray or realistic styles.

  30. My family is Jewish. And though we're not religious, my dad still tries to take it pretty seriously. It's against the Jewish religion to get tattoos, and if you get one you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery. That's my dad's main argument against me having tattoos. But personally, being only 20 years old and considering myself agnostic, I'm not too concerned with where I'll be buried right now. I have heard that a Jewish person with tattoos could still be buried in a Jewish cemetery though, but they have to peel off the tattooed part of the skin. And interestingly enough, there are many young Jewish people, especially in Israel, who are getting their grandparent's/great-grandparent's concentration camp numbers tattooed in order to never forget the Holocaust. This has had mixed reactions. Some say it's good that the younger generations remember the Holocaust and their relatives who either survived or passed away. But others still want to stick to the traditional Jewish values and see getting the number tattooed as demeaning and a way to strip a person of his or her humanity. But if you change the meaning for yourself and see it as a symbol of strength, it can be a great commemoration.

  33. I didn't set out to get sleeves, it just kinda happened. I started at the top of my shoulder and every few weeks or months I'd head in and get something new. I had a couple of much older tattoos to work around, but they didn't prove to be a problem. I thought I'd have to get them covered up, but the people at The Pearl talked me out of it - I'm glad they did. In fact, everything they told me has been confirmed by the advice I've seen others give here. After a while I realised that I needed some help figuring things out. I set up an appointment with Tim and we mapped out a series of small/mid sized pieces, that still left room for some fun little filler pieces. I think @clatattooing 's advice is great. We each do things our own way, but there are some underlying principles that if we are open to hearing good advice, will serve us well. Good luck!

  34. No, that makes perfect sense! Your work very much looks your own. They were just very small things that got me thinking, like the way you move some strokes, your saturation, and shapes/movement. I think it is cool when you can visibly note influences, it kind of provides a window to the artist's tastes and who they are outside of the art. It's also totally inevitable for influences to show through anyone's work and doesn't even necessarily imply copying. Anyway, your paintings are great and I would totally be interested in prints if you make any!

  39. Greg Whitehead, Scapegoat Tattoo, Portland OR All pinched from his instagram. @cltattooing humility is a great thing, but from what I've seen, you're killing it too and should be included here. That Pharoah's Horses you posted in the tattoo of the month contest this month is a great tattoo period, not just great for a young tattooer.

  43. I used to live in Long Beach, so of course I'm biased. Port City, Dark Horse, Spotlight for starters. If you're willing to trek to Orange County you got Gold Rush, Torch, Sid's. If you're ever in the Valley, you got JoJo Ackerman's spot in Santa Clarita. Tons and tons of options in SoCal.
