  2. I too will be there on the Saturday and am booked in with Mr Rubendall. To say that I am excited is a bit of an understatement. Worth every minute of the 1200 mile round trip that I will have to make in 24 hrs to be able to go.

  7. My favorite recent personal experience. This was Monday. I was out for a jog, which is a sight in it of itself. I was crossing a street and noticed a small SUV teetering towards a stop sign, but thought nothing of it. As I passed I heard, "Hey, hey, excuse me." I stopped, assuming the person needed directions. I turned around..."What's up?" "You've got beautiful tats." "Uh, thank you..." "Do you ever let people photograph you? Would that be something you're interested in?" "No, that is not something I am interested in." I then jogged off. This exchange stayed with me the rest of my run. Mainly because I was near the park, and if the guy wanted a mouth fuck, he could've been more direct. I still would have said "no" but I appreciate a candid nature.

  11. I only get asked about my tattoos from drunk chicks that I don't know. Don't ask me why that is, but having been a "tattooed person" for a year now (not that it's a long time or anything), that's my experience. Now I am one of those persons that gets tattooed cause tattoos are cool, and I like the art and the looks of them. I don't have a fancy story about any of my tattoos, and some people seriously get angry because of it. They have obviously been watching too much TV if you ask me  One time, a drunk chick simply walked up to me, and asked about my tattoos. I told her that I just liked the look, and she started saying things like "Wow thats really dumb" and "Why would you want something permanently on your body, if it doesn't mean anything to you", and I just stood there looking baffled, instead of saying something back to her. I obviously should have told her how rude she was, but I never managed too do so. Now when chicks come asking me things, I make up some seriously lame story, and watch their reaction. So far not a single one has called me on it. E.g. I have a swallow, and it was my first tattoo, so one of my favorites are "Yeah, the swallow represents me moving to another city, away from home and starting my adult life, spreading my wings and becoming a man". They eat it up, and think I'm sooooo deep and amazing. Then I laugh my ass off, and walk away. It's kind of a fun hobby! :D

  12. I always answer any "isn't that gay" question the same way (as a statement of fact with no judgement intended): "Uh, no. The last time I checked, and correct me if I'm wrong, neither tattoos nor roses are gay. Two people of the same gender having sex together? Now that's gay."

    Salutations!

Thank you! I've got no pictures at the moment, but my favorite items thus far are my front panel (still very much 'in-progress') by Jeff Rassier at Blackheart Tattoo in San Francisco [a whale biting through a ship]; a cholo vulture on my leg from Nervio at Roses and Panthers in Hermosillo, Mexico; and my first tattoo, a zombie pin-up girl by Khalil Rintye at Tattoo City in San Francisco. I'll be starting on my neck with Derek Noble at Lucky Devil here in Seattle next month, so I'm more than a little excited about that. I'll post some pictures soon!

    Hello Everyone

Hello everyone. I'm glad I found this forum. I am still fairly new to the tattoo world, but I love it already. I am a defense contractor and the job gives me an opportunity to travel the world. I have decided to get a tattoo from all or most of the countries I visit. This seems like it will be a good place to find advice on possible shops or artists to visit as I travel around. So far I have received a tattoo in my hometown of Chicago, and a traditional bamboo tattoo from a monk in Thailand. I will be traveling through Germany, Norway and the Netherlands in September/October. any advice on places to check out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi everyone

here Marra from Italy, my love story with tattoos starts in 1999 with a couple of small tribal suns on my chest (would never get something like that in 2013 but i'm not gonna cover them up, it's part of my history and i wear them proudly!!), then a year and half japanese sleeve later i started a sort of apprenticeship in the small town i was livin in at the time (learnt to weld my own needles and hopefully forgot about this obsolete practice nowadays!!), then after moving (both me and the shop owner, different parts of the world) i had to put all of my equipment in the closet for a while. Around 5 years ago thanks to the money saved in time and to some friends working in some shops around i could finally put all of my efforts into tattooing again... i do work in a small shop since a couple of years and often travel to the French border to visit and work a little with one of my mentors... guess i had what i can call a gipsy apprenticeship which i dont feel is never over, even if i'm on my own right now. thats it... hope to have a good time here and to contribute as wisely as i can to the contents of the forum aswell as to get to know new friends and fellow mates! cheers!

    London Tattoo Convention 2013

I am getting some sort of mask on my upper left arm. Not sure exactly what. An Oni or Hannya I suspect. Would also quite like a Namakubi... Was tattooed by Henning at London last year so really looking forward to it. It's by far my favourite convention, just a bummer that I have to travel up and down from Scotland on the same day as I have to work Friday and Sunday...Would love to be there all weekend Are you getting tattooed on the Saturday too?

  28. plastic wrap is cheap at the grocery store, sterile bandages from a medical supply place cost more. like @daveborjes said, it's just to get you home. usually because some local health dept requires you to leave with something on it. it's not for healing the tattoo up. so whatevers on it, take it off when you get somewhere to wash it up and do your first aftercare ritual.

    Pre and post-tattoo rituals

I eat a good meal a couple of hours before the session. I usually try to keep it healthy. Lean meat and lots of vegetables. Afterwards I often pick up a large fruit smoothie. The last couple of sessions have ended with a meal and a Tom Collins while putting my feet up. So no hard and fast rules. I just try to be well rested, well-fed, and I'm good to go!

I think it's a pretty safe rule of thumb to just follow your tattooers aftercare instructions. For any different methods you can discuss that with them to see if they think it's a good idea. Different methods will work better for different people.

    Tattoo Soundtracks

Music being played at the shop I frequent is all over the place. From Christian Death, to Biohazard, to Tupac, to some odd electronic music, to someone messing around with youtube playing weird videos. I will say as much as I enjoy some really heavy metal it is not the best to get tattooed to. I feel it is too damn hard to relax.

  41. The best thing you can do is what I did - wait until you are old to get your tattoos and that way you'll probably be dead before they begin to fade! That's my plan and I'm sticking too it. I also don't have to wait to see what they look like when I get old. I can just look in the mirror! :)

    Relationships and tattoos

When I met my husband, he had just a couple of tattoos but planned to get much more work, while I was untattooed and planned to stay that way. We were both fine with that situation, and it didn't figure into our attraction for each other. A few years after we married he confided to me that although he was still fine with my lack of ink, he did find tattooed women to be very attractive, and sort of sheepishly and politely asked if I would consider getting one. This was not something I wanted to hear, but I love him, so I asked him to tell me more. He said that he always found tattooed women to be extremely attractive, and sexy. I could see that it was something he really wanted. I asked him what what he would like for me to get and where, and he said he'd like something feminine wrapping around my upper arm, sort or of a quarter sleeve. I really had no interest in getting a tattoo, certainly nothing that large, and especially not in such a visible location. But we discussed it. I heard his desire, and he listened to my objections. I understood that he would find a tattoo on me to be attractive, and he understood that I was very, very reluctant. He said he would accept a "no" if that is how I felt. But I told him that I would think about it. I gave it a lot of thought and decided I wanted to please him if I could. I examined my tattoo objections, and realized that it was the visibility that bothered me. After a lot of thought I decided that I would be willing to step out of my comfort zone and get a tattoo, but in a “non-public” location. We compromised, and I got a a tattoo on the front of my hip where it would not be seen even if I was in my normal one-piece bathing suit. It made him very happy, and I was happy to be able to please him. Most importantly, it was MY decision and I did not feel forcibly coerced into the tattoo. And just to show you how things can go unexpectedly: He soon extended his tattoos slightly into fairly modest shoulder/sleeve caps, and surprisingly decided that he was finished, and didn't want any more tattoos. For me, it turned out that I loved my tattoo – so much so, that I now have eight, with no further prodding from my husband, including two including two half sleeves! In the end, hubby got the arm tattoo on me that he originally wanted, and much, much more! I am now planning a full back piece, and I'm sure I will get more after that. And now I'm pestering him to get more ink, because I think it is pretty attractive on him too! I think that now if, heaven forbid, something were to happen to my husband, and I were to settle down with someone new, he would have to be tattooed. It is big part of my existence now, and I have come to find tattooed men to be very attractive. I don't think an uninked man could truly understand or appreciate me now.

(A shit ton, apparently). @Stewart Robson I'm super stoked that you are a part of this show too!:) (admirer from a far) (also in a non-creepy way) ;)
