  1. Ah what, the hell, I'll give this a try this month. This was done by Thomas Hooper in five sessions between October 2012 and June 2013, mostly at Saved but with one session at the Rochester Convention:

  5. Thanks for the very warm welcome and the positive feedback, its fantastic and a testament to the quality of this forum. I certainly understand what your talking about @cltattooing, i personally like my bio-mech as evil as possible. I see alot of more bio-organic stuff popping up in more recent times, and a lot of it is stunning work, but for my money, the bio-mech style really lends itself to some evil looking ink. Skulls, bones, gears...Bring it on haha. - - - Updated - - - Pinstriped skull i mentioned earlier @SStu It still healing so ill put this image up from just after completion.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

This is a portrait of my pops that I had done last week by Juan Arreguin (El Super) in his shop Superfly Tattoo here in Leon Guanajuato Mexico. If any of you are from Vancouver, you might recognize the name because he used to work at Rain City. August 12th is my fathers birthday, and the National Airborne Day is August 16th. Figured this would be a good way to honor him.

  8. I remember the first time I saw an Aaron Cain sleeve in person. It was 6 or 7 years old and it was still the most solid as fuck thing I had ever laid eyes on. I think we often have discourse here about what makes a tattoo a tattoo, and bio mech is a prime example where there are varying degrees of what constitutes a "good" tattoo. I think Grime, Aaron, and Phil Holt have accomplished it beautifully. Black/bold sculpted lines and solid well blended color. Holds up, looks rad.

  11. Great idea for a thread! I'm sure I'll think of many things to add to this thread but the first one that comes to mind is how this plainskinned girl at work was asking about my tattoos and she was super complimentary about them, really appreciated that they're nice, well made tattoos and then she commented that I clearly cared a lot about my tattoos "unlike those other people who get them on dares". Other than the fact that it seems most people who have a tattoo or two put way too much thought and meaning into their tattoos, I am kind of offended by the comment because I would get a tattoo on a dare.

  12. @cltattooing The Raven Steals The Light was a big part of the inspiration there. One of the references I gave him was Bill Reid's drawing on the cover of his book retelling that and other Haida stories, but I wanted it in his style rather than in the formline one. I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out...it far surpassed my expectations for the tattoo. @SStu I gave him an idea and references, but the credit here is all his in taking my references and figuring out what I wanted from them and how to turn them in a beautiful, powerful, and coherent tattoo.

  14. Mental effort. Hard work and repetition. In my opinion drawing (like most 'creative' endeavours) is roughly: 30% physical, 60% mental (around two thirds of this percentage is learning to 'see' the rest is thinking and analysing) 10% talent.

  15. Something a bit different to the tattoos you usually see on here. I know you guys love the Traditional stuff, but I like too many different styles to stick to just one :) Tattoo by Remis Cizauskas who works out of Dublin Ireland, but is currently "On The Road" guest spotting and attending conventions worldwide.

  16. Well, personally, I was trying to get across that normally I do not like bio-mech tattoos, but his are exceptionally good and I enjoy them. Basically, definitely opened my eyes a bit about them.

  18. My girlfriend and I are going to be staying in SF near the airport somewhere I believe. We're renting a car and going straight to Spider Murphys in San Rafael as soon as we land to get tattooed by Stuart. Then the next day we're going back to San Rafael to get tattooed by Alex Graham at Lucky Drive. I tried getting an appt with Freddy but unfortunately I was too late and he was already booked up for the time we will be there.

  19. How horrible that you got a tattoo taken from the highest selling book series of all time and other people got it too. But yeah, claiming to understand things on a much deeper level than everybody else isn't hipster behavior at all.

  20. Things people say to us about our tattoos have been mentioned in many threads, but I thought it might be fun to read quick snippets of what people say all in one place. We were just on a 2 week trip visiting family in MA & CT. We swung by Custom Cobra while in MA, nice shop but we didn't get any tattoos. Here are a couple one liners from the trip: MIL to hubby, "You're thinking of getting another one?" That struck me as funny because of the word one. FIL to hubby during same conversation, "You know what they say...sometimes less is more!" My friend's little 5-year-old son saw my arm and was impressed with the tiger (his favorite animal) but still said, "You're gonna be sorry." My friend told me he got that from his uncle. I set him straight. Friend of my husband's family saw my sleeve and asked, "Is that a real tattoo?" None of the comments were mean-spirited and I'm not easily offended, they were just kind of funny to me.

  27. I never really cared to much about this......my first was a visible tattoo before tattoos became "fashionable." I don't think I ever "planned" to be this heavily covered BUT I am seeing it happen a lot more now than it was happening 15 years ago! People seem to be rushing to get covered for some reason not thinking what those tattoos are gonna look like in 40 years! Take your time.....get good tattoos.....and if you are worried about what others think of your tattoos then you probably aren't someone who should be getting tattooed! (that last comment was not directed at any one person.....just in general)

    Hello from Mexico

Hi everyone, my name is Ben and I am living in Mexico (from Alaska). I have been lurking a while and figured I would go ahead and join. I have been getting tattoos for a while now, in the beginning most were pretty standard, not very well done. I have become a little more selective in who I choose to tattoo me now. Here are a few examples of pieces I have had worked on lately. Rock of Ages - top part is covering an old orca whale that I had. Portrait of my dad when he was young and in the army - paratrooper! Jonah and the fish - This needs some more work, but should look sweet once finished, I hope! Anyways I appreciate the membership and look forward to talking tattoos with all of you! - - - Updated - - - Viking bulldog from a few weeks ago. Cholo/Chicano skull

  40. I'm going to second this. I used to have ideas of how things were going to go together, and I still kind of have rough ideas and plans, but mostly when it comes down to picking a design and placement I'm all about spur of the moment decisions. I figure that it's all going to end up as one tattoo more or less anyway so I don't stress out about it.

  42. I'm with @Cork in that balance was a huge consideration. Started with a half sleeve which then was made into a 3/4 sleeve on my left arm. In my mind, had to 3/4 sleeve my right arm as well and from there went below the waist to my left thigh, then began a shoulder to back of knees back piece. Eventually will get a piece on the right thigh to balance out the left. Hadn't planned on anything for my chest/stomach area and chatting with an artist about a calf sleeve but it's just a thought for the moment. My motif is Japanese, strictly animals/creatures and florals. As much as I love them, won't consider any gods or demons for superstitious reason in which I addressed in a separate thread on the forum. Placement was a big consideration for the subject matter.
