  2. So I am alive, albeit computerless for the most part, I miss being a part of this forum. Im doing well, in school and in my personal life. That guy I keep referencing is now my bf, and I am excelling in all my courses this semester. My french professor asked me to be the tutor for her class in the next few semesters... That is all :)

  3. Over the summer, my coworkers and I attended a staff appreciation BBQ, so the cats out of the bag. No one seemed to mind though. I was surprised to find out one of my coworkers has a ton of sweet Japanese tattoos. Needless to say, we are best buds now haha

  6. I wasn't sure if I should post this or not but I think my friend wouldn't mind. My other fave interpretation following the Hardy one. Any biters that steal this idea can get the gasface. Freddy Corbin. Summer of 2000 done in the back of an RV transformed into a tat shack. Lousy photo. It happens.

  7. @mmikaoj I got tattooed by Deno at last years. It was Denos last tattoo of the 2012 convention on the Sunday. My appointment was for 6pm and when I went over to his booth at 5:50 he hadn't even started the appointment before me. I thought there is no way he is going to get that done and mine before 8pm. But boy is he fast. We eventually got started at 7:15 he drew the design on and did a palm sized skull & crossbones in less than 45 minutes. He's a real nice guy. You're sure to get a great tattoo.

    Worried about tattoo

See your artist. Did they give you after-care instructions? All of the after-care instructions I've seen say no bath for at least two weeks. What cream did you use? Most after-care instructions indicate washing the tattoo a couple of times a day followed by a very thin layer of something like A&D ointment. The less you do to it the better off you are; for the most part let your body heal itself.

I wear a suit and tie myself. Just recently I showed up to the company picnic to play softball. Definitely got some crazy looks.

Oh I had a really difficult time deciding, because I felt I'd be a fool to not get a panther or tiger from him, and I was also really drawn to the weirder stuff he does, but I'm going to get an eagle or hawk on a rock in green waves.

  15. I'm 25+ years working with some of the same people and very few know. I see maybe 4-5 people at the gym, no bad reactions and they don't say anything to anyone at work. I think expecting a reaction may be over blown in my head. I was at the beach a few years back, after I got my chest pieces done. This one guy from work sees me and I stop by to talk to him.. his jaw hit the sand. He looked visually shocked. I saw his wife say something to him after I walked away , like "who the fuck was that?". There's one dipshit in the machine shop. He has this recently done little tattoo on his forearm, looks like one from the 25¢ gumball machine at the supermarket. He would foul himself if I rolled up a sleeve on him. - - - Updated - - - I used to needlessly worry about running into people I worked with in the summer. This was before I got back into tattoos again, I only had 4 at the time and they were a lot smaller and faded. I would carry a long sleeve shirt in the car and put it on if I had to go into a store. Talk about anal... Rob

  16. I think the question of big pieces versus a lot of smaller pieces is an interesting one. The extreme of big pieces is a bodysuit from one artist... The extreme of small would be having all one-shots, I guess, or nothing bigger than sort of middling-sized. Guess the grass is always greener to some extent... I really enjoy getting one shots these days, because they're easier to squeeze in more of, and require less planning, but at the same time they don't pack the visual wallop of a big piece. And some designs and styles only really work at a certain scale, IMO....

    Tattoos and the workplace

I work as a carpenter on commercial sites. Tattoos (usually bad) are quite common and fairly accepted in non-leadership positions. I just started with a new company this week and I'm slowly meeting my co-workers. Today a lead laborer showed up. It was chilly this morning so he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Looked like he might have a body suit because his throat was done as well as some hand and knuckle tattoos. As the day warmed up he took off his sweatshirt and low and behold Warped Tour Body Suit!!! It was pretty awesome, I tried not to laugh out loud. Highlight of the day.

  18. How about, "I really wanna open a tattoo shop. Well, after I learn how to tattoo." There was a whole conversation that followed in which the person I was talking to was offended when I suggested that she spend some time and money actually getting tattoos first. You're right. You have two 3" tattoos you got a few months ago and even though I started getting tattoos when you were 10 years old, I am really disrespectful and most likely have no idea what I'm even talking about. Giving. the fuck. up. trying to be helpful.

Next post from Grime is going to be "Stupid posers now everyone's asking me about the Ed Hardy piece pretending like they care." His Tattoo Age was really cool, but his Instagram makes him seem like a primadonna. And here is that one of Dave Fox's.

    Tattoos and the workplace

Oh man...I had a job 5 years where only two people knew I was tattooed. It was a fairly uptight office and we were required to wear long-sleeve dress shirts and slacks. Just short of a necktie. I would work out at the gym across the street on my lunch break. One day, I was in the locker room in nothing by my underwear when one of my coworkers walked in. I will never forget the look on his face. I had just finished my backpiece, and he definitely got an eyeful.

  22. The time line for me and collecting tattoos have been a mixture of: 1. I have a solid idea/placement for a tattoo. 2. The artist I want to do said tattoo is guesting or has time available. 3. I have enough money on hand. I've been struggling with my next tattoo because I know a tattooer that I REALLY want a tattoo from is going to be guesting next spring, but I have no idea what I want from them. Also, I've been trying to slow down getting tattoos so I don't finish too quickly--especially since I like getting larger work done. I'd like to continue getting tattoos through my 40s (I'm 23 right now). So this all means that I'm getting one decent sized tattoo every six months/1 year. So even though this guest spot is months and months away, I need to decide if I should forego it this time around and wait or travel when I have a good idea. Anyway, right now I'm pretty dead set on getting a snake/peony calf sleeve from Chris O'Donnell. He's in my area, I have a strong concept of what I want. In a few months I could start planning it and saving up, etc. So part of me is thinking I should go for what I know I want and just follow my above strategy to make sure I don't get a tattoo from an artists I wish I had waited for a better tattoo idea. I've also decided to focus more on my legs for the next few years, so that I really am solid on what I want on my arms. Although I may finish out my outer upper arm before that because I have a few ideas and artists I've been thinking about. I was also thinking about having Rose Hardy do my other thigh next year, but I'm so worried I want to reserve that thigh for a "sleeve" like thing. Ahhh it's so hard to plan. I don't want to be crazy OCD and plan all of my tattoos but some times I feel like I need to... I just love collecting tattoos and never want it to end! :)

After a little time off from getting tattooed, I've got two coming up in October. I'm starting on my chest with Tim Pausinger at The Pearl, then I'm getting some work done on my leg by Franz Stefanik at the Okey Doke. Good times ahead!

  30. A coworker of mine has a simple fly on the bottom of her foot... and it looks very much like one of the black spots that gum turns into after it's been on the sidewalk for a few months. From what I understand that is the standard result of the bottom of the foot tattoo.

  32. I had a very respected tattooer tell me that I may be getting tattooed a little too fast, and to slow it down. So I am. But my thinking goes like this: get my limbs done first with all the big designs I want, then filler afterwards. Once the limbs are done, I want one artist to do my front. But not one giant piece, I want patchwork. Something similar to what Stuart Cripwell and Matthew Houston are doing lately. I've thought about saving the back piece for last, but there are some days I want to start my back piece right now, before I even finish any limbs. I go back and forth on this every day.

  34. There are plenty of people I missed getting tattooed by because of when I got into it. There will be plenty of people I'd love to get tattooed by but won't because I won't have space or won't be into getting tattooed anymore or whatever. That's life.

  35. I am a relative newcomer to the game, I had my first tattoo two years ago, and am only on my sixth now, the speed at which I am getting them done seems to have ramped upwards though. I think, for me the fact that I can't afford to go out and get every single tattoo I want now (and I have a physical list of all artists and designs I want ) is a good thing, my tastes and awareness of the art form have changed over the past two years, let alone the (hopefully) many more I have yet to live. I'll continue to go as quickly as my wallet allows me! It seems that a grass is greener attitude seems to prevail, I am lightly tattooed and am looking forward to being heavily tattooed and I know many others share that with me, however I have spoken to and read posts from people who are heavily tattooed and commiserating that they can't fit any more work in! So I am just trying to relax, and enjoy the ride, even though the next appointment cannot come soon enough ;)

We often advise people here to not overthink the whole process of getting a tattoo. I am going to offer you the same advice, but about fucking. There is no "perfect body" and the sooner you can understand that there is beauty in imperfection, the better. Tattoos or not.
