Okay this is going to be one of those "Meaningful Story" tattoo stories. Deal with it. On 26 June, out of nowhere and with no previous symptoms my wife of 34 years had a Grand Mal seizure. On 26 July she had a brain tumor removed. On 30 July we learned that it was malignant and she has an 85% probability that she won't make it 18 months. But she's a fighter. 85% against just means there is a 15% probability she will make it. My wife spent her entire life fucking up the curve and that's not changing anytime soon. She was told that visualization is helpful. Make it a tangible "thing" you can combat. She takes chemo and radiation 5 days a week (for 6 weeks), then has a re-eval. She nicknamed the tumor "DLB" (dirty little bastard). I saw some flash on line and heard a 90's era song, added a little of this and that and the next thing you know I was in the chair. I hope you all like it:2 points

Mike does OK hannyas and snakes, so you should be good. Haha. Re: size, I told him that he could have as much of the front of my thigh as he wanted, so... I guess it will be kinda big? We'll see. Thanks for the encouragement guys, I'm so stoked! And I hope you get your baku too, @else!1 point

Love this! The snake is killer. I'm such a fan of Boltz's work, it's everything that a tattoo ever needs to be.1 point -
You certainly look like you're on the right track. I'll second the advice you are getting suggesting not to overthink things, as counterintuitive as that may seem. With a good artist, you can leave much of the design work to them. Also, a lot of the traditional photos you have provided would be best (in my opinion) with at least some color. Although I have to admit I have a strong bias towards colorful traditional work. Bold lines and strong colors seem to work pretty well and hold up over time. There is an excellent thread on these pages about what makes a good tattoo and the consensus seems to be that strong black lining and good shading forms the foundation of good tattoos. Color just adds a little extra spark, in my opinion. Not to mention, browsing through the various galleries here will demonstrate the truth behind that sentiment. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.1 point

Nice one! I'm getting zapped by him on Saturday. Not to speak for @Pugilist but she's getting tattooed by Mike Rubendall. A friend of ours is getting his first tattoo at the convention on Saturday, I'm trying to get him to come out after he's done. He will have earned a celebratory drink! It's going to be cool meeting you and your wife!1 point

How about an art show?
hogg reacted to smiling.politely for a topic
Not quite along the lines of most of the thread, but this is a sculpture I just finished for a local skateboard art show. Each deck does have a tattoo design stenciled onto it, except two that have some lettering in a taped off graffiti sort of style. This was just after the first test ride... I'll try to link to my buddy's Instavideo of it as well. Instagram I think I have a group shot of most of the boards, as well as a few more photos in action, if anyone would like to see them as well.1 point -
Sorry to hear what your family is going through, tough business.. Personally I dig traditional style, don't get me wrong realism is cool too.. This with a dagger would be way cool IMO, you mentioning a dagger makes me think traditional as well.1 point

Why are bad tattoos so popular?
Lucky Malony reacted to David Flores for a topic
This whole thread has become redundant to some degree, but I would like to point out that if someone wants to come in and get a nice tattoo, let's say a lady head, panther, or maybe a skull and dagger, and another person comes in and wants a paragraph of lettering on them, I guarantee you the person who wants the lettering is going to end up paying more for their tattoo. Maybe we are the only shop like that, but Ashley is happy to draw as much fancy custom script as you want while you wait, but he charges accordingly.1 point -
