Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Update on my 3/4 and chest panel by Martin Lacasse. It seemed like SO much black but now that we're into the color it seems much brighter. Marty only does two hour sessions, which is fine for the wallet and the sessions are a breeze(except collar bone, that was awful). Probably two more sessions of color to go. Crappy pic, kind of difficult to take yourself.13 points -

You are really young...you have plenty of time to date different people and find the right guy, you don't have to tie yourself down with someone who doesn't share your interests. It's not easy to break off a relationship at any age, even when you know it isn't right, you still have the things you liked about the person to begin with. But I agree, if there's something that you are really interested in like this, and he hates it, it's going to be a problem down the road. If you stop getting them for him, you will have resentment. If you keep getting them and he keeps badgering you to stop, you will both have resentment. Life is hard enough without getting a bunch of flack from the person who is supposed to love you.8 points -

I'm going to throw my Bert Grimm special into the mix this month. It's by Tim Pausinger at The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop in Toronto. It may not be the most complex or largest tattoo, but I think Tim really nailed it.8 points

I just found an old VHS tape that my mentor shot at a tattoo convention called 'Grandpa Groovys' in I believe Virginia. I was capturing footage when I noticed some decent clips of Paul Rogers tattooing. I don't know a lot about the convention (mid late 1980s?) but I'll try to get it all edited down soon. Paul. Sailor Moses with a mullet... good times!5 points -

The only thing that really irks me is when people ask any iteration of the tired question, "won't you regret that when you are older?" implying that they know how I am going to feel 40-50 years from now, if I even manage to live that long. I got my first tattoo the day I turned 18 and I still like it. After a lot of thought about designs, and finally having enough disposable income to get more, it was nine years before I got my second tattoo. Plenty of time to evaluate whether I wanted more or not. Since smart phones have made replying with a photo easier, I keep this handy to answer any form of the question I mentioned.5 points

While my last was only two days old, a lady manager who was curious and the 'touchy feely' type abruptly grabbed my arm and twisted to get a better look. She complimented me by I still asked her had she lost her mind. Personally I'd rather deal with the stereotypical plain skin questions but putting hands on me and basically trying to force my hand in displaying my tattoo crossed the line IMO. A close friend still works there in her department said she was taken aback at my response. Seriously..3 points

I've seen, heard and experienced nothing but bad things about white ink tattoos. They're just not practical and always fade quickly. I don't understand the point of getting a faint tattoo that not only is not visible from a distance, but will inevitably fade into crap at a fast rate. Get it covered in black ink in my opinion. A job really shouldn't be a factor in choosing ink color. If you're not willing to fully cover it I think it would be a huge mistake to try and get it in a color that just doesn't work out well, just so it's less noticeable. Because now you have a bad looking tattoo and it might still be noticeable enough to have to cover anyways. Might as well get a good tattoo and just cover it without being told. Like the above poster said, wear a long sleeve shirt. No rocket science required here.2 points -

I think I was about the third Irish person to get certified in CrossFit, far as I know. It was the first certification weekend they did outside the US that wasn't on a military base. My claim to infamy... I was big into it for a few years. I think if your box is good then doing it can be a good way to get exposure to a lot of different training in a short space of time... Gymnastics, Olympic lifting, kettlebells... The nutritional advice is also good, IMO (although when I was in it was before Robb Wolfe got booted). Just don't injure yourself - beware the kool aid. No ones' Achilles' tendon is designed for high rep box jumps.2 points

I used to be the same way and my very first tattoo was a half-sleeve a week after I turned 18. I never imagined getting more tattoos after that but sure enough I now have a full-sleeve and my entire chest done as well with more ink on the way. I can say that for the arms especially, you will feel incomplete eventually with just half-sleeves. Once you start on the arms, I believe it's hard not to go all the way to the wrist.1 point -

Getting my knuckles tattooed/life ruined by Norm on Saturday. I can't wait!1 point -
Sorry for the delay in the photos. I had Nic snap some on Saturday before he got to work on the color. The photos of the color work were taken after I took the cover off and washed all the plasma off my arm. It took Nic about 4 hours to do all the coloring you see in the photos. And here are images from the game itself: For those unfamiliar with the game, the protagonist enter a derelict ship with no power about halfway through. Upon killing Phantoon, the ship's power is restored. I wanted the tattoo to look like the moment when Samus first discovers Phantoon emerging through a dark aura haunted by the spirits of the slain crew.1 point

Indeed! When I was a lass (mid 1990's UK in a run-down, low rent rural town) a hell of a lot of 'the girls' were getting tattooed - the main point seemed to be as an excuse to get ones tits / arse / thighs out. All the tattoos that were flashed at me were shit, without exception. The blokes just had lumpy tribal. No wonder it's taken me nearly 20 years to get started. Still 10 days to go  - - - Updated - - - (9 days in fact - last time the passage of time felt so painfully slow was in the last weeks of my pregnancies)1 point -

i dont know if her last name is peters-Marguerite , Both Marg and Cindy C. worked out of Peter Tat-2 (aka peters) . I believe Marguerite is in Delhi NY at SnapDragon ink. Its amazing how many people mention Marguerite's name around Long island and NYC she really is Legendary. Cindy C. as well, she's been tattooing well over 20 years, its 37-38 Years i believe, i think Marguerite is tattooing a year or two longer. They both have Very Very Similar Styles very beautiful fine line work1 point

Agreed, @Pleadco . I have never been a huge fan of the franchise, but this one has really grabbed me. The missions are better, the mechanics are better, (although as @Graeme pointed out, the driving still needs some fine-tuning) and the overall gameplay is better. Its a good way to kick back and recover after a few hours of getting poked with sharp things.1 point

Legendary Female Tattooers...
cltattooing reacted to Bunny Switchblade for a topic
I have a list somewhere around the house with close to 40-50 names of ladies that tattooed from the 20's thru the 70's! There were a lot more women tattooing than I think most know about! Names like Dee Brown and Bernice Steinhart from Portland, OR......(60's & 70's) I think @Joe Shit added Debbie Lenz from Youngstown, OH to this list....I'll be finally adding something from her this Summer hopefully! Not really sure if they are legendary though....... My mentor (who is female) opened her shop here in Maryland in the 1970's and has been tattooing 30+ years!1 point -

Mary Jane Haake is an amazing and beautiful lady that has been tattooing in Portland for 31 years, she apprenticed under Bert Grimm. Her work now mostly consists of reconstructive work on burn victims, breast cancer patients, wounded soldiers, which I personally think is a really cool thing to do. She kind of holds things together in Portland is the best way I can put it. She works as kind of a liaison to the health department , keeping us up to date on any new laws or restrictions. It seems like whenever you have an issue you can always call Mary Jane, and she is willing to listen and help. She throws a birthday party every year, with food, live bands, and such and I have been lucky enough to be able to tag alone with boss man a few times. It's always a great time and usually end up meeting some pretty legendary people in the tattoo world there. Here is a video of her talking about her career, Bert Grimm and tattooing penis and butt crack among other things. She is also the only person I know that uses a coil machine to tattoo to do cosmetic tattooing.1 point -

At the time I was a weird comic book reading horror and scifi nerd (so, pretty much no change) who would just slap stuff together- "I want a black panther, but he's an incarnation of St. Sebastian... oh, and don't make him growl, cause he's a fraidy cat" could easily get you a dead silent stare in 1990. I eventually got that in 2000 from Hoffman. it took me a while to hit my stride with getting what I want, but now I just sort of ramble on until my artist of choice says "I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, but lets nail it".1 point
