  1. Have not posted for a while but had to show my new piece off! Done by the very talented Valerie Vargas

  2. Greg Whitehead, Scapegoat Tattoo, Portland OR All pinched from his instagram. @cltattooing humility is a great thing, but from what I've seen, you're killing it too and should be included here. That Pharoah's Horses you posted in the tattoo of the month contest this month is a great tattoo period, not just great for a young tattooer.

My wife got a bit more work done on her back. Started some shading and coloring. A bit dark up there because she is covering up a righteous old piece! - - - Updated - - - I got a bit more work done too. Getting close.

  5. In the storm of crap, sometimes it's nice to recognize the newcomers who are doing well and give us things to look forward to for the future of tattooing. Here are some tattooers who have been at it 5 years or less and are doing some really great work. Feel free to add! Not just yet. We still have various spikes and the back bone (horns/scales?) the horns on the head, the tongue and teeth, the eyes, some more flames, the pearl/orb and the spikes on the tail end. I'm sure there will also be some touch ups and embellishments as well. Funny thing, Rubendall had a client in the morning and he was filling in scales on a dragon and then in the afternoon is me and...filling in scales on a dragon. I asked him if it gets tedious or if he just gets tired of seeing the same thing. Mike said he loves it and each one is different. No cutting corners or trying to make due here, just doing what he loves. AMAZING to be part of that creative process.

  8. I definitely agree. You are nailing it, Carolyn. Richard Smith did this cool ass reaper on my thigh, and he can't be older than 25 or 26. As a 24 year old, I enjoy getting tattooed by people close to my age. When he put this on me he said he had been tattooing for two and a half years.

  11. ...so on wednesday i flew out from germany to poland to meet up with one of my favorites, rich hardy. he started my back piece...and i`am more than glad that i chose him - i`m absolutely in love! one the one hand it was such an amazing and satisfying experience for my mind but on the other hand it was so horrible for my body. i wouldn`t call myself a pussy when it comes to tattooing but this time i was almost ready to start crying and stopping this whole thing; but somehow i made it through. :)

  13. I am a stout appreciator of the holiday season. My house smells awesome, the shop has christmas lights up, and we're getting a little tree! I have also just put an end to a really unhealthy relationship that I've been engaging for like 6 years, and while part of me is sad, the bigger part is like FUCK YEAH, I'M FREEEEE

  14. Sorry for the huge pictures, but yesterday we spent the day in NYC and saw the Rockefeller Center tree and saw an amazing Broadway show. I'm not a big Christmas guy but I'll admit there's nothing like NYC during the holidays.

  15. Paul Aherne is a really good, young, Dublin tattooist (About the only one in the city I'd recommend to people actually). I would hazard a guess that he's been tattooing for a bit longer than 5 years, but I think he fits the brief for this thread all the same. He's a street shop tattooer in the sense that he seems to be able to have a stab at anything, from traditional to Japanese style to tattoo portrait. Instagram

  16. I have a black and grey tattoo on my arm and I plan on filling in the rest of my arm with color tattoos. Kind of the opposite of your situation. Basically, moral of the story: get the tattoo you want. Your artist will be able to make them look cohesive and not out of place next to each other.

Friday the 13th tattooing at Kings Avenue!!! Sorta... Short 4 hour session today with Mike Rubendall at Kings Ave in Long Island. It's been freezing cold in NYC and I braved the train ride out to Long Island to continue work on my back piece. Added more color to the dragon. Here's the report. Enjoy! Alpha Omega original hanging in Rubendall's room. Details and colors are AMAZING!!! Straddling the chair and about to throwdown: And the results from today's work: Really digging the vivid colors: Slowly coming together: And of course I couldn't go home without grabbing these. I have a copy of the Fingerwave Book which these prints were made for. Saw the original hanging in the shop. LOVE the waves and happy that I own some Rubendall waves on my backside, hahaha

Hello and welcome to LST. You should take the advice of your tattooist. That's the sort of tattoo that looks cute on pictures on the internet but it will in no way hold up.

  29. December is a month that I get more cancellations than any other and that means a lot of spare time for me.. I find myself up til 4-5 in the morning, painting or drawing til either I get sick of that or I've had enough beer to put me out. Sometimes neither and I find myself at a junction of just painting really shitty, watching Dracula movies til the sun comes up..

  38. We've done a few at our shop... the first one was in the summer of 2012, and we had a decent volume of people, about half new and half repeat clients. Several of the new folks have since been back a few times, one of them every few months to add palm sized pieces here and there. The second one was this last October, and we were barely busier than a normal Friday. But, of the two of us doing them, there were only two or three people that weren't regular clients, and they came with someone who was. The first one was mainly to get new people in the door, and the second one was more to try and thank our customer base. In those goals, we seemed to be decently successful. That being said, we don't intend to do them every Friday the 13th, because we'd prefer doing it as an occasional fun sort of thing, rather than a gimmick.

Here is my Backpiece from @Stewart Robson started in London at FST November 2011. Did sessions in New York at Saved, SOG 2012, FST again in March and July 2013 and complete this past weekend at SOG. So between 2 continents, 3 cities and 60 isn hours this part of the journey is over. The piece is in the process of extending down the thighs and that will be completed at the end of November. Then we begin the front, have the subject picked out and stewart will be taking traces of me today.
