    Who made this tattoo?

I love this tattoo, and it is one of the first large Japanese tattoos I was ever exposed to, and I would like to know who did it! The woman is Shoko Tendo, a woman who wrote a memoir about being a yakuza boss's daughter. I have not read her book (I was searching for more info about the tattoo when I found her name and stuff), where perhaps she reveals this information, and I have only done a very cursory search and comparison of signatures to tattoo artists I already know. So with that all said: does anyone have any info? Drop some knowledge on me!

  5. This thread contains pictures of German SS Officers tattooed by Christian Warlich . I think we are all sensible enough thats there's no need to address the Nazi equation , after all if I didn't mention it ,its not apparent . Anyway thanks to kind permission by Bill Loika heres a rare glimpse of some great old pics.

  6. I don't think age should be the criteria. I think any prospective tattooee should have to pass a common sense and maturity test 1st. Same goes for having babies or "owning" pets. Naturally, some people would be plain-skinned, childless and lonely forever.

  10. I got my first tattoo on my 21st birthday -- late-January 1972 -- while on leave after finishing USArmy AIT, before reporting to my first duty station: Fort Richardson, AK. I didn't get any more ink until I'd finished my military service and drifted back to the Ft. Benning, GA area, where I met Louie Lombi, who'd recently opened a branch of his mentor's shop -- "Big Joe" Kaplan, from Mount Vernon, NY. Louie began sleeving me between July 1976 and December 1979; then I emigrated to Israel (!) and fell out of contact with him. We got back in touch in 2001, when I was in South Florida for a computer course (sent from Israel), and found that Louie had relocated to Greenacres/Lake Worth, FL, where my mother lived, and opened a shop of his own: Louie Lombi's Tattoo Paradise. Small world. I finally left Israel summer of 2004, and returned to South Florida. Louie finished my sleeves, and another artist in his employ, "Painless Jimmy" Hankins. Jimmy eventually did my chest, shoulders and "sleeved" my lower legs, ankles-to-knees. I need a new photo -- this one's missing the bluebirds (PS: the women's heads were done in Columbus, GA by the late Jack Armstrong, in 1977... sponge-in-a-jar) My shins and calves (missing the wrap-around sides) (Statue of Liberty outline done on July 4th, 2006, and all work on both legs was finished in late 2008) And feet... (summer of 2009)

  13. I think the higher you raise the age, then more people under-age will find ways of getting it anyway and with higher risk. People are getting tattooed by their "friends" for cheap or free already, if the age restriction on tattoos is higher than 18 then kids will still seek out tattoos but without the option of clean, professional shop. I think alcohol is a prime example. Teenagers in high school and college are like pre-adults and want to drink and have a good time. If it's not legal, they will still get it somewhere and usually over-do it without proper education aside from "don't do it".

  19. Just got this croakin' hypercolour lizard yesterday: by Teddy Kardos IG: teddytattoos Teddy is doing a guest spot at Shades of Grey in Edmonton, AB. He works in Newcombes Ink in Halifax, NS under King Len Langille. He is also the lucky(?) bastard that wears the infamous full torso reaper made by OllieXXX. We had a great time doing this technicolour bearded drago! Stay tuned for next week...I have a 9am hallowe'en appointment to get a pretty epic neck/collarbone piece hehe (!!!). Saw the sketch this morning and WOW I am pumped. Very exciting month tattoo-wise for me.

    howdy y'all from brooklyn

hey everybody, I'm alex from brooklyn. I have two pieces so far, one on my forearm and one on the underside of my arm. I'm planning on getting a chubby pin up from Ashley Love soon as well as a wolf head. This forum's wealth of tattoo history is amazing and I'm very glad I found this place. here's what I have, sorry that these photos are fresh and not healed, the red in the first one has calmed down a bit but it still does look like her ass has been freshly slapped by eli quinters at smith street tattoo and by jeremy whitely at thicker than water cheers

  23. My iron and protein concerns never go far. ;) Let's see: Today is payday, which is cool. Had a four mile run with my 70 year old dad, 8:15 minute miles. Took the cat on a peaceful woodland walk and had oatmeal with raspberries after. Came to a conclusion about a family member that I've got to cut her off; she was literally screaming at me I was a no good trouble-maker while I was GIVING her money. I was going to give her an ultimatum to remain in my life, but she can't be trusted. I have to learn (like my stupid, stupid father) that people don't feel the way I feel, and they don't care about the things I care about, and love, honor, and fidelity don't mean much to a lot of people. I don't want those people in my life, regardless of genetic connection. Talked to Mr. Muscles. It's nice caring about someone in terms of a relationship, not looking over my shoulder, worrying if I'm being used. It's comfortable. It's a nice feeling. I have to pop into a meeting today, and I'll get my schedule for November at the same time. I'll text my artist after this and schedule getting the other thigh done so it can heal before my trip with Mr. Muscles. The left leg looks just beautiful.

  24. I decided to extend my trip to Chile in the coming spring to also include Japan, New York and Barcelona. Feels like a very exciting decision! Except for Barcelona I know people that I can stay with :) edit: that is, if you want to go from Japan to Santiago you need to transfer some place, NYC is the cheapest. To fly back to Europe it is less expensive if you land in Barcelona. Basically I get three more destinations for the same price as my original plan. Nowadays I make sure to plan my trips out with Rome2rio: discover how to get anywhere, very practical!</shameless plug)

Lance is correct on all fronts including the spelling of the artists name . I have the book too and I enjoyed it , it's available online for little expense and not hard to get through so I would recommend it .

    Old tattoo photos

Ooh, lovely! @clatattooing A couple more Bert Grimm 'cause I love him so 1918 - - - Updated - - - Oh, and does anyone know anything about these photos? Found them uncredited on line but they look maybe Burchett-y to my untrained eye. Pretty sure they're the back nad front of the same man - - - Updated - - - Ah, he was here already all nicely coloured in: Was WRT the fab suggestion that Captain Elvy should be the new standard of male beauty, which would be Very Nice Indeed. Although, as a Laydee I'd vote for Painless Jack Tyron any day. Am a bit of a Prof. Wagner groupie though mind :o.

    Old tattoo photos

Hell yeah! The only reason I say I think that those are the artists is because they aren't credited in the book. I am just going on style alone, but I'd be pretty surprised if those guys didn't do those backpieces. Just so killer, each one is so strong in its own right.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I'm so excited for everyone going to the convention this weekend. Take lots of pics! Balls to the employment news @real meta . @beez /waves hand: "you are perfectly healthy. You will not get sick."" On a side note. I emailed Adam Guy Hays about starting a back piece. Even though he's on vacation in Japan (getting tattooed by Horiyoshi 3, the dirty bugger), he has taken the time to message back :). He seems down, and apparently might even be doing guest spots in the pacific northwest next year, which would be rad to cut down on the traveling I would need to do. My wife also got an appointment with Whitney Fromm for some sunflowers and almond blossoms on her shoulder (in June 2014). This will be the misses' first/most detailed/involved tattoo. She has just a few simple, small pieces. She was rather amused at how excited for her I was.

    Who made this tattoo?

Ha ha @beez! Actually, I just bought the book because of the photos of her tattoos. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. It's in my "to read" stack. Sad right? Absolutely. But I've heard it's good unless you're a yakuza-phile. It's about her life not details into yakuza underworld. So I've also heard wannabe yakuza romanticists are disappointed. You're in good hands with Junii so you're doing it right!

    Upcoming Tattoos

I had said to myself that I wouldn't do any more tattoos at least until the scottish convention, perhaps not even until my planned trip to New York in the spring.. BUT then I got a text yesterday from a swedish tattooer that I respect a lot, asking if I wanted to get a discount tattoo from him so he could work overtime on friday instead of waiting around for a concert. Aaaaand that's how good I keep my promises to myself! So Friday evening now spells "tattoo of Joakims left foot". We're going to do a rendition of one of my own drawings that he likes a lot, he even wanted to get it tattooed on himself. I am slightly scared, I hear it's a horrible spot.

The dagger goes through a tattoo from Alex Binnie, which is his version of the first tattoo I had done over 40 years ago.

    Too fast?

Im almost always in a 2 or 3 piece suit (suit with a vest). I could probably go everything but hands, face and neck but I do like to roll up my sleeves so i would probably stick with 3/4 sleeves. Oh yea everyone on Wall St. rocks shirtless. It mores goes that I travel globally for my job (consultant) and need to look "normal" under their definitions.
