  2. Got this a few weeks ago at Electric 13 in Austin from Zach Taylor, who was gracious enough to come in on his day off to accomodate my schedule. Really cool shop, great experience all around. p.s. I apologize for the photo size, but people here like to see detailed photos of tattoos, right??

  3. Everyone deserves to have something nice. In the scheme of things, you have your whole life to do good, this was just one moment when you took some time and resources for yourself. There will be plenty of opportunities in life to help people in need and your tattoo money isn't going to be the deal breaker here. If anything use this a motivation to try to find ways to help people in need in the future or find a way to put money aside to causes that are actually doing good. It's not just about giving people money, it's about giving the right people money who know how to make it work for the people who need it.

  5. I just want to say this here, that Matt Arriola rules. I had a great time getting tattooed, and I think the experience itself was very pleasant and easy going. In my opinion he is doing some of the best traditional work out there, his stuff is not wonky nor is it overdone, he really strikes that perfect balance of being able to do so much with a relatively limited color palette. My tattoo has five colors in it, Black, Red, Yellow, Gold and a little bit of white, that's it and it's perfect no more or no less needed. Also for a guy that has been tattooing in like 5 different countries in two months, I basically only had to wait a week and a half to get tattooed, He didn't want to do a consultation and I didn't want one either, I didn't have to stand in any line, wait three years, win some sort of lottery, bid on anything on ebay, I just emailed him that I wanted one of his spiders. When I walked into the shop, he said, hey" i'm going to draw this on is that cool?" and "I'm going to get kind weird with this" That was the only discussion of design. Everyone has their own thing, but for me I appreciate this kind of experience, and it really is my ideal situation to get tattooed. When the tattoo goes this easy, you don't mind a little bit of a drive and staying in a hotel for a night. Also much thanks to Ernie Gosnell at Lucky Devil South and Mr Wrath and the whole staff at Bulldog Tattoo Parlour in Lacey for the hospitality. If you don't know who these guys are you are missing out.

  6. Nice post, @Pleadco. Seriously. I'm sorry to see Dan go, but we are not in the business of begging members to stay if they say they wanna leave. All of us mods work full-time jobs and several of us have families, so you'll understand if we prioritize certain things. @Delicious, Dan did post in the Random Crap forum, a subset of the Off-Topic forum. If he had posted this in the General Tattoo Discussion forum, well, that's one thing, but I think you were a little out of line. I'm not defending his response to you, but I can see how he might have been put off by your comments. It says a lot about LST that flare-ups like this are as rare as they are, so please miss me with any potential "LST ain't what it used to be" threads. I'm proud to be a part of this place, and I thank all of you for helping to make it what it is. Except for Bubbleberry. Fuck that guy.

  8. You are a nice guy Dan, and it's awesome that you feel comfortable sharing your life with relative strangers. I love to meet new folks (especially those with common interests), hear about their lives, and talk about whatever. It does seem though, and I'm sure that much of your recent trials are contributing to this, that you are an exposed nerve. One that experiences some emotional extremes without much of a buffer in between either the good or the bad stuff. You already know this, but dealing with hundreds of strangers, especially on the internet will inevitably strike that nerve from time to time. I would recommend not taking everything to heart and relax, whilst at the same time hopefully others will have that same patience when people get excited to share their lives and put themselves out on a limb (especially on the random crap forum, har). These forums are a great resource for education, and even though that is the ultimate goal (at least to my limited understanding, being a F.N.G), a little frivolity can be healthy. That is until the My Little Pony spam begins, then heads will roll. My .02, sorry if I'm over-stepping. Lets all go out for drinks, have a good times, and discuss our next tattoos. Peace!

  9. I figured I'd post a couple of in progress pics of my arm/chest. Martin Lacasse at Olde City. All the linework in about 3.5 hours. Sorry for the lousy phone pics. It's based on the Yoshitoshi print attached. The lower samurai is pretty closely referenced, but the severed head on his waist in the print is on the chest panel and he went nuts with the ghost/shadow samurai on the top half of my arm. One session of shading done so far, another in 3 weeks. -Update- Little better photo of the top w/ shading.

  10. Haven't been on in a few days, just finding this thread as an outside observer, I just think this was a communication breakdown. I don't disagree with Delicious about the idea in general, as we have had issues in the past with people starting threads. I think if the idea was approached more from a positive aspect if might have been received better. If instead of being critical about the amount of threads started, someone just said, hey you have so many cool, weird, or interesting stories, you should have a blog so people can find them all and subscribe, that could have been received better. That and we really just have to choose our battles if we don't want to be like other forums, promote a civil environment, pretend like we are all roommates or something . That being said, the interenet has become a sea of negativity and this place remains relatively positive.

  12. I can say I understand a bit from time to time about the kinda shock about being tattooed. This only really happened recently when I looked down at my legs at realized "holy shit that is mostly tattoos...and I got appointments booked out till 2014". Then came me visiting my extended family over the weekend and not wearing long sleeves and jeans. Let's just say I got some really shitty responses and left early. (That by the way was the first negitive reaction I have ever received at least to my face). I really like what I got and have been looking forward to getting this stuff done since I was 12 and marker-ing in tattoos on myself. The only thing I know I will regret will be when I run out of space and when a great artist comes up and I don't have room for whatever it is I want. This especially effects me because I like HUGE tattoos (it seems I do limbs or most of a limb at a time). I've talked to a bunch of people older and wiser than me. 99% of the time the biggest regrets was NOT doing something.

  13. First, I want to thank Hogg for his response - measured and appropriate. Secondly, I want to agree with his point that this sort of thing happens so infrequently here is a testament to the quality of people on this forum. I do want to highlight how important it is that moderators be allowed to do their job. Self-appointed moderators are a threat to the free and open discussion of ideas and topics. David Flores makes the very important point that if people feel they must address a particular post and do not wish to bring it to the attention of the actual mods, they should be very careful how they frame their criticism. David's suggestion of how to handle this particular incident strikes me as a perfect model of how this could have been handled. As participants on these forums we are self-policing to a certain degree, but I think we should be careful about allowing self-appointed moderators too much latitude. I hope Dan comes back, but I can understand why he was so frustrated.

  14. One of the tattoos from the London Trip... photo and tattoo by Stefano C. at Frith Street. Great experience, amazing tattoo, and I got to go back three days later for matching tattoos with my fiancee from Jordan Teear. I'll have photos of those and a full shot of this one when I get home this weekend. p.s.- Thanks to their staff for being patient while I mulled over which shirts I was going to bring back for the homies... as well as telling me how to find Honest Burger. It was too good.

  27. Got questions about your tattoo with regards to aftercare or possible issues? If so, this is the thread for you! Questions surrounding your new tattoo are common, and we have covered several questions you might have. Think of this thread as your one-stop-shop for all the questions you're dying to ask. In other words, before you start a thread, please read the following. These topics have come up several times in the past, and this will probably answer any questions you might have. FAQ Q: Is my tattoo infected? A: While tattoo infections are fairly rare, strangers on the internet are not the people to ask. If you're wondering if it is infected, it would be best to ask the tattooer who applied the tattoo. They have all types of knowledge about the various stages of a healing tattoo and would be glad to help you. You are their customer. If it looks really terrible or is very painful, consult a physician. Q: What is the best aftercare for my new tattoo? A: There are a variety of effective aftercare methods. There is no "one size fits all" approach, but there are some good guidelines that have been discussed in previous threads here on LST. The best person to get aftercare advice from is from the artist who did the tattoo. (Are you starting to see a pattern here?) Q: Can I go swimming (or engage in other activities) with my new tattoo? A: While everyone has their own opinion about this topic, the way to think about it is this: you have a large, fresh wound that you really, really want to take very good care of. (Hell, you paid for it!) It would be in your best interest to keep it free from water, sweat or contact with not-so-clean areas (like gym equipment). Q: Is my tattoo healed yet? How long does it take to heal? A: This comes back to what was said before: everyone's body reacts differently. There is no "one size fits all" description for what a healing tattoo looks like or how long it takes. Even on the same person, the area of the body can effect how long it takes to heal. For example, tattoos on the lower leg often take longer to heal than tattoos on the upper arm, but even this varies from person to person. That being said, there are some loose guidelines to follow to understand how the healing process is going. Generally, it goes like this: after leaving the shop, your tattoo might be swollen, red, and oozing plasma/lymph/ink. After this phase, you'll transition into the peeling/scabbing phase. The area can become very itchy and it might look like you have sunburn on your tattoo. After this, the tattoo can look faded or glazed over. It may even have a "waxy" look to it. This is normal. Eventually, the tattoo will settle and look pretty good. The length of time from "fresh" to "looking good" can take anywhere from two weeks to a few months. Again, this depends on several factors, including diet, lifestyle, area of application, and too many others to list here. Q: Can I and/or should I put sunscreen on my tattoo? A: After a few days, it should be OK to put sunscreen on your tattoo. During the healing period, you should really try your hardest to keep it covered and out of the sun. Afterward, try and apply high SPF sunscreen to your tattoo as sun can quickly fade the original image. Q: Am I having an allergic reaction to the ink? A: If you have any allergies, it would be in your interest before you get tattooed to tell your artist. Having said that, most people are not going to have a reaction. As I've seen here on LST and in my travels, people sometimes attribute a rough session/swelling on their first or second tattoo with an allergic reaction. Repeat: when in doubt, see your tattoo artist or your doctor. 30. If you only feel like it was a mistake because of the money you spent on it, don't. If you could afford to get it, then why should you worry? If you feel like donating to the homeless, thats great, but you should be able to, as a middle class person, get the things you want for yourself, without feeling like the money should have been donated to the poor. If you think about it, you just made a long term investment. You now have a possession that cannot be taken away from you, that won't need to be replaced, that you can't possibly lose, and that no one can break.

I'm not a fan of aquaphor, on large tattoos its annoying. I just dry heal with some lotion after a week of healing. No problems no worries

For father's day, my wife gave me a copy of The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt. As it says on the front cover, "If Cormac McCarthy had a sense of humor, he might have concocted a story like Patrick deWitt's bloody, darkly funny western." I love it, and i think that @dcostello and @Jake might, too.
