    Thank you

Now that the dust has settled and things are getting back to normalcy in mine and my family's life and the lives of the crew at Great Lakes Tattoo I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of not only myself but the crew and ultimately Great Lakes Tattoo itself. It has been an amazing last few months and the support and acknowledgment of the shop has been overwhelming and very humbling. The shop is something that is a part of all of us who walk through its door everyday. It's shows the dedication of not only myself and crew but the behind the scenes dedication of my wife and family. We invite everyone to come through the shop either to get tattooed or just to see it. We are very proud of it. Thank you. Nick Colella Great Lakes Tattoo

  4. This event will showcase Jon Reiters entire Dietzel collection which is the foundation for his two books on Amund Dietzel. If you missed the show at the Milwaukee Art Museum this is your opportunity to see it in a more up close environment. The opening night party and opening weekend will be an event to raise funds for Jons hospital bills due to some recently discovered blood clots in his brain. All proceeds from the Dietzel tattoos done that weekend will go directly to those bills. This is a chance for people to pick off the actual flash that hung in Dietzel shop in Milwaukee. We will also be selling both copies of the Dietzel books as well as event Tshirts and limited edition hand screened prints. Opening night will also have either a raffle or silent auction from various tattooers and other artists donating work. Please stay tuned as more details become available. Thanks Nick Nick Colella Great Lakes Tattoo

  6. Wife and I are working out a contract to help a national guards man out by renting his home for 2.5 years while he's in PA school. We were planning on buying a home in a year or two but this is exciting cause its in the woods on 10achers of land and its cheap rent. More time to figure out what I want to buy and enjoy living in the vermont woods for a few years. I need a few years of some isolation with my wife and dog after work and in weekends.

    Hi, Im New!!

A font is a family of weights/sizes of a certain typeface that is utilized with desktop publishing software, in either a Windows, Macintosh, or Linux environment (previously this was all set by hand in a letterpress environment). Calligraphy, and more correctly applied to your situation, is defined as the art of writing. My day job is graphic design, and I don't want any of that in my tattoo world. Upcoming Tattoos

Well, El Monga's coming back to Philly next month, and despite the fact that I got tattooed by him last month, and again back in May, I booked a spot with him. What am I going to do, NOT get tattooed by him? Not sure exactly what I'm going to get, but I threw a bunch of ideas at him in an email. We'll see what sticks.

The dagger goes through a tattoo from Alex Binnie, which is his version of the first tattoo I had done over 40 years ago.

Oh, seem to have a good few of more of Stella Grassman as tattooed by Deafy Grassman than I thought. Artoria (Anne Gibbons) by Charles "red" Gibbons too. - - - Updated - - - Oh, crikey, Lady Viola by Frank Graf! How could I forget her, she's utterly lovely. A good few of her, this is the best but not enough leg leg - note that those little 'flowers' on her thigh are actually portraits. Charlie Chaplin in clearest in the photo.

What a great thread! Can't believe I've only just found it! Some of the unnamed tattooed ladies I can help with, I think. The others I have to go back for - didn't show the photos in my multi-quote attempt... So much fascinating stuff - can't possibly thank everyone individually - this post shall be way to long as it is :o But, yes. She's one of the few I've not been able to track down a name for. The whole look and feel of the photo suggests she might be a private individual rather than a circus girl - the setting looks rather aristocratic to me. No other photos of her to be found either, also reasonably unusual. Tell me about it! <grr> Huzzah! I've been trying to find out her name for an age - she's one of my references so felt a bit of a prat for not knowing. Another shot of her here: Oh that's fascinating. Thanks for sharing! I found these online, so you've probably seen them already. Still nice to look at though. http://earwigbiscuits.tumblr.com/image/1203712082 A painting: Edith by George Burchett, c.1900. Oil on canvas on board (Collection of Lyle Tuttle) http://earwigbiscuits.tumblr.com/image/1203732354 Tattoo flash by George Burchett, c.1900 (Collection of Lyle Tuttle) I have a sneaky suspicion that Madiah Surith was tattooed by him, no proof at all though! Her work is a lot like Edith's though. I really love the spiderweb flash. Just my bag. - - - Updated - - - Madiah Surith - - - Updated - - - Oh heck, the tread didn't seen quite so long while I was reading it. I remember Maud Wagner (wife of Gus Wagner) being linked twice but not named. All I know is that Gus taught her to tattoo (in trade for a date, they say) and that she was also an aerialist and contortionist in a circus. Here she is: Other than that, if any one is interested, I have a good few tattooed ladies with names saved that I can post up. Not so much success on finding out who tattooed them though, I'm afraid. I've do have a good series of Jean Furella Carroll, tattooed by Charlie Wagner, taken a several points in her life. Just stuff from online but I've not found it in one place yet.

Just got a cover-up from Trevor Taylor at Liberty in Seattle. I had one laser removal session done at Fade Fast in Dallas and, though I've got nothing but good things to say about Fade Fast, decided I wasn't patient enough to see it though. Trevor was great and I'm very pleased with the result. It won't be my last from him. The photo was borrowed from Trevor's Instragram.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

I went to Chicago (first time!) for a very short work trip. However, I did manage to squeeze in an appointment with Nick Colella: He wedged my wife's name into a little spot below my left knee ditch and right under a girl head I got that looks just like her. I didn't tell her I was going to do it; when I got home last night, I said, "My leg hurts. Can you look at it for me?" Fortunately, she loves it as much as I do. Nick was awesome. He did the whole thing in about 15 minutes, then I hung out and soaked in his beautiful shop for a while. Nick, Erik, Frank, and Matt were all super gracious and chatted with me for a long time. I can't recommend Great Lakes Tattoo highly enough. And they take walk-ins all day!

    Hi, Im New!!

When I was getting my first tattoo, for months beforehand, I wanted to get a phrase taken from a John Cheever quote -- "write to make sense of life" (full quote: "The need to write comes from the need to make sense of one's life and discover one's usefulness.") -- AND I wanted to get in Latin. This was only six years ago, but I don't even remember what my reasoning was for the whole Latin thing. Anyway, after stressing over the correct spelling for the Latin (seriously. wut.), font options for the script, etc., I finally decided the reason I was dallying on actually getting the tattoo was because I didn't really want to get words written on me. I wanted an image. I wanted something that would look beautiful. I wanted art. So I found the ibis, the bird that represents the Egyptian deity Thoth, who served as scribe to the gods. As soon as I stumbled upon it, I knew it would be the image I got tattooed on me. It held the meaning I wanted, that was important to me, but it was also a beautiful image of a lovely bird (my ibis is in flight). Now that I have three more tattoos, I feel confident saying I don't think I'll ever put text on my body. I think script can look really great incorporated into certain designs, but what I personally like about tattoos is that they are mobile art that I get to carry with me everywhere I go. It's a bit ironic given how much I clearly value the written word, but hey, a time and place for everything, right? :) Side benefit -- there's more ambiguity with pictures. They feel more personal to me. I know what my ibis means, and if someone who sees it asks me about it, I can tell them. For everyone else who doesn't ask, they'll just see a pretty bird in flight. And that's cool, too. Anyway, good luck with your tattoo -- I hope you get exactly what you want.

    Hi, Im New!!

Ok, advice: Leave the bandage on for at least a few hours. The less you do to it during healing process the better. Don't get it facing you; while this may not bother you or your friends, it's an A1 rookie mistake. And if you decide to get more and go bigger and start delving into the world of tattoos, you may feel a little sheepish about it. Good luck!

You lucky dog as that is awesome for you! Sadly, I'm still waiting to hear back from him about doing a tiger on the ribs. Originally, I had wanted him to do my arm but switched ideas and location cause I wouldn't mind having my ribs in progress for an extended period of time. I don't know if the change up in ideas turned him off or he is just really busy (most likely) but it sucks waiting to hear back from him. How did you go about contacting him via e-mail or Kings Ave? I'm hoping to hear back from him but I'm not sure how much longer I will hold out for.
