    hello / tattoo styles

Welcome Scott, my opinion is that mixing styles is pretty rad. - - - Updated - - - Here's one from Henning Jorgenson's instagram from a few months ago. The front was done by Grime, the rooster by Scott Sylvia, the eagle by Tim Lehi, and Henning tied it all together with background and did the armpits. I think that looks super rad.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I had my consult today and we are going to start in July of next year, or earlier if he has any cancellations. I'm super stoked, the tattoo is going to be amazing, and I just get such a good vibe from him and that shop.

    Hi all!

Hi! My name is Candy and I am relatively new into my tattoo journey. So far I have 3 tattoos. Really probably only 1 "decent" one but the 2 smaller ones still meant something at the time and still sort of do. My most recent is a celtic tree of life in the inside of my left wrist/forearm. This was my present to myself for toughing it out living so far away from my family and support network and to symbolise how much I've evolved. I have at least 4 more designs in my head and one currently being drawn up at the shop. The one being drawn up is a rather puffy ribbon bow and that with go on my upper back. I am wanting a nautical star on my right foot with leopard print instead of the standard colours (being Australian I think the standard colours sort of don't fit and leopard print is way more me). On my left foot I want a vintage lipstick case and cats eye sunglasses so even when I'm in my running gear I can still have my lippy with me. I also want a pixie and a fat smiling buddha on me at some point but those designs are going to be worked, reworked and reworked again because they'll be in honour of my 2 children. Pixie and Buddha are their nicknames. I am so stoked to stumble across this forum and see all of the helpful info. It's one thing to google around for info but another to see a heap of people helping each other out. Anyway, I'm going to segway this with a little issue. My inner wrist/forearm piece is 7 days old and I have lost most of the scab. I popped in to my tattooist yesterday and it was only a small section missing but now it's a rather large quantity gone. The design underneath is no where near dark enough. Is it due to the skin being super stretchy in this area or issues with aftercare? I can't contact the shop until Wednesday (small town) and was hoping to rectify any problems that may be in the aftercare so I can try to hold onto the rest of the ink. Hoping I'm not pissing anyone off by turning my intro post into a help post ;)

    Rotary vs. Coil

It's always weird cause everytime you get tattooed it feels different so it's hard to say what hurts less. I really don't have a clue. Coil does sound more aggressive for sure. In regards to the getting through the pain.I have much respect for people who sit through long tattoo sittings, I wouldn't say I have a high threshold for pain, but I guess if I want to get a tattoo I have to find a way to get through it. The best advice I have ever been given is to sit there and take it. You can take pain killers, rub cream on there, or whatever ritual you have, but the only answer is to accept the pain and try to relax, at times it sure sucks, but to me that's part of the accomplishment.

  17. I made my $500 goal! Woot! There was at least one LST member in there- I really do appreciate it! I'm going to raise my fundraising goal but be far less aggressive about it.. our team is trying to raise $1500 and right now, I'm a 1/3 of that. Let the other five members sweat, I say. Did I mention we're going to be wearing matching 'seventies gym teacher' shorts? Oh yeah. It's going to be uncomfortable for everyone running behind us.

  18. Every single one of my tattoos is black & grey, so I don't have the luxury of the "fruity pebbles" experience. Instead, my girlfriend calls my flaking black tattoo remnants "hamster poop". Equally as breakfast-appropriate, if you ask me.

Dave's a rad dude. He did a super cool Oni on the back of my right thigh when he was in Vancouver for the convention this past April. He's such an incredible tattooer and he's always a good hang.

  21. If that's the case you're getting tattooed at the wrong places. Why would you get a tattoo from someone whom you can't trust for input and guidance? If you tell us where you're located we can maybe recommend some good shops in you area instead.

    Hi all!

Welcome, and actually, we prefer it here if your intentions are for help that you do so in your intro thread. My advice is to let it heal completely (usually two weeks) and then go speak to your tattooer. Tattoos always lighten up in comparison to first application, but any questions you might have your tattooer should be able to answer. You mentioned you wanted a fat smiling "Buddha." You're actually wanting Hotei, a folklore deity. I believe he is considered to be an "enlightened" character, but he isn't to be confused with Guatama Buddha. Finally, good luck!

I would seriously reconsider using this stuff. I talked to a tattoo artist that’s doing my backpiece about this and the ink doesn't take that well. It also disrupts the healing process. He told me he can tell when someone uses this stuff even if they don't tell him. Just man up and take the pain. It’s part of the journey towards something truly awesome.

    Tatt2away?

I've recently joined a private LinkedIn group for tattoo removal specialists, and this recently came up. All of the members, most of them doctors, have said this stuff leaves scars and changes the skin texture on the clients they've seen healed treatments on.

  36. You should be used to it by now? The skull is pretty cool, I will say that. There has to be a common ground, I mean the skaters didn't care for the BMX kids, but they could agree they hated the rollerbladers, we just need to find the rollerbladers.

    Ink Masters

I remember saying that but probably in a slightly different context. I pretty sure I didn't mean that because I chose not to part of 'normal' society that I feel any kinship with others who choose, at a cursory glance, a similar path. I choose my associates by different criteria than if we 'modify' our appearance or not. My enemy's enemy isn't necessarily my friend. When somebody decides to become heavily tattooed, I WILL judge them on their tattoos and overall appearance as I expect to be judged on mine. This does not mean that my judgement is always correct but I can make an educated guess that, for example; if someone has 99% crappy tattoos of whatever/every fad and movie-star tattoo of the last two decades that we won't be discussing the symbolism of Kafka and the spirit of Burroughs. Conversely, just because someone has mostly buddhist or various theological themes that we will have an enriching and enlightening discussion. Appearances can be deceptive but serve as an indicator or advertisement of our intent. I feel justified on reading the signals presented and making a judgement call to allow this or that person to take up space and time in my life. I'm sometimes wrong and enjoy the surprise but it happens so rarely that it won't make me re-consider. Kinda reminds me of being a teenager and meeting people with obscure tastes in extreme metal, only to be disappointed when that was the only interest we shared. Or that they liked it for different reasons. Sorry to derail the flow of a TV based thread. I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not a crusader for acceptance. Actually, I'm all for elitism and critical thinking (especially with regards to quality) when it comes to tattoos. The being able to 'back up' tattoos thing - I don't really care, it's not my argument but... I know I'm a tourist with regards to Japanese tattooing. I wear it, I do it, I'm not Japanese etc, etc. I love it but I'm still another foreigner dazzled by the 'exotic' nature of tattooing. I guess most of us are, just some of us spend a lot more time thinking up retroactive excuses for authenticity. I haven't seen any Ink Master since the first episodes of season one but I'm glad it exists. Friends, colleagues and customers of mine get to goof off and air their opinions on TV while still showing that they care about tattooing. One of them said to me that Ink Master isn't for 'us'. It's for people who want to watch reality TV. At least the judges, guest judges and host give a shit about good tattoos. They get to represent 'us' to the people who watch reality TV. I'm cool with Oliver, Dave, Seth Ciferri, Forrest, Jack Rudy etc etc representing 'us'.
