Eh. I have dragon heads on both knees and a dragon on my left forearm. I have a snake on my elbow/right forearm, a massive snake on my back, and a snake (with a hot stuff head) on my shin. Four girl heads so far, three spiders, four birds, three skulls, four hearts, and countless flowers. I'm probably missing a few in the previous counts, but you see what I'm getting at. There will be nothing remotely bummer about a huge tiger from Bryan Burk. Nothing.7 points

This ^^^^ I have several skulls, a couple of anchors, at least four birds, a few hearts, and like Hogg, more flowers than I know what to do with! I wouldn't worry about having similar images - focus on getting really high quality tattoos. By the looks of it, that isn't going to be a problem for you. Anyway, just my two cents.4 points

Hello everyone, I'm Flo. I have up until now only been a (mostly) passive tattoo enthusiast, but i guess that will all change now! I decided to join LST after watching Scott Sylvia's Interview, which was awesome. Don’t you think? It did however make me think about how I got into being so interested in tattoos... I got my first tattoo from Nikki Balls only three years ago at the Brighton Tattoo Convention after watching the ‘True Love’ documentaries’ which I found on youtube, and decided she would be a good place to start. At the time i didn't have any flash books so trawled through pages of the internet on sites like flikr to find something I liked. I understand what Scott is saying about a lot being lost in the meaning behind tattooing due to the widespread popularity from the internet but at the same time some good things have come from it. Surely this forum is proof of that? If it wasn't for the internet, in many way's I don't think I would have been able to make an informed choice of who to get tattooed by and what to get. Anyway, that was a long hello! In case your interested, here is Ball's Tattoo: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/167128_1766530373631_6101647_n.jpg3 points

A nice gent got me a gift certificate to Off the Map Northwest down in Oregon. I should have enough for a good sized piece by early next year: so now I just need to figure out which one of their many guest artists/or resident artists with availability to get work from. It's like being a kid in a candy store, wheeee!3 points

Ever since I became aware of what the world of tattooing is, I've also been aware of the closely guarded secrets and the policy of not sharing the gold. And it's a good policy. Not everyone deserves to see the end of the rainbow. And then there's other times where I see that keeping everything to yourself or the immediate close circle isn't always necessary, or that it's more like brass not gold. I also scanned the Rudy interview from the same old copy of TA that I scanned and posted the VyVyn article from in that other thread. I tried to make the scans less crooked this time. Seems to be the best place to post this.3 points -

You lucky dog as that is awesome for you! Sadly, I'm still waiting to hear back from him about doing a tiger on the ribs. Originally, I had wanted him to do my arm but switched ideas and location cause I wouldn't mind having my ribs in progress for an extended period of time. I don't know if the change up in ideas turned him off or he is just really busy (most likely) but it sucks waiting to hear back from him. How did you go about contacting him via e-mail or Kings Ave? I'm hoping to hear back from him but I'm not sure how much longer I will hold out for.2 points -
I don't like talking about money either and call me old fashion...or just plain old, I prefer to bring gifts. Books, bottles of alcohol, some type of food or treats. Sure cash can be king, but this works for me and the artist always seem to appreciate it.2 points

What's a good gratuity or tip?

Cash is the best tip.2 points -
And if you want a tattoo that's easy to conceal you can get, oh I don't know, A BACK PIECE. You can get your thighs tattooed, your ribs, your torso, your shoulders, and you can easily cover those with clothing. Wanting or needing to keep your tattoos covered in a professional setting, when you're with your family who doesn't approve of tattoos, or whatever, doesn't mean that you can't get pretty much covered with great tattoos.2 points

No gloves...it's funny, I was thinking about that the other day, I remember when the big deal at CTC was the autoclave...NO ONE wore gloves. Sitting getting worked on by Dale, both of us smoking. Cigarettes, yeah, that's the ticket, cigarettes...2 points

Update on my 3/4 and chest panel by Martin Lacasse. It seemed like SO much black but now that we're into the color it seems much brighter. Marty only does two hour sessions, which is fine for the wallet and the sessions are a breeze(except collar bone, that was awful). Probably two more sessions of color to go. Crappy pic, kind of difficult to take yourself.2 points -

Hello from Luxembourg Scott "Cool-Aid" Irwin
GrayCatLove reacted to Scottirwin for a topic
I am an American living in Europe. I'm an artist formerly known as Cool-Aid but now that I'm older I just use my real name Scott Irwin, I have nothing to hide anymore. I've been tattooing since 1995 and have been in the front seat of a wild ride called tattooing. Even though I've been tattooing so long I feel as if I just started gaining momentum. I'm here to surround myself with like minded artists. I couldn't have stumbled across Scott Sylvia's interview at a more perfect time. Like all things there are highs and lows, and there are new beginnings. I am very thankful to be a tattooer and couldn't imagine it any other way.1 point -

so i have a weird question. i already have a bryan burk tiger, right? well i am 100% having him do my back but honestly the more i think about, i just want him to do a another bigger tiger on my back, with background and maybe other elements. is that weird to have 2 similar tattoos from the same person on you?1 point -
My nephew.. Was unable to go, and I am working 70 hour weeks until mid November. Which means we can afford a house next year (and more tattoos), but I'll have to miss the convention. Sad panda, but I shall live vicariously through you guys until the next one :). Make it rain (Dick's) while you are there and get a good walk up!1 point

Melissa Etheredge and the Indigo Girls? I was pretty psyched when I was up at Spider Murphy's over the summer that within the first 10 minutes of my tattoo, I heard an old Bowie song and a BRMC song... two of my faves. Always comforting to hear some of your favorite music while getting tattooed. Seemed like they probably had pandora on, I don't know. There was some Black Sabbath, Black Keys, and some "classic rock" at my last session here in LA and that's all fine with me, too.1 point -
don't really care what machines the artist working on me uses....but i do prefer coils since the quiet rotarys kinda creep me out because the simple fact they don't sound alot! i need that sound to zone out.1 point

^ I feel like my last post came out wrong. We have a kind of sarcastic way of communicating a lot of the time, the "dumb shit" remark was said laughingly. By "dumb shit" he means whatever "unladylike" things I want, and that was clarified at the time. He really is incredibly nice, to a fault almost. With everything else, he's a pushover, this is one of the only things he feels strongly about. I only mention our limits matching up to show that maybe we were actually on the same page all along, and just not understanding each other because we assumed something different about each other (alas, communication). Once he heard from me that there were things I would never do and get, I think that put him much more at ease. I would love to get to the point where we're both excited about things I want to get (and maybe even both getting tattooed, haha), and maybe that will never happen, but I think he will at the very least be tolerant of it. He came to my last appointment right after he got off work and was there to support me, but as soon as I mentioned getting another I got the whole "You already have 2, do you need more?" lecture, and have been getting it ever since from him. Him actually participating in my brainstorming (and not just moping and trying to convince me not to do it) was a big step for him. And so far, it does seem like once I actually get something, he's fine with it...it's the planning stage that seems to get to him the most. We're having a tough time right now in general because of a lot of changes in both of our lives, and I think the tattoo disagreements have just pushed everything over the edge and got us both kind of riled up. He did very clearly say during our talk that it's my body and I can do what I want, and he won't love me any less.1 point -
