  2. Hi all. Pretty sure you can guess my name, but just in case....... I am Dave, currently in Nottingham UK. Signed up here ages ago, but for some reason never got around to posting. Got my first tattoo over 20 years ago (rubbish), then started getting ink again around 3 - 4 years ago. Have got work from Gray Silva and Rachael Huntington both @ Rampant Ink Nottingham, Yayzus @ Voodoo Boston Lincolnshire, Mark Boyle @ Nothing Sacred tattoo Stockton-on-Tees and my most recent piece by Ben "Mr. Benjamin" Stone @ Lifetime Derby. Always on the lookout for new artists to add to my collection as time and $$$ allows. Hope to contribute instead of lurking now. Cheers.

  9. Good evening everyone. I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Shelly. I'm here in Virginia beach and got my first tattoo in 1994. I'm nearing my 40's and have no intention of slowing on my ink expressions. In fact I've picked up. Just last week on July 27th, I sat for my longest session...10 for my left forearm. I will say, I was a lil under the weather the next day. Much rest, fluids and Motrin were in order. When finished, it will be a fairy with monarch butterfly wings, emerging from her chrysalis.... All of my tattoos in the past until this one, have been able to be covered should I need. This one is way down onto my hand. I felt like, I might as well go all the way. I'm LOVING the piece! I'm finishing it up on aug 16th at the tattoo vest ..the first one ever in Virginia beach! Can't wait to hear the buzz again. I'll post pics if I can figure out how lol Thanks so much to those that have posted great info and pics that I've lurked on. Hahha Looking forward to great friends and great discussions on here. Shelly

    Who are you?

Hello! My Name is Bethany, I'm 22. I've lived in Irving, Tx like my whole live. I'm a single mom of a beautiful little ginger names Alice. I'm completely obsessed with Harry Potter and Bioshock!---I'm a Trekie.---LOVE horror and sci-fi. Freddy Kruger is the bomb! And love to read and love music. My favorite books include The Harry Potter series, 1984, Enders Game, The Uglies series, Animal Farm, The Count of Monte Cristo. My favorite music varies from Rob Zombie (playing at Mayhem this sunday!! woot!) to the Beatles and The Band Perry. I'm for some reason creepily interested in serial killers....and....Hitler....and the Occult and other wired dark things. Especially the plague....And other diseases and science. Like Eugenics. That shit's cool. I am not racist....or want to or have an urge to kill people but i think that people that do are interesting. I only have 2 tattoos right now. they're very simple. I'm wanting much much more but funds are tight and unlike other enthusiasts I'm not gonna live in my car so that i can have bad ass tattoos. Not that that's a problem. To each his own man! I want a phoenix on my back and an Alice in Wonderland sleeve type piece. Not really a sleeve but like across the shoulder to maybe top-mid top bicep. They will go with the 2 I already have. I want a Bioshock piece currently of the bunny mask with the Quote "I want to take the ears off!" Bc Sander Cohen is freaking boss! But when I'm done reading Rapture (the book that was written as a prequel to the video game) that might change my mind to something else. ummm if you want you can add me on facebook.......I just get on there to look at picture i don't really post stuff. My profile picture is the Star Trek equal rights symbol. Bc I love the gays! And its a running joke between me and my friends that i was a gay man in a past life.

  11. Also when the t-shirt inevitably sticks to your new tattoo, don't pull it off, but jump into the shower with the shirt on and when it's wet it will come away without pulling on the tattoo.

  12. Tenderly & passionately. Tell it that you love it and nibble gently on its ears. No, seriously, I suggest a tshirt for at least the first night or so, something soft that can serve as a bandage but still allow it to breathe. Some folks will probably say go sleeveless to prevent chafing, but I've never had a problem. I've had both of my inner biceps done recently and there is nothing you can do to prevent incidental rubbing, but you can prevent any actual detrimental effects with common sense and generally being careful.

  16. When I met my (now EX) husband I already had a tattoo and he didn't have any. He decided to get one but didn't want me to get anymore as he didn't really like them on women  We have now split up and I have recently started dating again and had a brief fling with an old friend who has lots of tattoos. Tattooed people are more interesting naked ;)

  19. perhaps casually leave episodes of tattoo age and the gypsy gentleman playing around the house, haha nah, I dunno, you can't force anyone to mine anything. It does boggle my mind that after such huge advancements in the last 10 years, that anyone could still not even appreciate them. To each their own!

  21. Second viewing starting now. Probably the second of many ;) ......and yes, I caught a lot more the second time around (Hanky Panky's hair LOL! thanks @cltattooing ) There is so much to take in, especially visually. Aside from posts here on LST in the past few months, this is my first major exposure to the work of Shige. My mind is officially blown! If I had to make one criticism, it would be that Marcus needs to make his questions more concise and much less wordy. I felt really bad for the interpreter lol :)

  22. Well I'm not too shy, I just have a habit for mistaking strangers for people I know (something I do on the regular). If you do happen to see me feel free to yell something at me.

  23. Usually I try to follow the artist's recommendations on aftercare, but a little FYI, I actually dry-heal all of my tattoos. It may suck a bit but really they have all healed fine. Your mileage may vary.

  24. As others mentioned, this episode was phenomenal. Shige and Horiyoshi were both awesome interviewees, also both were inspiring. Was talking to the woman about the fact that no matter the craft or trade, dedication is that one thing that usually sets the greats apart from the rest, and I really appreciated that both mentioned how they've dedicated their lives fully to tattooing and that it's their lives. Shige was getting existential on our ass as well. Can't wait for part two. Also, I'd like to have a beer with Marcus. Dude seems like such a cool guy.

  25. For future tattoos, the aftercare/healing thread has some good info on overnight wrapping. Just be sure to clean it really thoroughly when the bandage is off to prevent irritation or infection. But yeah, keeping the initial wrap on can help with healing time, weeping, and getting stuck to your sheets.

Can you just go? You refuse to get your head out of the sand, you don't want help, you want smiles and gold stars. Fuck it. Your original tattoo sucks, you're going to make it worse by going to the ocean, and now you want us to help you find some kind of stock photo to help you get a new sick tat from the same shitty artist who did your last one. You don't want help, you want a pat on the back and a tattoo idea spoon fed to you.

  27. I really liked the video... I noticed that Shige's tattoos look great in pictures, but then they actually showed some of the tattoos on film, with moving, breathing people... So dynamic, it's hard to explain. It's better than the pictures. And I was astounded by the colors more so than I was when I saw the pictures. Also, I saw the hanya backpeice that has been copied so many times... all those copies suck, the original was just beautiful

Shige is truly a warrior of life. He makes me feel inadequate at a human. I love his analogy of how tattoos are like fireworks. Thank you, Marcus - wherever you are!! (snif)

    1st Tat

The only thing I can think of is Tegaderm. It is made by 3M and could provide with the waterproof barrier, but also adds another risk of breeding infection inside of the bandage. We all know that tattoos are just giant open wounds which need to breathe. When you trap bacteria in with water proof/air tight bandages you are susceptible to all sorts of infections. You know whats worse than a shitty tattoo? Staph infection from a pool full of dirty kids and nasty adults in an under developed country. But I'm not a medic or anything.

    Another laser chronicle

8 weeks after my 4th session: Dropped by Eye Candy just over a week ago and Randy Muller seems quite happy with the results and advises we're easily to a fade level that will give him good options for a cover. He took a couple of pictures and we'll consult again in a couple of weeks. Hoping to be starting on my back piece in September.

    Tattooing!

That's interesting, why? edit: Actually, no.. don't have to justify this. People come here to learn, I'm not a mod, and I don't feel the need to display any sense of importance by telling people off who don't know their dick from their toe when it comes to tattoos.

  37. Funny story about this... I told this girl I know (not girlfriend) that I was thinking of getting a traditional Jesus head tattooed on my chest. She then goes on to tell me that it would be super awkward for any girl that I end having sex with, because when they look up they would see Jesus. True story.

    Book thread

Based on the response in the "Who Are You?" thread, I decided to start a thread about books you're currently reading or wanting to read or have influenced you or make good paper weights/bludgeons. I hope I don't sound like an intellectual snob, but one of the first things I look for when I'm invited into someone's house is a bookshelf. I don't judge anyone on their reading choices; instead, I see a bookshelf as window into a person's interests and passions, whether it's Plato, Patricia Cornwell, or Clymer's repair manuals. On my shelf I have Wolfe, Kesey, Thompson, the Bhagavad Gita, Chicano literature, true crime paper backs, travel books, and art/reference books. Currently, I'm reading "The Hero with a 1000 Faces" by Joseph Campbell. I started my Joseph Campbell journey via a conversation with AP Shrewsbury while I was getting tattooed (very interesting and nice guy BTW) about symbolism and myth. I went through "The Power of Myth" pretty quickly; it's written in an interview format between Bill Moyers and Campbell. "The Hero..." on the other hand, is dense and very academic. I was kind of turned off in the intro, but then it started to get interesting with Campbell's mythological anecdotes connecting cultural ideas about spirituality and purpose. Next up is Jodorowsky's "The Way of the Tarot", which I'm reading as a companion to the Telos Tarot I got through Shrewsbury. I'll give a run down when I finally get through "The Hero..."

  39. As some of you might already know I'm heading out your way for some tat action in September, and I'd love to hang out with some fellow LSTers whilst visiting. The schedule so far is: 15-18 Los Angeles 18-22 San Francisco 22-27 Los Angeles I'll be hooking up with @ian for the San Francisco trip, and there's also been some talk about an official LST get together/3 year anniversary around that time, but that's still up in the air. Either way, it would be really cool to meet some of ya'll in person! Already looking forward to seeing @hogg and @dcostello again :) I have nothing planned when I return to Los Angeles, so tips on cool shit do do in LA is also welcome!

  47. Totally! Great tattoo and adopting a pet? Doesn't get much better than that. Congratulations on both. - - - Updated - - - I went to The Pearl today with my wife to keep her company as she was finally getting the Buddha tattoo she's wanted for ages from Daniel Innes. It looks amazing! I'll post the first pic of it, but Dan is having her back in a few weeks to do some of the fine detail on the Buddha's garments. And since I was there anyway... I picked up a cool little boxer I'd been meaning to get for a while. Typically, Tim Pausinger did a brilliant job.
