  3. I think my ridiculous run of tattooing is at an end. After months and months of getting work done, I am getting very close to my wedding and my attention must surely turn towards this most important day. My love would like very much if I wasn't taped up, or wounded, or healing as we head into the home stretch. I am certain she is right. So, I had a couple of little filler tattoos done to largely finish up my right arm sleeve. Look for the dice and the flower above them. It has been a great experience, made all the better by being able to share my tattooing with the great folks here at LST. But, come August, work begins on my collar.

  5. I got some more work on my left leg, pics when it's healed, the thing is I do photography for fun and I carry my camera with me 24/7,I document my life,so anyway, this is a pretty cool perspective IMO. this was shot with my Canon 50D & Sigma 10-20mm Super wide angle lens,(so there is an intended lens distortion)I love this lens for that reason, the light from the afternoon sun in the window made for crappy shooting conditions,so I did the best I could with all the contrast. .

  7. Hey! quick intro - 30 some-odd mom to 2 preteen girls in the Boston area... I have a few mediocre tattoos which, though I do like them, could use a bit of help. I think that only serves to emphasize how much I want go to the next level for my next (and biggest, and probably final) tattoo... I'm planning a rib tattoo...and really want it to be awesome. I'm willing to get on whatever waitlist necessary, but it seems that the really sought after artists have to think the idea is fun and interesting to even consider taking on a new customer. Assuming I'm willing to travel for this tattoo, how do I go about finding the right tattooist to create this for me? I'm pretty open. The only requirement is that it incorporates ivy (since I have ivy on my inner bicep that I placed specifically so that it could visually be carried onto my ribcage when my arm is down) I love the idea of clockwork/steampunk/something old and metal and hard that the ivy can wrap around, but since I just want it to look cool and doesn't have to *mean* anything, I'm open to suggestion. So glad to be here! Awesome amounts of information...looking forward to becoming part of the community

  10. The answer to this question is, of course, "it depends on your skin tone" which leads to "talk to an artist". "Talk to an artist" is usually a good suggestion. But to add some more interesting content, here are a few of mine to see how some color works on my skin: I'm on the lighter side, though, so again, exact skin tone will be key.

  11. I got to hang with Marcus for a bit today, he said that the Japan episode was all set to air until they figured out that the Japanese Translation was all wrong. They're going back in and correcting it and he hopes it'll be finished around June 23. Even more exciting is who he plans to film with next, I'll give a hint, they discussed it and this person agreed to do it while at the Paris convention...

    Book tattoo

I have a tattoo that is probably fairly similar to what you're thinking of: This is Seth Wood's interpretation of the Necronomicon and it goes from my shoulder to about an inch or so above my elbow. He initially did it without the illustrations in the book, but when I was at the shop at a later date he saw it and said that it needed that little bit extra so we booked that and he put those in. I wanted the 20-sided die, the other things were his idea and freehanded in. I am especially stoked on the tiny little Baphomet. It could be covered by a quarter, total fine line madness there. Because they're so detailed, I'm not sure how well the book illustrations will age, but they're a little bonus and even when they fade and blur together they aren't going to greatly change the integrity of the tattoo. So yeah, it can be totally workable though I think you'd need to find the right artist to be able to pull it off properly.

    Can't Decide!!!

LOVE both ideas. I agree with telling her both and letting her run with whatever. When I have a pretty vague idea, I am also a fan of just giving some helpful adjectives like you've done above - like you want her to feel tough and strong - without necessarily worrying about the details since I don't have them in my head clearly, because maybe she'll come up with something that captures what you want that you would never have thought of!

  29. I agree with a lot of this, and a lot of what I find uninteresting with everybody trying to do this "style" now is that it becomes too much about putting a certain technique up on a pedestal instead of using that technique, and many others besides, to create a powerful tattoo. It's the same thing with these guys I see on Instagram who are all about doing super whipshaded traditional. Technique is there to serve the art, not the other way around. And that said, you'll never get tattooed by somebody if you don't ask them because they "seem" busy.

It's hard to get a good picture because of my bulbous glutes. Another session down with Dana and I am so happy. The experience was pretty damn unique. My right side was done first, sometimes it felt light just like he was running a fine tip pen down the back of my leg, barely any pain at all. The butt crack however. Holy bejesus. It sapped my stamina big time trying so hard to not involuntarily flinch. By the time he got to the left side, I was done. Luckily he was fast as hell once we switched sides and it was done in no time at all. It was a real quick 3 hour session. Several flaming asshole jokes were made.

    Can't Decide!!!

Both of your ideas sound pretty killer... I think there is strength in femininity so, nothing wrong with flowers, etc. in my opinion. But wolves are amazing and beautiful sooooo...yeah, I'm not much help. I would go w/what you said--tell Rose your ideas and let her do the rest, she is amazing, your tattoo will be amazing. Can't wait to see it. Btw...I'm battling some of this type of indecision of my own and considering posting about it here, too...but I'll mull it over a little more first.

    Looking for advice

In answer to your question, here's how it works: a) Find a tattoo artist you like. You may have to wait. Do not let this deter you. Don't go bargain shopping. Use the time to save your money. I cannon emphasize this last point enough. b) Go in for a consultation. This is where you show him/her your ideas, schedule your tattoo session(s), and probably put down a deposit (often equal to one hour of work). c) He she will draw it up for you. This part is "free" -- meaning most tattoo artists charge by the hour starting when needle hits flesh, but sometimes by the piece. It is not rude to ask an artist his/her rates. It is rude to haggle. d) On the day of your appointment (but sometimes before), he/she will show you the design he/she drew up. If you selected well, chances are you will be delighted. You can ask for a few tweaks -- placement, size, etc., but the rule of thumb is that your artist knows best. When everybody's happy, he/she makes the stencil, puts it on your body, and starts inkin'. Hope this helps. Update: Oh, yeah -- I forgot. e) Tip well. Basically, the answer to any other question you could possibly have is embedded somewhere in the wisdom of this board. Look around -- and welcome.

  34. He doesn't really do the traditional system. His style is 45 minute sessions, but in normal cases most horishi do tattoos in 2-3 hour blocks. But for him if you want more then those initial 45 minutes you need to schedule 2 sessions Ina day and they most likely wont be back to back.

  35. I feel that every tattoo I do should be original ,I understand reference and influence from other artist is important, but just slapping down the exact same think , its not for me flattery is the the highest for of compliment however plagiarism sucks and shows that you don"t have much to offer to the art world as a whole!!

  37. I did go through with it, and luckily the majority of it wasn't too bad. The area around my crack was rough, but everything else was normal wear and tear with the occasional, "Why do you hate me?" line.

  39. I have 11 appointments booked between February 2015 and December 2015. If I average 7 hours an appointment that is 77 hours and I should be mostly done but if I need more appointments I was told that clients with in-progress work will get priority for the 2016 booking.

    How about an art show?

Y'all may have seen this stained glass piece I've been working on for a few weeks on the Instagrams: Brokeback lady skull based on Mike Fite's banner/bizcard as a gift for him from myself and a good buddy of his. I have one of his variations on it on my thing. Waiting on the wood framing stock to come in so I can ship it off to him. Doing the piece was a big feat for me and I'm super happy how it is coming out. I look forward to doing more adaptations of flash as I grow my personal collection.
