  1. Here is the newest addition to my collection by Chad Koeplinger. He was amazingly fast! Only took about 1 hour start to finish and it is bigger than my hand.

  5. Got it done on Friday - very happy! Scott M at Tattoo Paradise in DC did it. He is moving to Florida, which makes me sad. He's great! He got these done faster than I anticipated, and the healing seems to be going well so far. Please forgive the lines from my sports bra in the picture - I'll be wearing racerbacks for a few more days, haha :p

  7. Bed Bath and Beyond. $19.99 for a package of 4! Sign up for their emails and text messages to get 20% off coupons and save even more. My additional "trick" is that they are not hung up on a conventional hook that goes into the wall. Rather, I bought some mounting tape (think velcro) and hung them up in that manner. Easier to align and cleaner looking as well. Bonus is the mounting tape is strong but if you change your mind, it won't damage your walls or the paint and comes off easily.

    Friday the 13th...

http://tattooforrest.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/20130714-162850.jpg I don't know if this is going to work (never posted a link like this before) but I just got this from Forrest Cavacco's blog and thought I'd post for the LST community. I'll be in Brooklyn, NY that weekend, but for folks who'll be in Dallas, have a great Friday the 13th weekend!

  15. Do you take ritalin? I know two brothers with ADD who didn't start taking ritalin until they were adults. They swear by it--helps them calm their minds, get organized, etc. Of course...back in the day they shared it with me. Had the opposite effect haha. Those days are over. Good times.

  19. True enough. I hate when people say "but tattoo artists HATE it!!" about something. Here's something: Some tattooers are douchebags. Them being a tattooer, even a GOOD tattooer, doesn't make them right or profound. It makes them another asshole with an opinion and there's nothing special or unique about having one of those. If you think you're a collector, you probably are. It's a way to describe what you do- collect tattoos from people you dig. I collect toys. I collect dvds. I have a lot of passion when it comes to my collections; I think about which swatches to buy, know when some obscure film is going to be released on dvd, read articles about toy production. I guess if you looked at it like that, I collect tattoos too. I find myself interested in the whole culture of it, not just "gettin' a new tat'. Verdict: It's not bad to be called a collector/call yourself a collector. It's not bad to not WANT to be called a collector/call yourself a collector.

After admiring her work on a friend (@tacitapproval), I really wanted a piece by Mina Aoki at Fun City, NYC. She did this Lady Head for me yesterday, and I'm very happy with it; it's my first full-color tattoo, my first piece of American traditional work, and my first time at Fun City. I'm sure I'll be back for more. I'll post healed pics in a few weeks.

Thanks @Duffa I love all your new additions! The subject of my Garver tattoo is called a Harpy Harpy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It's from greek mythology, and I think it's a little weird that it isn't seen more often in tattooing. Who doesn't like an eagle with tits? @hogg Getting tattooed by tebori was a real treat and something I've been looking forward to for a long time. Since this was my first tebori experience I don't really have any pain reference, but it wasn't too bad. Less painful than by machine, but slower. Horimasa was super friendly, humble and just an all round great guy. Such a great experience. We actually got it done in Marco Serio's studio since Horimasa was waiting for his own place to get greenlit by the health department. Unfortunately Marco was abroad, but I got to stare at his awesome stencils which were hanging all over the wall while I was getting tattooed :)

  33. Our daughter told us we couldn't get the one with the skull on it. "No skulls!", she announced. We got it anyway. Bad parents. If it really freaks her out, we may have to put it aside for a bit until she grows out of this phase. @DJDeepFried was all, "But look honey, it's smiling, it's not scary, it's a cute happy skull!" Still no dice.

  34. The Tattoo Elite International ones are about 4x5 but on 8x10 paper (or something like that) so no matting necessary! Stick them in a frame and you're good. We just got the second set of prints yesterday.. @Pugilist sent them to a friend in NYC because they don't ship internationally and she came up for a visit and brought them along...so now we're only missing one of the Tattoo Elite International prints. Going to get this apartment painted and then have a Horitomo cat wall of our own.

  35. Thanks @ironchef & @Lance! I was super bummed I missed out on the first set of four -- mostly because I loved the tebori cat one -- but I wouldn't have thought to look on Tattoo Elite International. @TrixieFaux & I just picked up those top three -- and I think I like those the best! For sure we want to get them framed & matted all classy-like like how you have 'em.

Thanks, @Duffa. I couldn't have been farther off! @Iwar, I got tattooed by Horimasa a few years back. Super nice guy, huh? And his tebori wasn't really painful at all. I looooove that hannya!

  39. Good morning LST!!! Got back from my Japan trip a week ago but have worked at least 12hrs every day since and have had some family dramas. Did get a promotion though which has been more of a curse than anything lol. But here are 2 little mementos I got while over there and I will post my back in the backpiece thread. I am spewing I didn't make it to Tokyo so hopefully @CaptCanada will still be keen to catch up next time round. I'll do a travel thread when I finally get a day off which will hopefully be Friday! Anyways, lets look at some tattoos ;) First one is what I got from Hiro (Formerly at The CatClaw Tattoo-Z) at his new shop "Swallows Nest Design Work". I was his first international customer lol. Special little Daruma with an inside joke in Japanese  (who'll be the first to figure it out?) Got this on my last night from Horinao at The Catclaw. He had no other customers and I thought why not... well, that and they accepted credit cards which I'd never noticed until then. Quick little Hyottoko - - - Updated - - - Holy large photos Batman! Sorry guys!!

Me and my buddy J went and visited Ben Grillo yesterday @ Power Tattoo... Ben added another little something to my buddy's face, he's already tattooed both of his cheeks so doing his forehead wasn't an issue I was surprised how quick it went, maybe slightly longer than 2 hours? I'm not totally sure, time goes pretty fast over there, Ben's always a cool dude to hang out with. Here's the finished product...

  42. I agree that there's a pretty significant difference, but for some people just the idea of needles can trigger a panic attack. a woman recently fainted at the shop where i work, not because she was getting tattooed, but because she was watching her friend get tattooed. she's lucky she didn't get a concussion falling and hitting her head on the floor! phobias are irrational, so even if it doesn't make sense to us, it could be terrifying to someone else.

  44. I finally got my ship + lion on Friday. I put this picture in my post about the design, but I will put it here too because it will probably be my last opportunity to contribute to this thread for a little while. I totally love these, but I am going to give myself some time to get used to having such plainly visible tattoos (compared to my other, well-hidden ones) before I start thinking about getting anything else. This was a big step for me, haha! Scott M (I can never remember how to spell his last name) at Tattoo Paradise in DC did these for me. He is great, and he did my elephant, too, so I was very sad when he told me he was moving to FL.
