  3. I'm just getting into Ball Pythons and all the insane morphs you can create via selective breeding. So far I have these 4... This is a Sugar Ball Python This is a Fire Ball Python This is an Enchi Ball Python This is a Piebald Ball Python Wednesday I'm expecting a pair of High Contrast Albino Ball Pythons, here is the female... and next Wednesday I'm expecting these 2 from a breeder in Montana... Black Pastel Ball Python Leopard Ball Python Check this out, this is the offspring of a Leopard and I believe a Pastel Ball Python. All of these names I'm using refer to the gene they carry. This guy doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of how awesome these guys can get! I'm hooked!! :D.. @Iwar, you'll have to check them out when you come by and pick me up on the way to SF!!

  4. I've had both here in the US. The "gauze" I had wasn't REALLY gauze, it was more of an ABD pad with a plastic outer side. Anyway, whatever they put I leave it on while I sleep and don't open the bastard till the morning to clean and toss the old dressing. Here's how I look at it: Either way is fine. I don't think the absorbant pad is going to suck out any ink. It's just soaking up sweat and plasma and blood, ANY ink would be oozing out anyway with the plasma and other fluids. The plastic wrap, same, it's uncomfortable maybe but it'll keep your sheets clean and be a barrier for the giant open wound you just paid for. When the plastic wrap was used, the dudes always taped a folded paper towel to the bottom rim to catch any dripping ooze. Taking either off right after exposes the tattoo to a world of bacteria, even if you're cleaning the thing. SO I say leave it on, let what's there be there, in the morning toss the crap and never re-wrap. I know some people re-wrap for sleep. I don't like creating a moist/body temp environment on my giant open wound for bacteria to have an orgy in. THAT'S ME. I've done the re-wrap and it's never done anything one way or the other but cost me plastic wrap. So blah blah blah, I don't think it REALLY matters and it's a personal thing.

  10. Nobody in the world cares about my tattoos. But I really like them. I've got a bird friend on my shoulder who will be with me always. Poor little Squeaky, the real bird, died when I was away. I never got to say good-bye and now I don't have to because Squeaky is always there on my shoulder. I've got a story of hiking a long trail on my leg. If I ever get Alzheimer's I will probably at least remember that experience since it's right there on my leg to remind me of all that I saw and did out there. I've got big blue roses. Lots of color. I was hated and criticized mercilessly all my life for being ugly but now I have pretty colors on my skin to make me happy. And finally, my butterfly. First time I went to a tattoo shop the artist there told me of giving an old lady a tattoo of a butterfly on her arm because she had always wanted one. There are so many things in life I've always wanted to do and it took me a while to realize that someday never comes. Do it now. And even though a barely-graduated apprentice did my butterfly, he cleverly mirrored the motif of the leaves of my roses and tied it all together. I feel like I carry a flower garden and a little bit of spring around with me wherever I go. I claimed my body from those who had prior claims, defined it my own way, not theirs, and made it my own. Nobody cares about my tattoos, some people probably scorn me for them, and for that I even feel more grateful because against their disapproval, here I am, taking up space with my garden and my memories, just being me.

  11. I kind of feel that most traditional wolf tattoos are based on a handful of designs so that if you wanted a tattoo like that it might be easier to find someone in your area--or travel for it if you're inclined towards that--who does solid traditional and get them to tattoo it.

    First tattoo

1974, just days after I turned 18. Skinny, long-haired rock-n-roller. In some name-unknown parlor on Chippewa Street in Buffalo, NY (which at the time was skid row = Junkies, Prostitutes, rank bars and tattoo parlors). Flash from the wall. As with the times, I don't remember much if any of the experience. Here's what's left of it:

And a BEL for anyone curious... As far as their demeanor they're pretty mellow. You can tell when they're a little pissy and may strike. All and all if you know how to handle them you're pretty safe :D

Well, if by people you mean my husband...yes. But what does he know--he's from Boston. ;) It is! We are both from New England... I used to say "wicked" to make fun of people saying "wicked". Until one day when I realized it had become second nature. Now I like it all the more because I miss Boston. I think @DJDeepFried is just still trying to assimilate to CA culture by switching over to their terminology...whether it's SoCal or NoCal...and even though he's lived here for about 20 years already.

  17. In terms of awesome experiences, I had a wonderful life moment this past weekend. I'll try to cut a long story short. Wish me luck ;) As a bit of back story, I posted in this thread last month that I am a guitar player by trade and played the Montreal Jazz Festival with the band "Soulstack" (by far my favourite band of the handful that I work with). There is a video of that show in that post if anyone cares to check it out. Anyway, we had a road trip this weekend to play at a couple of festivals in Quebec and Ontario respectively. Our first show was in Donnacona, Quebec on Friday night but we drove up Thursday so as not to be rushed and be fresh for our show the next day. We pulled in to our 2 star motel in the middle of nowhere QC at around midnight after an 11 hour drive. We settled in and had some well deserved beers. A little more backstory. Johnny Winter is a famed blues guitarist/singer from Texas with a long and storied career and is still out on the road at the age of 70 or so. He has been my ultimate superhero since I was 8 years old. That in itself is a long story hahaha...Let's just say that he has been one of the most important musical inspirations in my life. We knew that Johnny was playing the same festival that evening and joked that there was no chance he would be staying at the same kinda lame motel as us. Turns out we were wrong ;) One of my bandmates was out for a smoke and sent me a text saying "Dude! Johnny Winter is here!" I ran out to the parking lot to see a modest motorhome and through the blinded window I saw the long white hair of the man. I was freaked. I am shamefully star struck I must admit, even though I fully understand the absurdity of being so. At that point, I went back to my room and kinda paced around for a while not believing the circumstances I had found myself in. I had the door propped open and I saw Johnny walk past on the way to his room 2 doors down! More freaked!!!! I overheard their road manager tell the band that they would be leaving at 10am. I was in the lobby by 830 lol. I am very shy by nature and have missed out on a great deal of cool experiences because of it but, I could not live wth myself had I not made the effort to meet my hero, especially since the opportunity had really just fallen into my lap ( I do belive things happen for a reason and don't belive in coinsidence;) As he fired up the motorhome, I asked guitarist/road manager Paul if there was a chance I could meet Mr. Winter. He said that Johnny would be coming out at 10 to get onboard and that once he got settled in, I could come in and say hi. I was scared shitless but so fucking stoked. I got on the 'bus', said a few words, shook his hand and got a pic taken with him. I had a million thngs I wanted to say but, I didn't wanna be that guy so I said very little and have no regrets. I just wanted to be in his presence for a moment and not be a bother. He was sweet and gracious. It felt like a dream to me and still does. If anyone reads this far, thank you for indulging me hahaha...Writing it out has helped to digest the experince a little more;) I'll post a pic from my meeting and also, as an aside lol, a link about Mr. Winter's cool tattoos. If you scroll down, you can find the entire article from Tattoo mag. Pretty cool! http://www.yee.ch/winter/Mags/winter_mags_1989.html

  21. *waves some cheerleader pom poms* Yup, it's your skin so who gives a flying fuck. I personally won't criticise someone's tattoos for that exact reason. Also no matter how small and crappy one's may seem it was a moment in their life where that was awesome for them even if it was a random flash on the wall they picked purely for wanting a tattoo.

  23. I am right there with you. I love my tattoos. They are not anything special to most people but they mean the world to me. Don't ever let anyone look down on you because you have placed your story and your character on your skin. I think that no matter how "simple", "boring" or "too mainstream" your ink is, it is special and unique to you. Own it and wear it proudly, those looking down on you are just jealous!!!

  28. It is sad to see someone who was once so vital and dynamic loose a few steps. I saw him in that period as well and felt the same way. While he kinda looks like hell, he is actually doing a lot better now than then. He has put on some weight and seems pretty lucid. He still has a hard time getting around on his own and he's very nearly blind (and has been for years) but, he saw my hand as I extended it to him to shake. I did not get to hear him play this time around as our shows were the day after his on both festivals. I did see him 2 years ago at my hometown's blues festival and he was fantastic. The first time I saw him was in '84. He played a club here in town and I got in with fake ID as a 16 year old hahaha.....it changed my life!

    Upcoming Tattoos

With apologies to Sir Elton John... Sa-tur-day Sa-tur-day Sa-tur-day TATTOO DAY!! 12:30 this Saturday I get my boxer girl done. She's a Flapper looking gal wearing a cross and has a gray ribbon tattoo on her bicep. Been over and over the design with the Artist and I'm very eager to see his final rendition. She will either reside on my right forearm or left upper arm, depending on how she flows.

    Framing Original Artwork

I'm a fan of just slapping stuff in weird old thrift store frames. Takes work to find them and make a matte, but whatever. Works fine enough for me. I don't get going to a framer, but honestly all I have are prints, nothing original, so I don't need to worry about screwing them up physically in the long term.

    Framing Original Artwork

After 8 months I finally got around to dropping my 3 Thom deVita pieces off at the local frame shop. The price tag on a custom frame job is humbling to say the least but I picked out a simple frame that has distressed finish and paired it with black matting. I'm excited about being able to properly display these awesome pieces. I'll post the finished product when I pick them up the week.

  39. Can't wait to see these... just watching the trailer, it hit me how amazing it was to get to go there this summer. As some random kid from the middle of America, seeing all of the walls, getting tattooed by Jordan and Stefano, being there for Dante and Lal Hardy's banter one day, and (as important as the quality of the tattoos) everyone being so nice almost seems like a dream. Hopefully, the next time I'm there, I can hear another of Jordan's "hori-" jokes, and Stewart may have his hair in pigtails again.

    Rotary vs. Coil

It's always weird cause everytime you get tattooed it feels different so it's hard to say what hurts less. I really don't have a clue. Coil does sound more aggressive for sure. In regards to the getting through the pain.I have much respect for people who sit through long tattoo sittings, I wouldn't say I have a high threshold for pain, but I guess if I want to get a tattoo I have to find a way to get through it. The best advice I have ever been given is to sit there and take it. You can take pain killers, rub cream on there, or whatever ritual you have, but the only answer is to accept the pain and try to relax, at times it sure sucks, but to me that's part of the accomplishment.

    Red Ink Question

The best and most durable inks are still made with powder pigments and natural binders. I just made some last week. My mentors all use the same thing. I'll bet 95% of the tattoo that get the most 'likes' on this forum are made with these types of ink. The 'Newer' types of ink (pre-dispersed) are made with synthetic binders (plastic for lack of a better word) and are completely unnatural and have many many more allergic reaction problems with many clients. I could go on and on but he tech info isn't really what I'm trying to get into. Just trust that the powder inks we're talking about are still the best to use. Lets see if the skin candy dude pops up here in this thread to talk about that crap he pushes.

    Who are you?

An update: Im dating a really rad girl that I've had a crush on for three years. I told her that I always try to get the people I date to agree to move to North Carolina with me. She said "where in North Carolina?" instead of no. "Asheville" I replied. "Oh. You mean where my parents live? Where I plan to move in a few years?" Little cartoon hearts erupted over my head.
