    Tiger tattoos

My tiger by Steve Boltz. Three years old, and the reason I first went to Smith Street. Edit, I lied, it's only just over two years. I wanted to be cool and say it was older.

  2. Hey everyone, haven't posted much lately but finally have a reason to. Despite the new baby, found some time for a new tattoo. Artist Ryan Gagne, Classic Tattoo, Red Deer, AB. Thanks for checking it out.

  3. Update on my 3/4 and chest panel by Martin Lacasse. It seemed like SO much black but now that we're into the color it seems much brighter. Marty only does two hour sessions, which is fine for the wallet and the sessions are a breeze(except collar bone, that was awful). Probably two more sessions of color to go. Crappy pic, kind of difficult to take yourself.

  4. Matching tattoo pigment to skin tone so the tattoo isn't noticeable? Some people shouldn't get tattooed. That shit is retarded.

  5. My smallest tattoo to date. This lil kung fu mantis is about the size of a loonie (that is a dollar coin in canaduh eh). Tattoo by Bryan Turnbull (from Gov Street Tattoo, Victoria BC) and was made at Shades of Grey Tattoo in Edmonton, AB during his recent guest spot visit. God damn this tiny zapper makes me laugh DON'T BUG ME EH

  6. My father's older tattoos are black and grey with minimal color, sort of what I would call biker traditional (i.e.- screaming eagle in fine line style, etc.). He also has a lot of black and grey from the '90s, but he's grown an appreciation of the traditional American and Japanese styles since I started getting tattooed. He's got a bunch of color pieces filling formerly empty spaces, and they look great. Do what you want to do, just be sure to find a good tattooer.

  15. You are really young...you have plenty of time to date different people and find the right guy, you don't have to tie yourself down with someone who doesn't share your interests. It's not easy to break off a relationship at any age, even when you know it isn't right, you still have the things you liked about the person to begin with. But I agree, if there's something that you are really interested in like this, and he hates it, it's going to be a problem down the road. If you stop getting them for him, you will have resentment. If you keep getting them and he keeps badgering you to stop, you will both have resentment. Life is hard enough without getting a bunch of flack from the person who is supposed to love you.

  16. And if you want a tattoo that's easy to conceal you can get, oh I don't know, A BACK PIECE. You can get your thighs tattooed, your ribs, your torso, your shoulders, and you can easily cover those with clothing. Wanting or needing to keep your tattoos covered in a professional setting, when you're with your family who doesn't approve of tattoos, or whatever, doesn't mean that you can't get pretty much covered with great tattoos.

I got this in aug of this year,I like this style a lot. I got this from Jess Yen,until I got to the show,I did'nt even know what it was going to look like,I told him to do what he wanted. there are also a lot of other styles of tiger tattoos that I like as well though. I am very happy with this one. . .

  19. That shop looks nice and I'm sure they do a great job of tattooing daily. Personally, nothing catches my eye, which would make me look elsewhere. But, I'm not getting my first tattoo anymore and I've learned what I love and look for in a tattooer. This is your first, probably won't be your last, just look for something exceptional. TAM Blog has this up, and it's been posted here before. While I find fault with a few things, I think it is a good starter for someone new to tattooing: Guen Douglas: How to Properly Examine a Tattoo Portfolio | TAM Blog

  20. Haha, yeah it doesn't fly w/the kids at our school either. It was just funny. I work at a large urban school. I'd say a good 80% of the parents or more are tattooed... I have a kindergarten daughter, too! She knows all about tattoos as well and has visited the shop with us many times (although now she's too bummed out by the taxidermy), and she comes with us to tattoo-related art shows.

  22. I've seen, heard and experienced nothing but bad things about white ink tattoos. They're just not practical and always fade quickly. I don't understand the point of getting a faint tattoo that not only is not visible from a distance, but will inevitably fade into crap at a fast rate. Get it covered in black ink in my opinion. A job really shouldn't be a factor in choosing ink color. If you're not willing to fully cover it I think it would be a huge mistake to try and get it in a color that just doesn't work out well, just so it's less noticeable. Because now you have a bad looking tattoo and it might still be noticeable enough to have to cover anyways. Might as well get a good tattoo and just cover it without being told. Like the above poster said, wear a long sleeve shirt. No rocket science required here.

    Bug Zappers

Let's see some posts of your lil bug tattoos! by Bryan Turnbull IG is "bryanjturnbull" I walked in with the intent to get a mini sailor jerry-esque fly but on a whim switched it to a preying mantis when i walked through the door of the shop (re: good decision making lol). My smallest tattoo to date. Makes me laugh everytime I see it because everything around it is so big lol...it's on my rib cage, right in that brutal spot a couple inches down from the armpit. This lil filler fella is pretty crunchy right now...one of the hardest heals I've had so far. . The tattoo was completed entirely with a liner and was completed in half the time it took to setup the damn machine lol. I think I'm going to get a couple more bugs to fill in some gaps because this one makes me laugh everytime I see his big ass bug eyes. - - - Updated - - - beware...of the dreaded miniature karate mantis !!!

    Dry healing

So me and a friend were talking about this the other day. When we started getting tattooed we always did all of the aftercare instructions as prescribed. This involved numerous applications of Aquaphor, lotion, etc etc. As time passed (and we were getting tattooed very regularly) we have done less and less to our tattoos. I simply wash them with super-super-hot water the first couple of days to get all the gunk off. At this point I pretty much just dry heal all my tattoos unless they are "ultra crunchy" feeling. The results at least for both of us have actually been better. I heal pretty much a day before my next session (2 weeks exactly apart), and my tattooer has always been amazed at how fast and clean I heal. While I am not sure if it related to the person tattooing us (same person) but I know we have pretty different skin. Anyone else use this method?

And before that, PetCo for cat treats, Bath and Body where I got awesome stuff, and a delicious grilled chicken sandwich with romaine, tomato, and a pickle on a wheat bun... Hadn't eaten anything but oatmeal, strawberries, organic chocolate milk, and soda in days. Soooooooo freakin' good.

  35. This would not work with my kindergarten daughter who knows all about our tattoos. In fact she loves to go to the shop we like because every time we go in she gets to feed the koi fish and they give her a press on tattoo. We have had multiple conversations about how our tattoos are with needles under our skin, hurt, and are forever. She said she wants to wait until she is 50 but I guess we will see.

  41. We went to this Irezumi art opening in Hollywood Thursday night. https://www.facebook.com/irezumiartshow Saw some great art there from the likes of Stewart Robson, Tim Lehi, Mike Rubendall, etc., etc. Bob Roberts and Oliver Peck were there. Corey Miller's band played and we met him as he was bringing stuff to the stage. Our little 5 yr old excitedly told him that she's going to be Sleeping Beauty for Halloween. He seemed impressed. Sweet guy.

He said he's hoping it knock it out in 2 more sessions. 43. @eisen777 An element of seeing muscle definition comes down to your levels of body fat. If your body fat, as a man, heads under 10% then you're going towards a very defined look, provided the muscle is there underneath to expose. Depending on age, where you began from, training and diet, however, it's possible to train a fair bit and build muscle without ever getting to the stage where you are going to look like a fitness magazine cover model (probably a lot of those guys don't walk around like that most of the year either - they probably cut for the shoot). If you managed to gain lean muscle mass, however, whilst your body fat levels stay more or less the same or is still reducing you obviously are going to look better to a considerable extent, and if you're a relative novice then you can make a lot of progress pretty quick. Things like posture can improve as well, which feeds into it too. Someone else might be able to comment more on the 5ks you're running. There's a school of thought that if you want to bias towards lifting weights and gaining muscle for a little bit then you should cut back on the intermediate distance runs for a while, and just focus on lifting (maybe with some shorter metabolic conditioning work instead, like 1-2 sessions a week of something like sprints or a circuit). The other side of it is that some 5k runs might not be that taxing, depending on pace, and if your diet is good and you're young maybe you can recover fine from them. Further down the road there might come a point to the contrary, where it is too taxing on top of lifting. As far as lifting goes, in general you'll get a lot more bang for buck with compound multi-joint exercises. Squats, deadlift, bench, pull-up, row, military press etc. Can't go too far wrong. If you want to lift several days a week and cut back on the running you could look at programming like Starting Strength, 5x5, Stronglifts, West Side for skinny bastards or similar (google them for the programming and explanations). Probably a good idea to get a form check from someone who knows what they're about on your squat and deadlift if you haven't already.

If the tattoo is wrapped by the tattooer that is the last time anything happens to it. I have never had much problem healing, but I am getting my knee tattooed in a three weeks so we'll see how that goes. Actually I'm getting my knee and my ribs tattooed on the same day. I am an idiot.
