  2. Got this a few weeks ago at Electric 13 in Austin from Zach Taylor, who was gracious enough to come in on his day off to accomodate my schedule. Really cool shop, great experience all around. p.s. I apologize for the photo size, but people here like to see detailed photos of tattoos, right??

  3. Everyone deserves to have something nice. In the scheme of things, you have your whole life to do good, this was just one moment when you took some time and resources for yourself. There will be plenty of opportunities in life to help people in need and your tattoo money isn't going to be the deal breaker here. If anything use this a motivation to try to find ways to help people in need in the future or find a way to put money aside to causes that are actually doing good. It's not just about giving people money, it's about giving the right people money who know how to make it work for the people who need it.

  5. I just want to say this here, that Matt Arriola rules. I had a great time getting tattooed, and I think the experience itself was very pleasant and easy going. In my opinion he is doing some of the best traditional work out there, his stuff is not wonky nor is it overdone, he really strikes that perfect balance of being able to do so much with a relatively limited color palette. My tattoo has five colors in it, Black, Red, Yellow, Gold and a little bit of white, that's it and it's perfect no more or no less needed. Also for a guy that has been tattooing in like 5 different countries in two months, I basically only had to wait a week and a half to get tattooed, He didn't want to do a consultation and I didn't want one either, I didn't have to stand in any line, wait three years, win some sort of lottery, bid on anything on ebay, I just emailed him that I wanted one of his spiders. When I walked into the shop, he said, hey" i'm going to draw this on is that cool?" and "I'm going to get kind weird with this" That was the only discussion of design. Everyone has their own thing, but for me I appreciate this kind of experience, and it really is my ideal situation to get tattooed. When the tattoo goes this easy, you don't mind a little bit of a drive and staying in a hotel for a night. Also much thanks to Ernie Gosnell at Lucky Devil South and Mr Wrath and the whole staff at Bulldog Tattoo Parlour in Lacey for the hospitality. If you don't know who these guys are you are missing out.

  6. Nice post, @Pleadco. Seriously. I'm sorry to see Dan go, but we are not in the business of begging members to stay if they say they wanna leave. All of us mods work full-time jobs and several of us have families, so you'll understand if we prioritize certain things. @Delicious, Dan did post in the Random Crap forum, a subset of the Off-Topic forum. If he had posted this in the General Tattoo Discussion forum, well, that's one thing, but I think you were a little out of line. I'm not defending his response to you, but I can see how he might have been put off by your comments. It says a lot about LST that flare-ups like this are as rare as they are, so please miss me with any potential "LST ain't what it used to be" threads. I'm proud to be a part of this place, and I thank all of you for helping to make it what it is. Except for Bubbleberry. Fuck that guy.

  8. You are a nice guy Dan, and it's awesome that you feel comfortable sharing your life with relative strangers. I love to meet new folks (especially those with common interests), hear about their lives, and talk about whatever. It does seem though, and I'm sure that much of your recent trials are contributing to this, that you are an exposed nerve. One that experiences some emotional extremes without much of a buffer in between either the good or the bad stuff. You already know this, but dealing with hundreds of strangers, especially on the internet will inevitably strike that nerve from time to time. I would recommend not taking everything to heart and relax, whilst at the same time hopefully others will have that same patience when people get excited to share their lives and put themselves out on a limb (especially on the random crap forum, har). These forums are a great resource for education, and even though that is the ultimate goal (at least to my limited understanding, being a F.N.G), a little frivolity can be healthy. That is until the My Little Pony spam begins, then heads will roll. My .02, sorry if I'm over-stepping. Lets all go out for drinks, have a good times, and discuss our next tattoos. Peace!

  9. I figured I'd post a couple of in progress pics of my arm/chest. Martin Lacasse at Olde City. All the linework in about 3.5 hours. Sorry for the lousy phone pics. It's based on the Yoshitoshi print attached. The lower samurai is pretty closely referenced, but the severed head on his waist in the print is on the chest panel and he went nuts with the ghost/shadow samurai on the top half of my arm. One session of shading done so far, another in 3 weeks. -Update- Little better photo of the top w/ shading.

  10. Haven't been on in a few days, just finding this thread as an outside observer, I just think this was a communication breakdown. I don't disagree with Delicious about the idea in general, as we have had issues in the past with people starting threads. I think if the idea was approached more from a positive aspect if might have been received better. If instead of being critical about the amount of threads started, someone just said, hey you have so many cool, weird, or interesting stories, you should have a blog so people can find them all and subscribe, that could have been received better. That and we really just have to choose our battles if we don't want to be like other forums, promote a civil environment, pretend like we are all roommates or something . That being said, the interenet has become a sea of negativity and this place remains relatively positive.

  12. I can say I understand a bit from time to time about the kinda shock about being tattooed. This only really happened recently when I looked down at my legs at realized "holy shit that is mostly tattoos...and I got appointments booked out till 2014". Then came me visiting my extended family over the weekend and not wearing long sleeves and jeans. Let's just say I got some really shitty responses and left early. (That by the way was the first negitive reaction I have ever received at least to my face). I really like what I got and have been looking forward to getting this stuff done since I was 12 and marker-ing in tattoos on myself. The only thing I know I will regret will be when I run out of space and when a great artist comes up and I don't have room for whatever it is I want. This especially effects me because I like HUGE tattoos (it seems I do limbs or most of a limb at a time). I've talked to a bunch of people older and wiser than me. 99% of the time the biggest regrets was NOT doing something.

  13. First, I want to thank Hogg for his response - measured and appropriate. Secondly, I want to agree with his point that this sort of thing happens so infrequently here is a testament to the quality of people on this forum. I do want to highlight how important it is that moderators be allowed to do their job. Self-appointed moderators are a threat to the free and open discussion of ideas and topics. David Flores makes the very important point that if people feel they must address a particular post and do not wish to bring it to the attention of the actual mods, they should be very careful how they frame their criticism. David's suggestion of how to handle this particular incident strikes me as a perfect model of how this could have been handled. As participants on these forums we are self-policing to a certain degree, but I think we should be careful about allowing self-appointed moderators too much latitude. I hope Dan comes back, but I can understand why he was so frustrated.

  14. One of the tattoos from the London Trip... photo and tattoo by Stefano C. at Frith Street. Great experience, amazing tattoo, and I got to go back three days later for matching tattoos with my fiancee from Jordan Teear. I'll have photos of those and a full shot of this one when I get home this weekend. p.s.- Thanks to their staff for being patient while I mulled over which shirts I was going to bring back for the homies... as well as telling me how to find Honest Burger. It was too good.

  24. What a precious lady. I would love to get tattooed by her. So much respect, I mean to tattoo for the vast majority of your lifespan is a pretty huge thing. Her arms are so beautiful, too! I really love (real) tribal tattoos, they're so impacting. Awesome video, thank you for sharing. I'm going to see if I can find any more articles or documentation on her.

  28. Like I stated before ALL money nowadays is "virtual" to a sense. Without gold backing money, it is essentially worth what people are willing to trade for it. Technically the USD could become as worthless as the Deutsche Mark or the Zibabwean Dollar. I also think you were referring to the Deutsche Mark post-WWI not WWII. The hyperinflation in Germany was one of the catalysts for WWII Hyperinflation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

@RScott He says he is good at pushing people and he's right. He was going to double up on a lot of my lines during the butt session but I couldn't take anymore. It's no fun when you make the decision that you can't handle anymore, but then you hold for just a little longer, and it turns in to way more time. Your leg sure is a beaut.

  32. It was a crazy day all around, Seattle really kicked my ass. In hindsight maybe would have been better to book earlier appt, but then I probably wouldn't have got to hang out with Ernie, that dude is such a character and his collection is amazing. Matt and the shop was super busy, but we had a good chat and a few laughs and yeah I love the tattoo. Wrath's place was amazing too, that guy paints so nice, and I guess having a printing company helps as well. It really is such a small community, it's crazy sometimes.

For father's day, my wife gave me a copy of The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt. As it says on the front cover, "If Cormac McCarthy had a sense of humor, he might have concocted a story like Patrick deWitt's bloody, darkly funny western." I love it, and i think that @dcostello and @Jake might, too.

I'm on book 3 of the Malazan book of the fallen, by Steven Erickson. It's amazing, highly recommend to anyone looking for a series after they're done with a song of fire and ice. The first book is a bit of a struggle haha, but if you can get through it it's so worth it!

  43. I went to Ed Hardy's book signing Friday night after work, but I had an hour or so to kill beforehand, so I stopped by Tattoo City on the way. Mary Joy, Jen Lee and Kahlil were there, and Mary was kind enough to offer me a shop tour. I got tattooed there once about 10 years ago, but I didn't get a guided tour of all the incredible original flash (including OGs by Sailor Jerry, Bert Grimm, and several Hardy sheets, some of which were signed "Ed Talbott"). We walked over to the signing, which was great. I got a book, which Ed graciously signed, then talked for a while with the always affable Doug Hardy and saw Ross Jones, Bill and Junii Salmon, Dr. Claw, and Shad (Horitskukikage), who was in town visiting the Diamond Club. Doug and Mary pointed out various people in attendance, including V. Vale (who published the Modern Primitives book), a guy who has a mid-70s backpiece from Ed, and Ron Nagle, a ceramics artist who also did all the sound effects for The Exorcist. So yeah. That's an awesome thing I did (although I was the least awesome aspect of it).

Go to the Tattoo Emporium, and Lucky Devil South. Funny I will be doing the same tour next monday before getting tattooed at Liberty. I am not going to these other shops to get tattooed, but not ruling it out either, they just are the most interesting shops in terms of history and personality to me.
