  1. This isn't super related to the thread, but kinda. Anyways, a few days ago I noticed a pretty nice looking rose tattoo peaking out of the shirt sleeve of the professor who I'm a TA for, and I asked him about it, something like "Hey I saw you had a tattoo on your bicep earlier, I didn't realize you had any it looks pretty nice." And he tells me that he has that one and another one, a panther on his other arm. So I knew he lived in San Francisco for a while, so naturally being the tattoo nerd I am, I ask him where he got it. Apparently, in the late 90s he just happened to walk into Ed Hardy's Tattoo City and ended up getting a crawling panther from Tim Lehi when he was working there. He said at the time he had no idea who Ed Hardy was or anything. He was also pretty surprised when I started nerding out about how big of a deal Tim Lehi and all those dudes who were at Tattoo City at the time are now (Dan Higgs, Tim Lehi, Jef Whitehead, etc). Anyways, the tattoo is pretty rad and it blows my mind that there are so many people out there who just stumble into getting amazing tattoos with no idea that the artist might be one of the most well known and respected in the world, meanwhile, I (and probably lots of others on this forum) spend hours and hours and hours looking up artists in different cities, traveling 10+ hours in a single day (some of you are flying halfway across the world) just to get tattooed by these very same artists.

  2. Hi! Im Geggi from the west coast of Norway. I have been spying on this forum for a while, mostly looking at the contest page and drooling over all the amazing tattoos everybody is getting. Been collecting some stuff from Marius Meyer and other Oslo based tattooers, so hopefully I`ll get the fingers out my ass and start posting stuff myself. Pleasure hanging out! Thnx to @Willhell and @Iwar for recommending this forum.

  3. ^I think the level of awesomeness has gone down, but people's perspective of what constitutes as awesome varies, so... each to their own. Big news for me, sort of. I've decided to make a career change, well really going back to my initial plan: Teaching. I completed my degree in Psychology and have been working as a caseworker for almost a year now and surprise! I'm one of the many that have become disillusioned by the stressful workload and little pay-off (monetary and satisfaction-wise). Teaching doesn't pay much better, but at least I'll be doing what I enjoy. I've also started writing on the side and it's brought way more happiness to my life. Just goes to show how important it is not to doubt yourself and stop doing what you enjoy. Back to school for me! *Excited cringe!*

  4. Eh. I have dragon heads on both knees and a dragon on my left forearm. I have a snake on my elbow/right forearm, a massive snake on my back, and a snake (with a hot stuff head) on my shin. Four girl heads so far, three spiders, four birds, three skulls, four hearts, and countless flowers. I'm probably missing a few in the previous counts, but you see what I'm getting at. There will be nothing remotely bummer about a huge tiger from Bryan Burk. Nothing.

  11. This ^^^^ I have several skulls, a couple of anchors, at least four birds, a few hearts, and like Hogg, more flowers than I know what to do with! I wouldn't worry about having similar images - focus on getting really high quality tattoos. By the looks of it, that isn't going to be a problem for you. Anyway, just my two cents.

  15. Time travel! It's 9:30am here... so for breakfast I enjoyed a hearty bowl of Kashi blueberry crunch (something like that) cereal in an over-sized coffee mug because my fiance has been marathon eating oatmeal (no clean bowls) and we've been super lazy this weekend to chip away at the dishes. Yup, that felt weird to share with strangers... Lol

    Tattoos and the workplace

Get an invisible tattoo , as long as the artist gets paid, so he can buy more resources to make proper tattoos with skulls n stuff for people who want tattoos .

If you do the exact dietzel design, you'll have a connection to it. Especially if you are really into traditional designs.

  20. One of the biggest lies reality television has created is that you need a "reason" to get a tattoo. If it's cool, and makes you feel awesome, then that is all you need.

  21. I don't like talking about money either and call me old fashion...or just plain old, I prefer to bring gifts. Books, bottles of alcohol, some type of food or treats. Sure cash can be king, but this works for me and the artist always seem to appreciate it.

I have two sets of koi from Henning Jorgensen. One on my left arm, two on my left thigh. LOVE his koi. Thoughts have run through my head of getting more koi up the left side of my torso to tie everything all together. Like most hobbies, interests, passions; there is no set formula in how one goes about collecting things. Just get what you like.

  30. Head MotherFucker In Charge is what. I use it for. Actually, I took what he said as a good thing. He conveyed that he thought I did a quality job, and that no one should remember or even care that a salesman, marketer they worked with had tattoos. So two good things, one, the. HMFIC thinks I am worth employing for the foreseeable future, and two, he took no umbrage with what a lot of people in my field still do.

    Hello from England

Hello everyone, I'm Flo. I have up until now only been a (mostly) passive tattoo enthusiast, but i guess that will all change now! I decided to join LST after watching Scott Sylvia's Interview, which was awesome. Don’t you think? It did however make me think about how I got into being so interested in tattoos... I got my first tattoo from Nikki Balls only three years ago at the Brighton Tattoo Convention after watching the ‘True Love’ documentaries’ which I found on youtube, and decided she would be a good place to start. At the time i didn't have any flash books so trawled through pages of the internet on sites like flikr to find something I liked. I understand what Scott is saying about a lot being lost in the meaning behind tattooing due to the widespread popularity from the internet but at the same time some good things have come from it. Surely this forum is proof of that? If it wasn't for the internet, in many way's I don't think I would have been able to make an informed choice of who to get tattooed by and what to get. Anyway, that was a long hello! In case your interested, here is Ball's Tattoo: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/167128_1766530373631_6101647_n.jpg

  35. Honestly, this is what's gonna happen if you take that drawing into a shop: they're gonna look at your drawing, hand it back to you, grab the exact same line drawing from the back, and slap it on you. Amund Dietzel is a highly-regarded old timer and an influence to many tattooers working today. I'm gonna go on a limb and say you probably got that design from These Old Blue Arms? The original design exists, it's great as it is, and it works. Which isn't to discourage you from drawing and painting flash if you enjoy doing so, cause it's a lot of fun! Just like.. let the tattooer design your pieces. Everyone I know who has gotten their own drawings on them (including myself) regrets it. And that's not necessarily because the drawing is bad but because it's so personal, you are likely to grow out of it. As practicing artists, skills evolve.

  36. Matching tattoo pigment to skin tone so the tattoo isn't noticeable? Some people shouldn't get tattooed. That shit is retarded.

  37. Update on my 3/4 and chest panel by Martin Lacasse. It seemed like SO much black but now that we're into the color it seems much brighter. Marty only does two hour sessions, which is fine for the wallet and the sessions are a breeze(except collar bone, that was awful). Probably two more sessions of color to go. Crappy pic, kind of difficult to take yourself.

  38. The only thing that really irks me is when people ask any iteration of the tired question, "won't you regret that when you are older?" implying that they know how I am going to feel 40-50 years from now, if I even manage to live that long. I got my first tattoo the day I turned 18 and I still like it. After a lot of thought about designs, and finally having enough disposable income to get more, it was nine years before I got my second tattoo. Plenty of time to evaluate whether I wanted more or not. Since smart phones have made replying with a photo easier, I keep this handy to answer any form of the question I mentioned.

  42. I'm a big fan of AFI, and all the guys in the band speak highly of Lindsey Carmichael, Scott Sylvia, Freddy Corbin, Eric Hogan, Jeff Rassier, and probably a ton of others. Most of their albums have a section in the liner notes called "Get tattooed by" and then a huge list of artists.

  47. Chris Brand of Good Time Charlie's Tattooland in Anaheim. He doesn't have much of a web presence--hell, I don't even know if the guy has a cell phone--but he does killer black and gray, gorgeous Japanese and nice traditional. And he's one of the nicest, most humble and genuine folks you'll ever meet, in this biz or any other. Oh, and he did Ben Grillo's back: And since Chris has a jaw-dropper of a sleeve from Miyazo, I'll add him to the list. He puts a slight pop art twist on traditional Japanese tattooing. ‘åã_Q‰®ì_‹{‘*_MIYAZO_TATTOO_ŽhÂ
