    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

I planned my feet just before a 3-day weekend. That way, I was able to lounge around the house barefeet and wear some flip-flops when I did have to go out.

  6. @daveborjes That is too damn good. I just learned about Heike crabs a month ago when Crystal from Gomineko Books posted about them. The legend behind them is super cool.

    Hello All!

Wanted to thank Ian for the invite to the LST community. My name is Mike and from Yonkers, NY. Really into traditional Japanese tattooing and tattoo history/culture. I originally started getting tattooed in Okinawa Japan when I was stationed there in the late 90's. Waited 14 years before I got tattooed again. Last year I commission Rodrigo Melo of Northstar tattoo to start my suit. Amazing artist who has a good appreciation for use of sumi. We completed both 3/4 sleeves and chest panels earlier this year and started this past weekend on my back. Looking forward to being part of the community Mike

  8. Tattooed by a guy called Steve in Bath around 1970. Don't know what became of him. He gave me two great tattoos though. Got tattooed by Doc Price in Plymouth. He was 80 and has been tattooing since the 1940s, amazing guy and some great tales. I first saw one of his tattoos when I was in Approved School (Reform School) in the 1970s. It took 40 years but I got there. I've a great big framed picture of me and Doc that takes pride of place on the wall in my house. I've also got a Bristol Tattoo Club bat tattooed by Jimmie Skuse (Les Skuses grandson). Jimmie has been tattooing for a few years I'm not sure if Jimmie has been tattooing since 1985 but the family lineage dates back to the 1940s. Alex Binnie did his version of my first ever tattoo a couple of years ago. He is such an important person in British tattooing history. At the London tattoo convention I'm getting tattooed by Henning and in October, on my birthday, by Lal Hardy. George Bone is also on my list.

  11. Got my first two from Stano at Tattoo Zone in the Daytona area circa 86/87, though he's been in business since 1980. One was covered a couple years ago, but it had held lines and colors like the month it was put on, for real. (The other looks sharp to this day too, but is flat black.) Have to admit, I kind of get a kick out of wearing tattoos older than the "kids" I regularly patronize today! - - - Updated - - - Judge Dredd tattoo on shoulder, now covered Marilyn flash on chest Both by Stano

  12. Freddy Corbin in October, but I am not sure that he's pre-85, but he's gonna be the most legendary/known artist I've had work on me.

  13. What did you go about in the way of footwear during healing? More than the actual pain of the tattoo itself, the healing process is what I'd be stumped on.

Agreed. He was playing Blind Willie McTell when I got tattooed by him. Shaved me with a straight razor too, only time that's ever happened when I got tattooed. Pretty much everything about getting tattooed by Bob Roberts rules.

It's always funny when Skrewdriver gets brought up. Well, not really FUNNY per se, but it's one of those 'get out the popcorn, kick your feet up and watch it unfold'. Usually it starts with 'well, their first album was ok' (which we've already gotten) and at some point a devil's advocate will point out that it's ok to listen to NWA but not Skrewdriver and isn't that equally blah blah blah. Oh look. My popcorn is ready. :D

  20. I'm not even going to think about doing my feet until I have a job that doesn't require me to wear high rubber boots at work. Healing my shin has been gnarly enough because of that.

  25. If it's any consolation, the foot wasn't too bad for me personally. The bony bits close to the toes were certainly interesting, but I didn't think it was too terrible. Of course, I've had spots where I had the complete opposite experience—i.e., you don't hear them mentioned as being particularly awful, but I thought they were. Everyone's different, etc., etc. Good luck on getting in with Horitomo, I'm pulling for you.

Nice. It's always good to talk about music. I think the best music I have been tattooed to was the Jack White pandora station. I have also thought it would be cool to have some really nice classical or Jazz on so that I can really focus on calming myself (I am not good at sitting still). Ultimately though I think the best choice is whatever helps the artist focus.

  35. I'm leaving my academic teaching gig to take a job as a scientific illustrator for an excavation in Brazil next year. I get to do art for a living for a little while, and I am so fucking stoked. I'm also taking a printmaking class this semester, and it's the most fun I've had in any class, ever. Not sure why I love this really hard, really time-consuming process, but it turns out I think lithography is the shit.

I don't know if you'll find two guys more passionate and perfectionist. I can't help but think O'Donnell will appreciate the hell out of your Rubendall piece and strive to make his all the more better.

  43. Here comes another of my "Out of the Norm" submissions. This tattoo was done on the 1st September and is still driving me crazy. (My legs heal terribly). As usual, something different to the norm around these parts. Based on the Constructivism propaganda posters designed mainly in the early 20th Century and done by Gray Silva of Rampant Ink Nottingham @ Teesside Charity Tattoo Show, in about 5 hours, at a guess.

  44. That's cool.....I just wondered if for some people they saw 1985 as some pivotal time in tattooing or something and my first professional tattoo was done in 1984 by Juli Moon..... - - - Updated - - - I don't really know why or what got into my head one evening BUT.....I just decided that I wanted to seek out some of the people who had been tattooing 30-40 years and begin to add their work to my body! At the time I was not even thinking I would ever pick up a machine and tattoo but to me it truly was my way of being able to honor those people who had put their time in to the craft and community I loved since I did not tattoo! It really hit home to me that this is what I felt I should do once I was tattooed by Dennis Watkins....the hubby of my now mentor Gale Watkins! Dennis apparently was dying at the time unknown to anyone but himself and had really stopped tattooing totally. I asked a friend to see if he could convince him to do something small on me....and he agreed to do something! That one tattoo turned into three.....Myself...my hubby....and my son have his last three tattoos! After his death I asked a few well known tattoo artists who I was fortunate to be friends with who were others who had this kind of time in and got back a wonderful list I have been chipping away at for some time now! I try not to really draw a lot of attention to myself because I am really no one special.....I have just taken the time to have been tattooed by a lot of really wonderful people who love/loved what they do..... I really would urge others to do this as well if you are just going for smaller pieces here and there on your body rather than larger mural style pieces!

  45. Ha ha ha.......well this is truly what I have focused my "collecting" on! Can I ask why pick the year 1985? I am just curious...... - - - Updated - - - Here are a few off the top of my head..... There are probably several more but I am not sure they have made it to the 28-30 year mark just yet so i didn't include them...... Debra Yarian Debbie Lenz Gale Watkins (my mentor) Tony Polito Mike Perfetto Steve Delgatto Jerry "Reds" Donohoe Ronnie Dell'Aquila Richard Stell John Black Tom Beasley Ritchie Montgomery Dana Brunson Jennie Peace LeDan Peace Stan Moskowitz Marvin Moskowitz Ernie Carafa Jerry Swallow Juli Moon George Benjamin Mike Skiver
