One of the biggest lies reality television has created is that you need a "reason" to get a tattoo. If it's cool, and makes you feel awesome, then that is all you need.4 points -
Hey everyone, haven't posted much lately but finally have a reason to. Despite the new baby, found some time for a new tattoo. Artist Ryan Gagne, Classic Tattoo, Red Deer, AB. Thanks for checking it out.4 points

A nice gent got me a gift certificate to Off the Map Northwest down in Oregon. I should have enough for a good sized piece by early next year: so now I just need to figure out which one of their many guest artists/or resident artists with availability to get work from. It's like being a kid in a candy store, wheeee!3 points

Ever since I became aware of what the world of tattooing is, I've also been aware of the closely guarded secrets and the policy of not sharing the gold. And it's a good policy. Not everyone deserves to see the end of the rainbow. And then there's other times where I see that keeping everything to yourself or the immediate close circle isn't always necessary, or that it's more like brass not gold. I also scanned the Rudy interview from the same old copy of TA that I scanned and posted the VyVyn article from in that other thread. I tried to make the scans less crooked this time. Seems to be the best place to post this.3 points -

Honestly, this is what's gonna happen if you take that drawing into a shop: they're gonna look at your drawing, hand it back to you, grab the exact same line drawing from the back, and slap it on you. Amund Dietzel is a highly-regarded old timer and an influence to many tattooers working today. I'm gonna go on a limb and say you probably got that design from These Old Blue Arms? The original design exists, it's great as it is, and it works. Which isn't to discourage you from drawing and painting flash if you enjoy doing so, cause it's a lot of fun! Just like.. let the tattooer design your pieces. Everyone I know who has gotten their own drawings on them (including myself) regrets it. And that's not necessarily because the drawing is bad but because it's so personal, you are likely to grow out of it. As practicing artists, skills evolve.3 points -

I am still waiting for a confirmation email from him, so it's not completely set in stone, but I am still fucking excited! I'm going to have him do a little psychedelic cobra with a skull face. I'm moving at the end of the year, so sadly I cannot afford anything too big. It'll be going on my inner forearm, about 6'x3'. STOKED3 points -

It looks like you're in good hands there. I'd also look into the guys at Solid State Tattoo though. Most of that Dietzel collection that I assume you saw comes from Jon Reiter who tattoos there, and Julio Avila and Josh Howard are great too.2 points -
Also the only reason you need to get tattooed is that you like tattoos. You don't need to justify it to people who don't know shit about tattoos.2 points

Hey everyone at LST, my names Nick Hayes and im a tattooer at Third Street Tattoo in Hermosa Beach, CA; (its where drug addiction and Black Flag made their mark) Been tattooing about 5 years. I apprenticed under Brian "big5" Barber at Union Electric tattoo in Wilmington, CA for a couple years. He's a tattooer/machine builder and owner of Union Machines. Check them out! I really enjoy early american traditional tattoos but try to keep my abilities pretty open to all styles. Im always reluctant to change so I was slow to get on facebook, slow to instagram, and in good fashion...slow to LST. Heard nothing but great things from all my past co-workers and im finally pullin the trigger! i dont want to be one of those guys who ransacks the tattoo industry so im hoping ill able to bring something to the table to tattooing as well as this forum. Have a good one and thanks for reading.2 points -

I had to add this - This is from a Jenny Clarke flash sheet, and is supposed to be a chest panel/half sleeve design, which the artist clearly didn't understand, and copied it, very small, onto a forearm. I don't think I have ever seen a tattoo miss the point as much as this one.1 point -

Tim Commeford from Rage Against The Machine has a great backpiece. I cant remember how old I was when I saw this the first time. Maybe like 16 or so, but I remember that back then I thought how cool the tattoos is, but for years and years I was just too... I dont know if affraid is the right word, maybe too harsh. I was just too self-conscience (sp?) and too concerned what other people would have thought (even if I act like I didnt give a fuck) if I got something so "lame, boring and normal". It was same with Traditonal Japanese and Americana. I had to grow as a person to let myself love those styles. Fuck! I wish there would have been more sense in me (and fucking GOOD artists in here) so I could have gotten something like this in my arms (attached), rather than the shit I have now. And now I have a skin disorder that hinders A LOT my changes of getting tattooed... Fuck. This is the first time it has gotten to me really. Sorry about the rant! About backpieces, this is weird and cool by Volker1 point
