    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Me and my buddy J went and visited Ben Grillo yesterday @ Power Tattoo... Ben added another little something to my buddy's face, he's already tattooed both of his cheeks so doing his forehead wasn't an issue I was surprised how quick it went, maybe slightly longer than 2 hours? I'm not totally sure, time goes pretty fast over there, Ben's always a cool dude to hang out with. Here's the finished product...

  3. Well NYC has a stupid amount of good artists, some are memebers on LST! I would recommend the following shops: Thicker than Water Daredevil NY Adorned Invisible NYC All the shops I feel have killer artists that are pretty diverse and could nail pretty much any tattoo.

  9. When I was in Vegas for the APP Conference, my old friend Ron Garza and I decided to get matching 'bro-tats' courtesy of his wife Nakota who tattoos out of Outer Limits. We've known each other since 1995 and have an amazing surreal friendship. Earlier this year one of our good friends (who goes back to 95 with us as well) killed himself, so we decided on Skulls in Party Hats. Little two minute dealies to commemorate our friendship. The "party tats" label was tongue in cheek.

  13. Got questions about your tattoo with regards to aftercare or possible issues? If so, this is the thread for you! Questions surrounding your new tattoo are common, and we have covered several questions you might have. Think of this thread as your one-stop-shop for all the questions you're dying to ask. In other words, before you start a thread, please read the following. These topics have come up several times in the past, and this will probably answer any questions you might have. FAQ Q: Is my tattoo infected? A: While tattoo infections are fairly rare, strangers on the internet are not the people to ask. If you're wondering if it is infected, it would be best to ask the tattooer who applied the tattoo. They have all types of knowledge about the various stages of a healing tattoo and would be glad to help you. You are their customer. If it looks really terrible or is very painful, consult a physician. Q: What is the best aftercare for my new tattoo? A: There are a variety of effective aftercare methods. There is no "one size fits all" approach, but there are some good guidelines that have been discussed in previous threads here on LST. The best person to get aftercare advice from is from the artist who did the tattoo. (Are you starting to see a pattern here?) Q: Can I go swimming (or engage in other activities) with my new tattoo? A: While everyone has their own opinion about this topic, the way to think about it is this: you have a large, fresh wound that you really, really want to take very good care of. (Hell, you paid for it!) It would be in your best interest to keep it free from water, sweat or contact with not-so-clean areas (like gym equipment). Q: Is my tattoo healed yet? How long does it take to heal? A: This comes back to what was said before: everyone's body reacts differently. There is no "one size fits all" description for what a healing tattoo looks like or how long it takes. Even on the same person, the area of the body can effect how long it takes to heal. For example, tattoos on the lower leg often take longer to heal than tattoos on the upper arm, but even this varies from person to person. That being said, there are some loose guidelines to follow to understand how the healing process is going. Generally, it goes like this: after leaving the shop, your tattoo might be swollen, red, and oozing plasma/lymph/ink. After this phase, you'll transition into the peeling/scabbing phase. The area can become very itchy and it might look like you have sunburn on your tattoo. After this, the tattoo can look faded or glazed over. It may even have a "waxy" look to it. This is normal. Eventually, the tattoo will settle and look pretty good. The length of time from "fresh" to "looking good" can take anywhere from two weeks to a few months. Again, this depends on several factors, including diet, lifestyle, area of application, and too many others to list here. Q: Can I and/or should I put sunscreen on my tattoo? A: After a few days, it should be OK to put sunscreen on your tattoo. During the healing period, you should really try your hardest to keep it covered and out of the sun. Afterward, try and apply high SPF sunscreen to your tattoo as sun can quickly fade the original image. Q: Am I having an allergic reaction to the ink? A: If you have any allergies, it would be in your interest before you get tattooed to tell your artist. Having said that, most people are not going to have a reaction. As I've seen here on LST and in my travels, people sometimes attribute a rough session/swelling on their first or second tattoo with an allergic reaction. Repeat: when in doubt, see your tattoo artist or your doctor. 22. These are in the “General Tattoo Discussion” sub forum “This is where you should post general tattoo topics that don't fit into any of the specific categories below.” So these are all in the correct forum ? (no slam intended to these members, it’s just an example) http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4209-misspelled-words.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4144-clare-clarity-has-surgery-hand-selling-paintings-pay-bills.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4249-bad-suggestion.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4092-richard-stell-could-use-your-help.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4132-la-clothing-company-ripping-off-dringenberg-name.html . so where were your internet police replies about those ? and yes,for the most part this entire forum is “tattoo Related” ,erh, well, except for these 3 !?!?!??! . in “random Crap” which per the rules are posted above(I have asked a mod here if off topic non tattoo related threads are allowed in that forum,& the answer was yes) . in 3 weeks I have posted 6 threads,so divide 21 days by 6 threads ! WOW! Ya,that’s WAY too many threads. in a month ! I have only posted 13 threads TOTAL ! and from what I can tell, since no mods have told me to stop,I have placed them in the correct forums,(unlike the at least 5 mentioned above have done) So what’s your problem with me ? it seems you are the only one bothered by it. Looking back at most of your replies, IMO you are the one that is wasting forum space by telling everyone else what to and what not to do ! I had a day to think about this forum & the mostly nice people here, so I said to myself *self ! why should one bent outa shape member ruin my experience here?* & so self answered, it shouldn’t ! and well,if you don't like what I do here, then report me to a moderator or just leave me alone. and yes,EACH of my adventures deserves it's own thread ! if they bother you, then DON'T READ THEM ! oh ya ! one more thing,if this reply pisses you off, then report it to the mods.

    Seattle Shop Tour

Yeah Matt rules. I wish I would have gotten tattooed in the shop but my convention experience with him was equally as pleasant. Just walked up, said I want a spider and he said cool and drew it on. Also there is only about 4-5 colors in mine as well, super simple yet super fancy. Good balance, good dude.

  27. In my opinion I think we as non-tattooers really don't have all to much to say in this area. While yes we are getting the tattoos, all the backend stuff like references, inspiration, etc are not understood by us. We just don't do it. I treat it like people treat me at my job in computers. They don't ask me how I did everything, they just expect some magic and a positive outcome. Also since I like to stick to classic imagery I know that my tattoos will end up looking pretty damn close to a million other tattoos. I mean really how many skull+snake tattoos do you think have been done before mine, and how many will be done after. While sure I might be a bit bummed out if I saw an exact replica of mine on someone else, whatever, I still got mine!

    Upcoming Tattoos

Stopped by Tattoo Paradise last night to chat with Nikki about a lady head idea. I explained it, and she was basically like, "I would totally crush that." I love it when the artist is just as excited about an idea as you are! Now I just have to decide when to get it (and where to put it). I'm moving apartments next month, so I'd like to get that over with first, then go in to get it.

    Post-tattoo blues anyone?

Not to minimise what you're going through, but you've only had the tattoo for a couple of weeks so give it some time. When it comes down to it, by getting tattooed you're doing a pretty heavy thing by permanently altering the appearance of your body, your perception of yourself, people's perception of you, you're maybe coming up against taboos...it's a lot to take on, and I don't think you can really prepare yourself for it beforehand. I think it's okay to have complicated feelings towards your tattoos. But really, give it some time, and if you decide that you really can't stand being tattooed, there's a lot of really great stuff here about tattoo removal.

  32. I got this about 1½ month ago at Copenhagen Ink Festival :) It's on the upper side of my forearm. Got tattooed by Suzi Powell from Holdfast Tattoo, Perth, Australia. I got a tattoo by her apprentice when I lived in Perth last year, so had to get one by her as well, now that she was in Denmark.

  36. I really hope that nobody opens the copyright can of worms onto tattooing... imagine all of the published reference images or commercial imagery that's used in tattoos. Even if the suit is between two artists, I feel like it would set a precedent for larger entities to totally shit on the tattoo community.
